Blood Hounds - Ch. 3 : First Day on the Job

Zephir shrugged to Hackett's response. "If they malfunctioned, then they aren't reliable." He begun questioning whether it was a good idea to leave his ship on Cornelia. He went down the line of coloured aircrafts. There was one that had stripes of Orange over a light-grey hull. It's Orange enough for the moment ... for the moment. He threw his jacket up onto the side of the ship to claim it for the moment and turned back to help Ian with his ammunition. "Need a hand, Comrade?"

(Ansam to Ashlin)

"Not at all. The more the merrier," said Ansam as he strapped on his helmet and comm gear. "Besides we need something with long range sensors since these Mk1 Arwing sensor arrays are practically dinosaurs and I think," Ansam looks back at the shuttle Ashlin had chosen, "that'll do it."

(Ansam to Hackett)

"Is that bird equipped?" he gestured to the shuttle.

"Woman on the steering wheel... anything better than me"

"As long as you get us from A to B, perfect by me" he responded to Ashlin.

The control  scheme seemed pretty easy to grasp onto, the manual flight would be more of his thing. Though Dimitri wanted to be sure he'd know what to do exactly for both methods of controling the ship. "Ok, nice. I'll have to remember that." He over looks the controls again as a thought pops into his head. "Is there some sort of brief simulation? Just to get a feel for how to control it?" He says, scratching at his neck.

(Ansam to Lennox)

"Give the lady some room, scratch post, you can ride with me if you want. Only thing is I'll have to tie you to the fuselage as my hood ordainment."

His boiling point was reached.

He promised not to blow his lid off, but he then got a brilliant idea.

"Stop with your crap..." his tone dead serious, his pupils tense and adopting a pretty solid posture. "...Stop dissrespecting me and stop your fucking attitude towards me. You're screwing this up before even starting by being a little bitch and go stirring drama whenever you want. Boss here will surely have no doubt to kick you to the curb if you keep up with your bullshit..." he turned away and walked to the public part of the shuttle. "Don't fucking crash" he said as closure

Words were his forté. Releasing his anger, making himself seem as the better teammate and diminishing Ansam in front of Hackett? Priceless.

"Both of you, knock it off!" yelled Hackett over the comms. "Ansam, racism won't be tolerated anymore. Lennox, you're not a shining example either, so don't think you can lecture him." He sealed the cockpit of his Arwing and readied up. "Unless you have something important to say, shut up and let's fly."

The AI immediately responded by creating a simulation. Sim Mode engaged. A 3D map was created for him that had three different targets. Seeing through the translucent parts of it, he could see that the viewscreens also had an overlay with the virtual targets.

Ansam just smiled at Lennox who didn't stop to realize that he and his fellow pilots were all that stood in the way of possible waves of squadrons of Wolfens. He calmly closed his cockpit canopy as his Arwing roared to life still with a sarcastic grin on his muzzle.

"G-diffuser is functioning within normal perpetrators . All systems are lookin' good, I'm green across the board. Arwing G-03 ready for launch."

Dimitri watched as the map appeared in front of him. "Nice." He says, leaning in and seeing the three targets. "Now just to figure out how to set a.." Stopping momentarily as his hand hit one of the targets, placing a cross hair over it. "..guess thats how." He says, making the holographic display of the Executor line up the shot. Once lined up he fires, hitting the target; sending a hole through the image. He repeats the process, destroying the other two. "Alrighty, now just to wait til we have a green light in the mission." He says, leaning back and accessing the coms; turning off the simulation.

Zephir gave what hep he could with Ian and jogged over to his shuttle. Picking up his jacket and putting it over his shoulders hoping it wouldn't rip in anyway and placed a commset over his head. Taping away at buttons and setting off for flight, he made sure his set worked.

"I work with comedic idiots. Test ... test."

Ready to fly, Zephir hit the switch ... well punched it.

"Ah dont worry Lennox, Im not gonna crash us. Flew a faster ship then this and havnt crashed it yet." Ashlin said to the cat after his and the shepards little squable. With that she turned back and climbed into the pilots chair, starting up the ship and running through the pre-flight chechlist. After everything was in order she grabbed the headset and slipped it over head. "Com'on guys, get yer asses on board."

