Blood Hounds - Ch. 3 : First Day on the Job

Star smiled and answered his first question.

"I worked for a Computer Company before I came here. I was one of the best workers, able to fix almost anything they handed to me. I also use to study Avionics and worked on planes in the military but I soon left after my two year period. Pretty decent at hacking and the like as well".

When she heard his second question. her happiness faded and she looked at him with a stare full of hurt and anger. Memories flashed in her mind of her past, the barbaric tests and experiments, the many friends she made and soon lost because of the sick bastards.

"Bad cant even describe the way we were treated.......These people were vile and sick. Every day was a pattern of tests and experiments, which you were either a success and they kept you around.....or you were a failure and they executed you. We did a lot of survival training, where they would send other kids into the enclosed area and we would fight to the death. They also messed with your genetic make-up, some kids having weird deformities, some getting the good things like enhanced sight or becoming stronger, then some going mentally insane and soon having to be put down for the safety of the other kids and scientists. It usually depended how your body accepted or rejected the new chemicals or bacteria being put into their body" she said, looking at him.

"I got use to it and learned to cope with everything, but it still hurts to think and or remember it. I came here not only for a job, but maybe to get a head start of finding these twisted fiends and putting them down before they hurt any more people then they already have".

Ashlin didnt bother sitting down, she found standing to be more comfortable and professional.  She removed the sheet from around her and tossed it over her shoulder before answering his question. "1.93 miles with the windspeed of .8 heading southwest."  A smirk creased the vixens muzzle as the memory returned to her. "It was a simple job, just take out the leader of some smuggling ring while he was making a drop off. I sat up on a ridge, lined up the shot, and pulled the trigger. Bullet went straight through the bastards ear and out the bottom of his jaw."

..::Hackett to Ansam::..

He held up his hand. "If its about the money you owe, I'm already aware. The CDF gave me everything I needed when it comes to your records and agreed to waive them if I paid. As long as you repay me, I wont have an issue with pulling your ass out oft he fire," he said continuing to read through the tablet. "If that's not all, then you better come clean now while you're still ahead."

..::Hackett to Elektra::..

He noticed that she wasn't all that comfortable and put on a more apologetic face. "Don't worry. There's no one back there." he said. He flipped a switch that turned on the light behind the two way mirror, showing no one was back there. He turned back to his tablet. "You're rather unique I've noticed. You do a lot of outlandish things. Nothing that keeps you from getting in. Id actually prefer some people with that train of thought." he said. "Why exactly are you looking to join?"

..::Hackett to Lennox::..

"That's because he wasn't the one I was looking for. I was looking for the master behind the mask," he said. "You've done a good job of evading the CDF to this point. How do you feel about working on the same side without the same rules?" he asked, walking into a room. It looked like an interrogation room, but it was evident that no one was behind the two way window.

..::Hackett to Ansam::..

His face got a bit less friendly at the mention of Raddel. "I'm aware of him. General Pepper told me to keep aware of any less than graceful orders when I was serving under him. Raddel is the one that made me leave the CDF. I couldnt take anyone like him giving me orders." He said, turning back to his tablet. "Expect a mission concerning him in the future." He brought up a few files. "On some lighter notes, I'll counting on your expertise of cargo shipments to secure supplies for us as well as making sure the right things go the right people. We'll also be intercepting pirate convoys and disrupt their supply lines. Your line of work indeed," he said. "I'll give you a list of ship blueprints to study and plan ahead. Welcome aboard." he said. He stood up and held hand out to her. "Report to the Executor. The ship's defense systems should recognize your hair samples."

..::Hackett to Zephir::..

"I'm not asking for attitude, I'm asking for an answer. If you want to get smart with me, you can forget getting a paycheck." It was pretty evident he wasnt in the mood to mess around.

..::Hackett to Star::..

"I'll consider it a priority. The CDF has still been trying to find them but hasnt been looking in all the right places. Rest assured, we'll take care of them." He went back to his tablet. "Well, according to these files your competency in tech is satisfactory... Welcome aboard." he said. He stood up and held his hand across the table. "Report to the Executor when ready. The ship will know when you're at the door."

..::Hackett to Ashlin::..

"Impressive. Think you can double that?" he asked looking completely smug in his question. He waited for her response, assuming she was in shock at the question of 4 miles. "Yes. Im serious. I think you can pull it off."

"It will really depend how it will all flow. Military I can handle, but you'll never catch me dead working with police. Remember the Napocan Independecy War with all those corrupt police corps attacking innocents who just wanted seccesion? I was on the midst of all that. So police is normally a huge no-no." He took a last puff of the cigarette before throwing it away. "Otherwise, don't nag me, pay me well, and it'll all go just right. In an underworld full of happy triggers, you'll need someone with my expertises"

Zephir turned to him. Soft-like and slow. "I don't give attitude. I give knowledge and equipment. That is all." He took another shot, the burn of the alcohol stung as he clenched up his face. He took a breathe and set the glass upside down on the counter. "Many a ship would like to have a Quantum Particle Field Transfer. Not many do. You have something I would like, I would repay with what I know." Zephir stood and laid a couple credits on the counter next to the glass. "And, yes, I have doctorate."

