Alexa?

Arashikage

Question

So there's a user I found called Alexa.  Maybe not a user I don't know, but I wasn't able to hover over her name and see anything and the name was white.  What is Alexa?  Or who?  Is she a ghost or something?

Any names in Who's Online that are not links are known bots. IPB has a database of IP addresses known to be used by different crawler bots. They're still counted as guests, but they are identified. Makes it somewhat easier to distinguish actual guest users. That said, there are a lot of other bots out there that are not in the database. They will show as guests.

Alexa is a web indexing service. It gathers information about the internet. They actually have a profile for every site on the internet that doesn't block their bot.

Here is SF-O's: http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/starfox-online.net

Their rankings mainly come from users of their web browser toolbar. Yup, if you have their toolbar you tell Alexa every site you visit. Even the embarrassing ones.

The stats are pretty bare because SF-O is not a big enough site to get a lot of toolbar users. I get the same information but more accurate from Google Analytics (I do not share it with anyone, I only use it to measure how much traffic SF-O gets).

I saw another name which I could have described in the same fashion as this occurence about a day or two ago, some Rachael girl...maybe Facebook is pretending to be a person and troll us? I mean, we know Google (apparently under certain circumstances, also Google Mobile?) and Bing love to stalk this site, and it seems that Facebook has been on our site for some time now as well.

Yeah, it's gotta be a bot. In my opinion, this question is answered.

Wouldn't Google have more information on this site anyways because Google crawls this site more often, and some of us use Google Chrome?
