Was F-ZeroX and Star Fox 64 supposed to be in the same universe?

Ok, of course this sounds totally crazy but I just borrowed F-ZeroX for the Nintendo 64 from a friend of mine and was really enjoying it until I saw something that really confused me. I saw one of the racing characters named James McCloud. And here's what he looks like compared to Fox McCloud.

hmmmm......Is it just me or does this guy look a lot like Fox McCloud's Father, James McCloud but in human form. But seriously though he does doesn't he??? Even though we never see Fox's father's full body in Star Fox. This guy has the same exact uniform as Fox McCloud, and he has the sunglasses that Fox's dad has!! So here's my question. Was Nintendo's first idea of Star Fox supposed to be with human characters? And was the whole franchise supposed to be based of  F-ZeroX? It sounds crazy right? but here's some more stuff that makes you wonder. In the game they have many animal characters just like Star Fox has but they're a little bit darker. One of the characters was named Leon. Isn't that crazy too? Leon is the Lizard villain that we know and love in Star Fox 64 and I guess if this theory is true then Nintendo liked the idea of having a Wolf character in their Star Fox game. haha. but if you look at James McCloud's ship above it kind of looks like the Ariwing? I mean the wings are bent upward and the colors are all kind of whacky. But this makes me really think if Nintendo was aiming toward a Star Fox and F-ZeroX universe, but and then decided to head both games in complete different paths of their own games.(which was wise if this is true). But what do you guys think? Is this just a coincidence? Or do you guys think this is Ligit? If you actually know why Nintendo has two characters with the same name in two different games please share because I'm really confused.

Your's truly, F-Zero guy of SFO will explain this.

So I understand why you are confused. First, you are playing F-Zero X, where nothing about this coincidence is even explained in the slightest. In the game F-Zero GX for the Gamecube, each of the pilots has a profile with bio information for the players to get to know the cast better.

James McCloud in the F-Zero universe is head of the team named "Galaxy Dog" (which sounds incredibly similar to Star Fox). Basically he works to provide income for his wife and only son. So during peace time he decided to become a F-Zero racer, and converted his own ship into a racing machine to accomplish this task.

Here is a picture of him from F-Zero GX. Take note of the similarities to the Star Fox team uniforms.

Well that clears things up thanks haha. but what I don't get is why doesn't Nintendo come up with characters in F-ZeroX that have nothing to do with other games? Seriously, even on the GameCube version of the game you'd think this would be their time to edit and fix some of the problems they had in the original game. but really Galaxy Dog? what a rip off.

those are just references to the same characters Nintendo owns. they're basically in-jokes.

and, seriously, in what universe is this James McCloud dude a "problem" with F-Zero GX?

I forgot to mention that each pilot also gets their own theme/music or song to go with the profile. It more than makes up for all the weirdness. Enjoy :P

He also dances kinda funny. I dunno if that helps or not but he does.

it's hardly as weird as, like, Mr. EAD

i'm not sure if Mr. EAD represents the upper ceiling of F-Zero weirdness but if he doesn't he's pretty damn close

Actually in the Link I just posted Mr. EAD is represented to be Mario, just like James McCloud is represented as Star Fox. I don't know if I even said that right but read the link if your interested. It's really weird though.

Yeah in all seriousness, my top 6 for weird/zany in F-Zero would have to include the fact that two pop stars, Jack Levin and Kate Alen, are both apparently athletic enough to drive top of the line racing machines...oh and maybe also throw in the monkey, Billy  So i guess I gotta throw in Octoman as well, and maybe Dr. Clash with those mini robotic arms he uses. So that leaves one more spot for I suppose Zoda, the epic fail of a villain if there ever was one.

That's F-ZeroX for yah. haha. I've actually never played the GameCube version is it better than the 64 version. Or is it just crap?

F-Zero GX was so perfect an F-Zero game in every way that they haven't really bothered trying to top it so you can just go over there and be quiet you son of a silly person

Take F-Zero X, and make it about 100 billion times harder, and you've got F-Zero GX. However that said, a lot of the difficulty comes from GX's story mode to tell the truth. GX is much faster, and the turning feels much sharper than in X, if that helps give you an idea.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Command have an ending where Fox and Falco leave their galaxy and wind up joining F-Zero?

I believe you are actually talking about G-Zero...yup, totally unrelated to F-Zero :P

So it was, though it was a reference to F-Zero.

Zoda himself is actually a reference too, at least in name only though. Fun fact: if you look close enough at the UFOs that stop you from dying, you can see chaos from sonic inside the glass bubble.
