Popular Post DZComposer
It has come to my attention that people are harassing each other in the chat, and egging people on to harass others, and other sorts of stupidity. The chatroom is something that I pay extra money for. If all it will lead to is people being drama queens then I will simply close the chat and not renew the chat license next time around. Many of the staff actions lately have been related to the chat. I highly advise you all take another look at the forum rules as they are enforced in the chat. Also, please note that everything you say in the chat, including private chats, is logged and can be easily reviewed by staff. So, once again, if you guys can't use the chat without a baby sitter, it will go away. Also, starting today, I am implementing a 3-strikes rule. If you attract negative staff attention three times in the chat, you will be banned from it.
Xidphel
So no more egg throwing? But still, I leave for a bit and people start harassing each other. I personally haven't seen that happen when I enter. COINCIDENCE?! Yeah, probably so. But I still believe it.
Ori
[...] Also, please note that everything you say in the chat, including private chats, is logged and can be easily reviewed by staff. [...] They said once I was paranoid, yes, yes, I was crazy, they said. Riiiiiight. Heheheheheh... o3o They're watching me On a serious note though, I support this decision of rule enforcement. Chat is too good of a feature to be wasted away on pointless harassment and drama crap. I personally don't want to see it go away. How else will I pester the crap out of you guys? o3o
Redeemer
As a reminder, here are the rules: THREE STRIKES RULE: IF YOU GET CAUGHT VIOLATING THE RULES THREE TIMES, YOU WILL BE BANNED FROM THE CHAT. 1. All forum content rules apply - BE NICE TO OTHER USERS!INAPPROPRIATE CHAT PM RPs ARE NOT TOLERATED 2. Do not link to anything that violates the image policy. 3. Do not link to porn, nudity, excessive violence, or hate websites. 4. Do not flood the chatroom 5. Respect the staff. Please pay particular attention to Rule 1, which is basically all usual forum rules. One of which is: 10. Discussion of politics and religion are not allowed. Such discussions tend to cause animosity among members. We would kindly ask members to remember this when in the chat. While it may feel like you're in the presence of friends and feel comfortable enough to discuss this, I advise you do it instead in private or via a chat that is not SFO Chat, just to cover your own backs and ensure you're not breaking any rules. Anyone involved in such discussion will end up with a warning, but we'd rather it not come to that since the Chat is really fun otherwise. Also I'd like to add, musical references are classed as spam and are a quick way of getting banned from the Chat. Also, please refrain from telling other members to "die" or anything similar. This is inappropriate in many regards. There are many other ways of telling someone to stop writing things you don't agree with.
Scourge
10. Discussion of politics and religion are not allowed. Such discussions tend to cause animosity among members. I was not aware of this rule. Was this recently implemented or has this been there forever?
Redeemer
I believe it was enforced when things got rough in the debating forum when it got closed down.
Talyl Landmaster
Yeah, ok. I can deal with rule 10 and perfectly understand why its happening. I honestly don't want to bring up stuff like this (and I know I've been guilty of doing this in the past) again.
Xidphel
I was not aware of this rule. Was this recently implemented or has this been there forever? It was implemented around the time the old brony topic died and when I decided to get a head start on my own grave.
Snys93
I just assume avoiding the chat altogether, seeing its only a matter of time before one of us goes off the handle and banned.
Redeemer
seeing its only a matter of time before one of us goes off the handle and banned. Where is the evidence for that? Everything is smooth most of the time. Most people here are friends and hang out in the Chat on a daily basis. No need to avoid the Chat.
Thu'um
Redeemer is right, its only a matter of time I'm banned, but I don't avoid the chat box.

Redeemer
Lol. Just speaking from experience. Running at the mouth has gotten in trouble in past, especially in the chat Oh I understand. Well you see, it's important to give the benefit of the doubt to people, especially if they don't know the rules (and let's face it, people don't join a forum and check out the rules instantly lol), so there's a difference between reminding someone of the rules, and giving someone an official strike if they should know better. But you can only really judge this at the moment of the thing concerned, know what I mean? It's nothing to worry about, I myself don't think that this will change anything because most people are totally cool in the Chat to begin with. Dr. Orange
Also I'd like to add, musical references are classed as spam and are a quick way of getting banned from the Chat. Granted I've seen a lot of this over my experience in the chat, but this rule is when there's mass spam of Youtube links and not the occasional interesting video or parody song or whatever, right? Sarita
Obviously use your common sense. If we wanted to do that we could probably just disable links in the chat. (I don't actually know if we can do that.)

Namely we're addressing the posting of song lyrics or song names as conversation. If people want to share youtube links, that's all fine and good as long as it's not spammed like crazy. xD

Well then it should be the responsibility of the member to read and understand the rules before they chat. Plus, its not hard to look for the rules, especially if it pops up before you chat. Its like signing a contract. You should be responsible for the actions you take because by signing said contract, you claim that you have read and understood the rules set.
Arashikage
Yes but because people don't usually read everything they sign for, it's very nice that they give users the benefit of the doubt. It's kind of like a three strikes rule, which is common almost everywhere.

This is true, friend, but sadly many people never look at the rules when they join a website. I myself have gotten into a habit of it just because I'm staff and it's something I do a lot here for reference. I've been staffing sites since I was 14 so it's really set in stone in my brain (and probably isn't normal). xD But it's completely normal for people to join a forum and be so excited to take part in the community, they just don't read the rules. I have actually considered linking the rules to new members in their intro topic but I feel that just looks too unfriendly and "HEIL SFO CHECK HERE BEFORE DOING ANYTHING", you know? However you are quite right, new members should look at the rules. It would make things so much easier for everyone. You have the image for an ideal cyber world, Talyl. x3

Redeemer
What!? there are rules?! So I was told. Anyway, I think we can close this now that DZ's put his message across.
