Server Rebuild

Recommended Posts

I am going to rebuild the server. This time I am going to use Linux again. Hopefully this will lead to a stable Minecraft experience. Also, TF2 may benefit from it as well.

Because of this, game night may not happen tonight.

did you back up the world before you reinstalled?

I backed-up everything. From your end, you won't even know I changed things.

-- OS installed (No GUI, gotta go command line commando)

-- MySQL Configured, HLStats Web back up

-- TF2 Installing

tarbombs and install scripts that treat ~ as a literal directory name instead of meaning home folder. Thanks Valve!

Lawl, that's pretty crappy.

Will the game server still work though?  I remember when I set up TF2 on linux it didn't really care what folder I used...Or maybe I am mis-remembering.

Did the TF2 server IP change at all while I was away? Because the last time I checked, I don't think Steam found it.

TF2 installed and works.

Minecraft installed and works.

I just need to get screen set up so they stay running when I close the SSH session.

Game night should happen as planned.

I'm a little peeved at Valve for the tarbomb. That's a huge Linux etiquette fail because 1: it fills the current directory with files and 2: tar just overwrites existing files without asking. Instead of getting a nice SteamCMD folder, steamcmd_linux.tar.gz just asploded in my home directory. Not cool.

rm -f im_tired-of-cleaning-up-your-shit

Also, having to install TF2 twice was no fun, either. C'mon, Valve, ~ means home!

I checked earlier in the evening and TF2 server wasn't able to connect.
