Krystal on SSB4

Purple and I had a discussion about the possibilities of the new debuting characters on the next game of Super Smash Bros. He told me that Krystal is actually one of the most popular fan requests, and, fanboyism aside, I think it's actually a pretty good idea.

-She brings original powers to the table, so there's lots of possibilities for a great moveset.

-She's not that obscure of a character for the general Nintendo Universe.

-Purple stated that seeking new elements on the SSB universe is their main concern, rather than seeking an appealing character, which brings us to the first reason while fullfilling the appeal criteria.

The downturns I see is that they might feel they're clogging the SSB world with too many Star Fox characters; very few series have this luxury. Also, they normally favor characters that appeal to the japanese masses (hence Marth & Roy on Melee), and Krystal hit it big on America.

What do you feel? Would you include her? Do you think she doesn't fit? Do you think of her worthy enough for the game to knock out other SF character?

I'd include her, but that's a bit biased given she's one of my favourite video game characters, and I assume she'd be using a staff for her attacks and I have a love for pole weapons.

I don't like Krystal very much but I think she'd make a very good Smash character provided she was using her staff--the thing practically came pre-packaged with a perfect moveset (^B rocket boost, vB earthquake, B frost thing, >B controlled firebolt, like Zelda's). Having a Star Fox character with an entirely different moveset would be nice, not to mention more female characters in general.

Nintendo wants to remove clones, Krystal could have a pretty unique moveset

Nintendo wants to include more female characters, last time I checked deviantart, Krystal is female *shudder*

Fans want Krystal, and enough people know about her that nobody will be confused as to who she is

...where the fuck is the issue here?

I'm just going to sit in the back of the room and wave the Fara Phoenix flag. :-P

Krystal would surely be a welcome addition to the Smash roster for reasons put so eloquently above.

*cough cough* Fox clone *cough*

I guess I'm not being imaginative as to what her move sets would be..though ill admit it would be neat to see her just because it would a nod to the hipster Starfox fans (us) who actualy know who she is.

As far as Krystal, I agree with Dras in how her move set is pretty much laid out and quite different from Fox/Falco/Wolf. Cut Falco if they feel like they have too many Starfox characters so they can keep a villain on roster.

I am going to agree with this idea. This is good idea. I like idea.

But to solve the problem, why don't we just kill the Wolf character.

Problem solved.

*Entire room erupts in applause*

Wasn't Wolf more there because of Bowser and Ganondorf (Major antagonists)?

Include Krystal and satisfy fanboys looking for more females to gawk at in the game. Mission Accomplished.

iirc, Wolf lost to Krystal on the popularity polls overall, but he got in due to seniority.

Or just maybe the fact that there are what, 3 female characters on the roster? (Technically 5 right now with the addition of both Wii Fit Trainer and Rosalina but whatever...i don't count ZSS as a separate character, since you can only play as her when picking Samus)

I like her with a yellow suit a bit better but yeah that's definitely the right idea with her outfit. The other Star Fox characters have had costume overhauls for the Smash games so it's a safe bet Krystal would get one too.

Yes, the only reason anyone wants female characters is so that there's more for fanboys to gawk at. Not at all anything to do with the fact that female characters are ridiculously underrepresented in the series.

It really bothers me more than it should that in that artwork, the staff tip is different from what it really is.

On the topic of appearance in Smash Bros, its obvious she can't be in her Adventures design and I think its a bit late to use the Assault look so I think JECBrush from Deviantart really nailed it (And is quite an embarassment when its better than what Nintendo has made)

I was actually thinking of JEC as well when thinking about decent character designs for Krystal in any hypothetical appearances she makes in the future...maybe if the jacket was a bit larger to make it practical to wear as opposed to an accessory.  Shameless plug for JEC, but he pretty much nails the design that Nintendo should have made many times beyond just that picture.

But...Brawl didn't use anyone's Command outfits? I'm not talking about the weird facial structure and anatomy they've been using (though even still their body anatomy is different from the Command models), the actual outfits have been completely different.

I'm somewhat curious as to how Krystal would stack up height-wise, seeing as they've made Fox relatively short when compared to other characters on the roster.

Funny you should mention that Crazy. Remember that little joke about Fox vs Krystal height from Adventures? Well, if you don't pause on the screen where we see them standing next to each other on the Great Fox. Take note of where Fox's boots are located in the image in relation to where Krystal's feet would be assumed to be placed.

Ill let the image speak for itself

Well, memory serves Krystal if shorter than Fox, if only slightly. She only appears taller in Assault because shes got SPACE COMBAT HEELS

She looks taller than him in all the Adventures concept art where they're standing together. Like not mega-huge, just a couple inches or so, but it's noticeable.

And all the SF cast on Brawl spends most of their time crouched on fight position.

There is already a hack for SSBB adding krystal, but it's just a model import over ZS Samus the last time i have check (no new moveset and not even the SFX of Krystal).

It's been a while since this hack gives me a bit of frustration every time I see it (I do not like the job half done).

It is not impossible that one day I finish this hack myself but for now I have to finish Blaze and then I start the work on Miyu.

I'd rather have Nintendo stick with their traditional thoughts on Super Smash Bros in regards to other characters; keep them unlockable and part of the game.  I can't stand what DLC has done to the fighting game genre.

I don't know about DLC. I think version-exclusive (ie Wii vs 3DS versions) characters are the far-more-likely alternative, which would be cool. But then I'd have a reason to buy a WiiU D:

I think that's more on the fortunate side.

Awh, oh well. That's good because now I don't have to buy a WiiU after all.

Krystal is pretty much the only character I've been wanting for SSB4, so hells yes I'd add her. I will still get the game if she wasn't in it, but if she is included, then getting the game will be high up on my list of things to do, fixing my L and R buttons on my 3DS will come right after that.