Elektra locked and loaded, making sure her fire selector was set to safe.  She put on her helmet, and loaded onto the shuttle, finding a place to sit and looking at the crew.  She said not a word, contemplating what was going to happen when the doors opened to let them off on the planet.

Ian lets out a relaxing sigh as he places the heavy container of ammunition down. Letting the bones in his back reform into something resembling a skeletal structure, he takes a seat inside the craft, waiting to be deposited where he is meant to go.

He cradles the monstrosity of a gun on his lap, turning off his ocular targeting system to get a little shut eye.

With the engines running hot, Ansam nursed the Arwings throttle as it rose up and propelled forward to the outer edge of the hanger and though the force field containment barrier.

Lennox eyed the rest of the ground team.

There was Ashlin. She seemed capable enough, but if he heard right, snipers were her specialties. Doubt that'll mesh well with close combat guard.

Then it was Ian. He never dealt primates before, so he only had some unfounded steteotypes. Still, he seemed liek the first line of defense and the back everyone should stand behind if shit hits the fan.

There was Elektra... "Wait... Weren't you supposed to go flying with the rest? What comes?".

Would be interesting to see both women dealing with the enviroment. Holigans normally never take women that looked their gender seriously in the merc business; that could be an advantage.

The engines came to life. This big-but-still-small rides were bumpy and turbulent as hell. Hold on tight...

Hackett reved up the engine and punched up the throttle up, blasting out of the shuttle bay. He came about to fly alongside the Executor, giving it a long hard look before speeding forward. As he passed the frigate, a shuttle started flying toward the ship, gently landing in the docking bay, carrying a particular passenger on board.

The freighter could be seen ahead at the CDF check point. Another frigate was alongside it with two other fighter escorts that would assist the Blood Hounds on their convoy. This shipment was extremely important to the CDF and would mean the difference between victory and defeat in the war against piracy.

"Alright, team. This will be one of our most important jobs as a merc band. Space Dynamics has contracted us to defend the package to the best of our ability, and in return will give us a complete upgrade on all tech on board. This includes medical tech, new Arwings, weapons, armor, and ground vehicles. We're also getting a full upgrade to the VI system, so get ready for the first artificial crew member of the team."

Ansam followed Hackett out of the hanger along the exterior of the ship, minding his distance while keep a sharp lookout in the void of space for any potential hazards.

(Ansam to Hackett on an open channel)

"So we're getting a walking chrome toaster, eh? I hope it doesn't burn my bagels."

"She's not going to be a robot. She IS the Executor. I met the AI we're receiving. She's tempermental, but I think you'll grow to like her."

Dimitri watches as they pull out in front of the Executor, leaning back in the chair a bit. "Finally getting started." He says over the channel, making a small flight path to follow the group.

All through Ansam's mind were movie plots that started very similar to this. New A.I., state-of-the-art and less than a week later kills everyone on board. He could handle that...maybe, but that wasn't what he was worried about.

"This thing ain't gonna watch me take a shower for "security reasons", is it? Cos thats really going to put a hamper on me if it goes all Hal 9000 or some sh*t on us."

"She can be pissed off, but she wont try to kill you. Honestly, I think they took someone's brain and slapped it in a computer."

"Yes because out of everyone on the ship, the AI would choose you to spy on naked." Zephir chuckled through his mic and he steadied his ship to line up with the Executor, just up and to the left of the upper hull. "Well I hope this new VI can take a joke."

Space was all around. The vastness beauty of the universe. Sadly there was little time to take heed on the sight. There was a job to be done. Zephir took a puff from his pipe and cracked his knuckles. "Time to get to work." He said to himself.

"How much further til we reach the "wagon train"?"

"This bastard that worried for his size that's his main worry on the new AI?"

"Wait up, the most important brand new upgrade we'll get from this is only a more bitchy, peeping-tom of a computer? Joy. Are there high speed ground vehicles in the mix? That's something more akin to me"
