Final boss music

Recommended Posts

Alright so... we all have our favourite video game musics... but at the end of all of those video games, there's typically a final boss, usually with a good series of levels and associated tracks leading up to the final battle. So my question to all of you is:

What is your favourite final-boss track from any game ever?

I'll start us off:

Now... personally, had you asked me this question a few months ago, I probably would've said the Aparoid Queen's track (2), or the final fight over Hiigara in Homeworld 2. However, that all changed when Pikmin 3 dropped this one in my lap:

Post away tiny mortals!

But seriously, my favorite boss music is from Ace Combat 4.  Megalith Agnus Dei

So, you've just spent the last year solving a grisly murder case with your new best friends and, at the end of it all, you find out

that a motherfucking

god is behind it all.

The final battle begins, and this ominous tune starts playing as you fight. It's a hard, grueling battle, and you have to burn through pretty much all of your resources to win (because herp derp Atlus games). Then, you get to the last minute or so of the song.

Nearly 7 minutes of slow, ominous buildup gives way to an orchestral arrangement of the main battle theme that you've grown so accustomed to over the course of the game. It's uplifting, inspiring, and gives me fucking chills every time I hear that transition. This bitch is going the fuck down for fucking with you and your buddies.

That Pikmin one...there's...there's a wraith for a final boss in Pikmin 3? Oh noooooooo the water wraith was my first video game trauma

I'd probably have to say basically all the music in Sovngarde, bossfight and otherwise, in Skyrim.

Streets of Rage on Sega Genesis had a simplistic and yet memorable final boss tune.

The memories of myself and a cousin of mine spending countless hours playing through the game just come flooding back. :-)

noOOOOOOOO

YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND

THE WATER WRAITH AND THE EVIL SAMUS FROM METROID FUSION ARE LITERALLY MY SCARIEST CHILDHOOD MEMORIES *sobs*

content:

I don't know if it counts, but the courtroom music paired with the drama of the final cases in the Ace Attorney series are always pretty gripping too.

The water wraith is terrifying, yes. But Olimar encountered the same creature, in another form in the previous game in the series :P

For some reason it only freaked me out in Pikmin 2? I played both of them but when it first appears in Pikmin 2 with that cutscene and that creepy-ass music and sound effects and you don't know where it is until it bails around the corner and murders all your Pikmin aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah no the flashbacks thE FLASHBACKS

may not be my favorite, but Puppet Ganon Snake from Wind Waker is up there for me, especially since it's burned into my brain because it took me hours to beat that motherfucker

and there's the boss music from Star Fox 64. obligatory, really.

also not really my favorite but notable simply because it's an integral part of my video game PTSD is the boss battle music from Jet Force Gemini. it's all the same for every boss in the game, which is okay because every boss in the game is so incredibly unfairly cruelly difficult that you'll be a married, fully grown adult with a rewarding career and a nice house with a low mortgage payment and a loving family and you'll still be waking up in a cold sweat at night after those fucking bosses haunt your dreams.

Another favorite of mine is from Double Dragon II:

EDIT: Oh one more, completely forgot the final boss theme from Ai Chou Aniki:

I have a few particular favourites myself, the first of which plays in The Cathedral and The Chest of Binding of Isaac.

I also really used to love this theme from Kirby 64, especially since I was a total Zero-Two nut up until recently.

Also, Tabuu's theme from SSBB really stuck out at me when I first heard it.

And I was going to post a certain Boss Fight Strings soundtrack from SS3:BFE, but somebody in the second post of this topic (I won't say who) seems to have already done that :U

I actually liked this one alright kthxbai-

And technically not 'boss music', but this one of a pre-endgame climax musical sequence in Journey can't be better described than simply wonderful;

Freaking loved that game and theme, it was pretty tense considering what the bosses would do to you as it plays the music.

I would have put Collective Conciousness and some other Revengence themes in here, but I haven't PLAYED the games, so they don't count.

The final boss fight from Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time also has some great music [the rest of the game's soundtrack is just as nice].

Skip to 0:30 if you'd like to start right at the main part of the track.

Splatterhouse's Requiem of Captain Mozzarella as the fans call it (and the boss). Unfortunately it doesn't have the boss roaring which accompanies the song rather well.

My absolute favorite has to be this. This game will always hold a special place in my heart.

This was awesome as well. This was one of my earliest video game memories. I felt awesome when I beat it as a kid.

I also really liked the Emperor Ing's battle theme:

While this one isn't a final boss, this is one of my favorite themes ever. I loved this boss fight.

I've also been on a Mega Man trip lately, and while I could post any number of songs from any game in the franchise, the one that comes to mind instantly comes from the Mega Man: Unlimited fangame.
