Dr. Orange
Since the game is at an early stage, I doubt there is any land/protection on our buildings and such. So until there is, guies, don't mess around with others stuff kay.

LoneWolf
I think we should try and stem the house off tree-style. Three branches, for agriculture, storage/shops, residence/foundry/other resources. Try to make them evenly sized and such. Otherwise we've got the basic framework for a house right now. For those of you who aren't quite comfortable building, fill in walls. Try not to deforest our entire planet (e.g. get wood from other planets). Fill in the walls. Decorate the existing floors. Otherwise if there's a few of you there, don't wait on me to build. Create your own ideas and just explore the possibilities. It's a home for all of us after all. Also, what size residence area should we have? Some 10 or so rooms? 20? We should probably also build some sort of meteor shield so we don't get fucked up. Dr. Orange
I've noticed the meteors hit houses after they retain a certain size. The taller = the more likely. Maybe we should stem the house under the ground and just all around make it wide as well. Both for decoration and for safety.
Clearwater
Never played Starbound. I'll see if I can find a copy of it.

I had to waste some coal to find it.The planet is Alpha Crusis 558 I a.BTW, I left you guys some saplings from rose trees. I've been farming these on my homeworld. They give a lot of wood, a lot of saplings, and they grow quick. Great for farming trees for coal. (1000 wood = 100 coal in a smelter). I planted one in your tree farm and put the saplings in the chest with the others.
Owner/Technical Admin Sideways Posted February 17, 2014 Owner/Technical Admin Share Posted February 17, 2014 DZ, how do you keep your server from shutting down because of inactivity?
DZComposer
I run it as a dedicated server with these options: [[REDACTED]@[REDACTED] starbound]$ cat starbound.config { "allowAdminCommands" : true, "allowAdminCommandsFromAnyone" : false, "attemptAuthentication" : false, "audioChannelSeparation" : [ -25, 25 ], "audioChannels" : 2, "authHostname" : "auth.playstarbound.com", "authPort" : 21027, "bcryptRounds" : 5000, "bind" : "*", "checkAssetsDigest" : false, "claimFile" : "indev.claim", "clearPlayerFiles" : false, "clearUniverseFiles" : false, "controlPort" : 21026, "crafting.filterHaveMaterials" : false, "defaultWorldCoordinate" : "alpha:-84936662:-62554636:-13754701:6:12", "fullscreen" : false, "fullscreenResolution" : [ 1920, 1080 ], "gamePort" : 21025, "maxFrameskip" : 10, "maxPlayers" : 20, "maximized" : true, "maximizedResolution" : [ 1000, 600 ], "musicVol" : 100, "passwordHash" : "", "pixelRatioIdx" : 3, "renderPreSleepRemainder" : 4, "renderPriority" : true, "renderSleep" : true, "rootKey" : "[REDACTED]", "sampleRate" : 44100, "serverName" : "StarFox-Online.net Sarbound Server", "serverPasswords" : [REDACTED], "sfxVol" : 100, "speechBubbles" : true, "tileDamageLimit" : 49, "title.connectionString" : "", "upnpPortForwarding" : true, "useDefaultWorldCoordinate" : false, "username" : "", "vsync" : true, "waitForUpdate" : true, "windowTitle" : "Starbound - Beta", "windowedResolution" : [ 1000, 600 ], "zoomLevel" : 3 } I launch it with a script to throw it in a screen session:[[REDACTED]@[REDACTED] ~]$ cat runstarbound.sh #!/bin/bash cd /home/[REDACTED]/steamcmdgames/starbound/linux64 screen -d -m -S starbound ./ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 --library-path ./ ./starbound_server Starbound was designed for a Debian environment, Ubuntu specifically. Getting it to run in CentOS was a pain in the ass.It still shuts down the processing of planets for inactivity, though, but it wakes up when a player travels to said world. Owner/Technical Admin Sideways Posted February 18, 2014 Owner/Technical Admin Share Posted February 18, 2014 There's a setting inside your universe folder callled universe.settings or something similar. it has settings for SocketTimeout and NetworkInactivity that you can change to hopefully fix it. DZComposer
I don't really see it as broken.I've been amazed at the stability of this little server. It has only crashed once since I set it up. The TF2 server crashes whenever it feels like it.

DZComposer
While not directly relevant to Starbound, it does impact the future of the server. My post from the TF2 thread:Valve's recent changes to quickplay are proving to be a disaster for small server operators like us. The biggest issue is the funneling of players into Valve servers unless they specifically opt out of that behavior with the method for doing so not being obvious. The server operators mailing list is full of complaints. If Valve does nothing to remedy this, I'm afraid it may jeopardize the future of the TF2 server unless we can get back to the days of filling it with SF-O people. I cannot justify spending the money on it that I do if the server sits empty. Not even adding Starbound as an alternate game has led to enough server use to justify the expense.I'm paid-up through the end of March. If server activity does not improve by then, I will not be renewing.
Dr. Orange
Where is everyone? The server is empty on most days and I sure as hell can't decorate this big ass house by myself.
