Games: StarFox. There's not mcuh competition between the two here.

Movies: Star Wars: Again, not much competition.

Just try and imagine a Starfox movie. I don't think it would work very well....

there are plenty of good star wars games. the rouge squadrens and starwars battlefront to name a few.

A movie could be cool. It could be a cartoon. But i'm sure they would blow it. I dont know if it could be done.

99% of the time video game movies suck. I mean what would the plot be. What would the characters say?

if they made the Star Fox movie like Gundam SEED then it would be great as long as there is no aliens in it. I like space stuff as long as there is no aliens. In Star Wars there's just too many corny looking things in it and life sabers come on! I think you'll have to agree that the weapons in Star Fox are way more creative. Come on you're fighting your own people when you say Star Wars is better.

A starfox movie could be cool if it was like fullmetal alchimist or something. I think aliens can be in space if done correctly. Aliens was a good movie that had, well, aliens. The aparoids in starfox assualt are like aliens. The wepons in that game were not creative at all. It included most of the mandatory first person shooter guns:minigun, sniper rifle, shotgun, rocket launcher. I think starfox is better than starwars. But it is not that terrible. Trust me you could do much worse.

Ah, a battle of the fans. Star Fox loyalists all prepare for siege as the roaring army of the Star Wars fans roars ever closer. A few good-natured diplomats attempt to quell the argument, but it is too late . . . the siege has begun.

So why I am one of the guys standing out in the middle of the battlefield unarmed and trying to stop the fighting while flame bombs are going off all around me? I think its because Im tired of playing Chrono Trigger and Mercenaries, but it could also be because I enjoy living on the edge . . . or maybe Im just bored out of my mind. Or maybe youve been brainwashed too . . . or maybe . . .okay Ill get on with it . . .

Anyway . . . the bottom line is that you cant really compare the two. Star Fox is a game series and Star Wars is a movie series. Both are great to their respective fans and theres no reason why you have to like one more than the other or even like both.

However, in the interests of keeping my record of never having a post shorter than half a page as well as my desire to utilize my mad sociology and psychology skills to completely rewrite other peoples minds (yes, I am that powerful), I will now begin to write what will amount to a small essay comparing and contrasting the strong points of both series towards one another in a vain attempt to establish some common ground and end all hostilities so that we can all go home and have pie. (Somewhere in this world, there are people rolling in the floor at my brand of humor . . . trust me on that one).

Star Wars, the money-making merchandise magnet by movie-making mogul Mr. George Lucas (and yes, that sentence was incredibly fun to say) has since probably before any one of us was born, given geeks and nerds the world over another reason to never leave their houses and pursue any form of contact with the outside world. With its rich story and the incredible complexity of everything going on in the background, has enthralled people for almost three decades. There is so much literature on the Star Wars universe and all its characters that I doubt even Lucas himself knows everything about the monster he created. There are resource manuals such as the Star Wars Encyclopedia with detailed listings of nearly EVERY SINGLE PERSON, PLACE, THING, ITEM, WEAPON, ALIEN, and anything else you can imagine from EVERY single movie. You know the Sandtrooper captain in the cantina from Episode IV? Hes got a name and a complete backstory. Every alien, every creature, every ship, every stich of clothing is meticulously designed and usually has a name and backstory. The TIE in TIE fighters stands for Twin Ion Engine. Star Destroyers are assembled in the Kuat Drives Yards. Did you know that Kyle Katarn, star of the videogame series Dark Forces and Jedi Knight stole the plans for the Death Star after his defection to the Rebellion? Did you know that the standard load-out of the Y-Wing consists of dual laser cannons, an R5 astromech droid, an Ion Cannon, and a full bay of bombs? If you like the small details, Star Wars has that in spades. And one of the things that is most impressive is that EVERYTHING in the Star Wars universe, whether it is a movie, book, game or anything else, is perfectly tied in to the main story. Anything that is contradictory is thrown out or redone.

