Not the full list. I thought more were going to be listed on the site I was reading, but they only mentioned those 2.

I heard that the Opera Wii Browser being free for that period is only for Japan.

Fristly, I said "SELECTED" because the live blog I was reading only mentioned those two. There are going to be around 20 launch titles.

In the US, Opera will not be free at all. Reggie > Wikipedia.

That's Bull.

Why Opera?

Why not Firefox?

Simple actually. While Firefox is cool and all, Opera was from the beginning designed specifically with mobile and special devices support. It's made (and there are special versions) specifically for unusual systems that have very limited memory, or a strange screen resolution (like the DS and cell phones). I wouldn't worry though, Opera has more features than Firefox, hands down, and it's also more accurate at rendering web pages.

Ultra simple review of browsers is below:

Web Page Rendering (based on Acid 2 compliance):

IE < Firefox < Opera < Safari

Features (based on number and usefulness):

IE < Safari < Firefox < Opera

Uh-oh....

I can see big problems ahead for dial-uppers; I know I'll be complaining a lot.

I can really see that the Wii is going to focus, a lot, on online play, activities, and downloads...something that will be virtually impossible/slow for a dial-upper.

And before someone brings it up: "DSL is cheap now, so there's no excuse to switch" try living where I live, and you'll see, it just DOESN'T exist...and believe me, I've done hours upon hours of research for alternatives too.

I'm slightly disappointed by the price and lack of launch titles...I really don't see the big need to go out and buy this console on day one...I'd rather wait til Christmas, when there will be a few more games out.

Hmm, I thought I heard that the only launch titles currently are Wii Sports, Excite Truck, and Zelda: Twilight Princess.

I thought the "20 launch titles" referred to games that would be coming out within a month of the Wii's release.

perhaps I'm wrong; as a matter of fact, I wouldn't doubt it.

Hey Fox, have you heard of Satelite internet? Direct TV has something like that I think, Direcway. You know back with the SNES in Japan, Nintendo had a satelite download service.

Satelitte internet is no bueno for gaming.

While you get fast downloads, pings are always around 2 seconds, which will seriously lag you in games.

This extra latency is due to the extra distance (into space and back) that the data must travel.

Heh, Well Fox can atleast download extra content for his games, just not play online, yet.

No high speed won't be too much of a problem. Metroid Prime 3 won't even have online play. I don't think Red Steel or Super Mario Galaxy do either. Dial-up users will be able to benefit from just about everything else:

Messages

Weather

News

Opera Browser

You CAN send a phone modem signal through a wireless router. I used dial up for years with little problems (just had to drive to school to do major downloading). Plus, there will be wired internet connectivity for Wii through an extra wire or two.

Yes, as DZ has stated, latency is a huge problem.

Also, satellite service's reliability is far good...it's nothing short of terrible.

Yeah, I know you will be able to take advantage of those things, but depending on how graphically intensive they are, it might take forever.

Either way, I already knew about sharing a 56K connection wirelessly, Dwight; as a matter of fact, I have the current set up in my house (though one PC has to act as a sort of server). I realize I could, in theory, purchase a serial modem and hook it up to a router with a serial port on it, and hook that up to a wireless router, but, that sounds like more trouble that it's worth. There is also the BestData 56K external ethernet modem, but I've heard very bad things about it.

Anyway, sorry to get off topic, I just hate dial-up...a lot.

In the long run though, I can see that thing will be greatly hindered by a 56K connection...doable, but hindered. Just as long as Nintendo doesn't implement a latency or bandwidth requirement, I should be able to participate in *some* Wiivents