Now, lets take a look at Star Fox. Having begun its life as an experiment for the SNESs FX Chip, the original Star Fox soared into the hearts of millions and proved, yet again, that Miyamoto still had the magic when it came to creating new series. It pushed the envelope of games at the time, not only because it was 3D, but also because it was one of the first games to feature voice acting (not especially wonderful voice acting, and it only happened after you beat the game, but hey . . . it was a step). Star Fox 64 was a retelling of the story. This time, Andross wasnt just a scary block monster who threw up panels. There was more story, more depth this time around, not to mention what is still some of the best voice acting in video games (and certainly at the time). It offered gamers extreme replay value by giving them multiple routes to Venom and two different endings (or arguably one ending and one you dont actually think that was Andross do you? ending). It featured challenges for each mission, an unlockable ace mode, and unlockable multiplayer features. In addition, it was also the first game to feature the Rumble Pack the latest iteration of which is standard in all current console controllers. Story-wise, Star Fox 64 didnt try to break much new ground and instead opted to use the 18-year old and co. save the universe (a favorite of RPGs!). But it did present an interesting conundrum in the form of James McCloud (alive or dead? The jury is still out) and arguably one of the best surprise endings ever. A lot of depth can be found courtesy of the Star Fox 64 manual (I still treasure mine) which has the backstory for every planet, many of the bosses, and also a lot of information of the ships and crew of Star Fox lore.

Now, I wont go on summarizing the stories of the latter two games, but suffice to say, both are well done and, while perhaps not breaking much new ground (Adventures basically being a combination of Save the world and Save the Princess and Assault being aliens are possessing people . . . stop them) but both were well done enough and had enough twists and turns to remain interesting.

But, when you stack Star Wars up beside Star Fox in terms of story, Star Wars definitely wins in terms of depth. It simply has more information available that Star Fox probably ever will. Now, as for quality of story, that boils down to a manner of personal preference. Personally, Star Wars, with its massive interconnectivity to all forms of media titled Star Wars wins for me. This is not to say that Star Fox has a bad plot. This is not an either/or situation. The bottom line, when you want to see a movie with enough depth to get lost in for days, watch Star Wars. When you want to have a roaring good time blowing the mess out of anything that dare opposes you, play Star Fox.

Now, lets talk about weapons. Vehicularly, both Star Wars and Star Fox are quite original. With its snazzy designs for the Arwing, Landmaster, and (massively under-appreciated) Blue Marine, Star Fox shows a lot of style and presents the player with cool-looking vehicles that offer varied gameplay. In Star Wars, there are literally thousands of different types of original vehicles (some cool, some strange, some tiny, and some as big as celestial bodies), each fleshing out the story a little more and giving the Star Wars nerds even more ways to sculpt their alter-ego RPG characters.

But lets examine the on-foot combat. In Adventures we have a magic staff and in Assault we have a fairly typical selection of FPS weapons. This isnt a bad thing as all are well done, but its just not very original. Star Wars on the other hand has what appears to be a typical assortment of weaponry, but upon closer examination reveals itself to be highly unique and original. Sure, weve got the basics covered, pistols, rifles, automatics, but each alien race and faction have weapons unique to them and all function slightly different. Some are more powerful, some are slower, some are sleeker, and some . . . get you shot. Theres everything from the ho-hum rifle, the E-11, to the unique and original staple of the Wookies, the Bowcaster. Each weapon is unique and a lot of time and careful attention to detail is put into creating them. And of course, lets not forget the Light Saber! And with that, let me lead into my next paragraph titled:

Why is the Lightsaber cool?

To many, the symbol of the Jedi is the ultimate collectors item; many people pay upwards of $200 just to get a blade-less silver stylized handle of their favorite Jedi to serve as nothing more than a decoration on their mantle. To others, Lightsabers are glow sticks that would never work in a real fight. And thats where the mysterious energy known as the Force comes in. Everyone knows what it is. Its awesome to most of us, and apparently stupid to a few. The Light Side offers cool mind tricks, healing, and protection and the Dark Side allows one to call down lightning, choke a person simply by closing your fist, or even drain someones life to heal your wounds. The Star Wars saga revolves around the eternal struggle of the Jedi (good) vs. the Sith (evil). The Jedi is such an icon to many because he has powers that humans could never have. Many people love the thought of jumping 10 stories or having reflexes fast enough to not only deflect blasts, but redirect them back at the source, or the ability to move so quickly that you can move from forty feet in front of an enemy to behind him in the time it takes him to blink. I believe that in this modern age, a number of us long for the days of honorable combat, where victory was determined by skill with the blade not whos faster at pushing the shiny red button launch nuke button. Jedi are futuristic Samurai and noble Knights, and they are, to many, a source of fascination and adoration.

But Jedi arent simply about fighting, their mantra of living peacefully, only fighting when necessary, and seeking wisdom is something that many people desire, and indeed, would still be welcome even today.

Star Wars offers dreamers a place to let their imagination soar and while Star Fox could do the same thing, Star Wars is far more conducive to it.

But in the end, when all the smoke clears, when you want a fun space-shooter or adventure, turn to Star Fox. When you want to be entertained with an enthralling deep, high connected story that allows you to escape from the mundane for just a little while, turn to Star Wars.

If you dont like Star Wars, thats fine. A lot of people dont like Star Fox either. Just realize that it takes all kinds to make this world what it is. Just because someone likes something that you dont doesnt mean you have to razz them about it. Try and seek an understanding as to why they would like what you despise. Be open to other points of view, or else your life will be very frustrating indeed.

As for me, there's a place in my heart for both and both places I hold with equal esteem.

Whew! Not one of my most formal essays, but at three pages single-spaced, I think it gets the point across. Thanks to anyone who actually made it through the whole thing!

 Is he finished yet

Well that was mean! Heh, anyway.

For those who suffer with short attention spans or a rampant desire to critisize anything longer than a paragraph, allow me to shorten my previous statement:

Because Star Wars is a movie series and Star Fox is a game series, they simply cannot be truly compared side-by-side in every way. While some may like the terrific gameplay of Star Fox, others will like the rich story-telling of Star Wars. They both have much to offer and while some may like both, others will prefer only one.

And for those of you who need ever further simplification . . .

Ahem . . .

STAR WARS IS TEH R0XX0RS!!111!!11. STAR FOX IS TEH R0XX0RS 2!!!!! BOTH R 133T!!!1!!11!!

Now if you'll excuse me . . . I have to go wash the nerd out of my mouth.

*wasn't trying to be mean but you were kinda ranting on*

You do know I was doing that on purpose, right?

The whole thing, while being what I truly feel, was written more as a joke than anything else. I've long since realized the futility of writing long posts on this, or any other online medium.

Alas, the suffering of those who have too much to say . . .

You'll have to forgive my "Starfox Infidelity" in this case, but Star Wars all the way. There's no contest there. Put any Sith Lord (or Jedi, for that matter) against any Starfox character, and there'd be nothing left by the time the Force-gifted being was done. Star Wars 100%.

Here is what I believe at least stafox dont have to cover behind mythical powers to save the universe. He can do all on his own. That Is a true hero there. He doesnt need the force as a power crutch to save him he does it all on his own. Starfox Forever!

The force controlls all. It's in starfox too, but fox isn't a jedi so he can't use it. It's also in spiderman, but he calls in spidey sense... okay, i'm lying.

starwars: 6 good movies and hundreds of good games

starfox: 5 games, and 2 good ones

who wins?

I repeat: you're trying to compare two entirely different franchises, save for the Sci-Fi theme.

Apples to oranges. You can't statistically compare the two.

They only share the fact that they're both Sci-fi games. The ideas and objectives behind the two are completely different.

StarFox is more centered on just the fun of shooting stuff, with just some storyline. Star Wars, on the other hand, relies moslty or their rich and expansive storylines.