Star stood and shook his hand with a smile on her face.

"I appreciate you hiring me and the fact that you take my problems into account. Now, the Executor is at the docking bay, correct?" she asked, picking up her suitcase.

   "Thanks, I also want to be one to nail Raddel. He ruined my reputation and the lives of some five-eight year old girls, so if the hammer drops on Raddel it better be me. One more thing, eventually I do want my ship back. Its in some CDF impound, shes called Snake Eyes. She has some stowed equipment that may prove useful. You can deduct that from my pay."

   Ansam got up from his chair and exited the room.

(I'm currently working the Snake Eyes' exterior as of this moment)

(Finished. This took me a couple hours tops)

(Madre! You guys move fast! XD)

Doc takes Ryan's hand and shakes it.

"Yes, a check-up is good every once in a while but I doubt I was called here to just to play physician." Doc says coolly. "I heard about quite the offer regarding an outfit being set up on this planet."

Ashlin was indeed shocked. She looked down at the floor, doing quick calculations in her head to see if such a thing could even be possible. When she was done she looked back to Ryan. "Yeah, I could do it. Given I have a clear line of site." She activated her PDA and extended the screen, making adjustments to a schematic of her sniper rifle. "But with the 8.59mm rounds that I use, four miles would mean a 6 second bullet travel time. I would need a work bench to modify my rifle to fit a higher caliber round to reduce its time in air. You let me do that, and I'll nail your target at four miles.

"Yeah, and there are more than enough people with your expertise around. Don't think your irreplaceable in this business," he said going through the data again. As much as his noggin told him not to, his guts said to give him a chance. "Report to the Executor. I'll let you know when our first mission begins."

..::Hackett to Zephir::..

He smiled as the business started talking. "Report to the Executor. And before you start messing with her systems, remember, she's my ship. Welcome to the team." He held his hand out to shake his before getting ready to leave.

..::Hackett to Star::..

"Docking Bay 4 to be precise," he said as he finished his report. Very polite individual. Note to self: Dont get on her bad side.

..::Hackett to Ansam::..

"I'll work on it." he said, making final remarks on his evaluation sheet before standing up and exiting the room.

..::Hackett to Derek::..

"I'm looking for a combat medic, and this planet isnt the only one involved. Get familiar with the different persons on this list, cause you'll be doing some check-ups soon." he said, handing him a list of the crew he had picked out, including himself. "For you, its not a matter of making it, its a matter of 'we need you'." He said being up front and honest with him. He let him take a minute to review the papers and waited for his response. "You'll be paid as much as you work. No one gets out the easy way." he said.

..::Hackett to Ashlin::..

"Dont sweat it. After our first job, we'll be getting new equipment. I'll make sure you get first dibs," said Hackett as he smiled from his chair. "Aside from that, your record is pristine and I have no reason to say no." He stood up, holding his hand out to shake hers. "Welcome aboard."

   Ansam departed for the Executor, the ship that will be his job source for the foreseeable future. He passed by other hired mercs doing the same including a doctor and the suit he saw earlier.

   He knew this was no pleasure cruise and he was eager to begin work soon.

Star smiled and gave a polite "thank you" before heading over to the specified ship, her shoes tapping as they made contact with the floor. She then gets to the ship, where she was scanned thoroughly and was confirmed to enter. Before she entered, she saw a young man and approached him.

"Are you one of the hired mercs as well?" she asked. (that was directed to Snes1993 )

(Ansam to Star)

   "Yeah, just got approved and about to board. Names Ansam, Ansam Sonderust."

   The long brown coated German Shepard extended his hand in friendship. He wore a short sleeve tee over a longed shirt and cargo pant with velcro strapped boots. A cigar hung out of his face and threw it away when he thought it might be offensive

"Star Alexander. Pleasure to make your acquaintance. So, what's your main skill that he hired your for if it's not rude for me to ask".

   "I'm a procurer of merchandise that would otherwise be...illegal. Now I've fanned out to other avenues while still retaining my skills as a smuggler, thief, saboteur, bounty hunter, whatever the job calls for. Mr. Hackett feels that because of my history and background that I could be of used when it comes to the facets of the criminal underworld. Do worry I won't kipping or bumping anyone off while on the Executor. So what about you?"

   He saw the apparent influx approaching the Executor.

   "Looks like everyone is coming all at once. You can tell me inside while we're underway."

Lennox just went into the ship. A big main hall with some other people he suspected was his teammates. Since he was still on full "O'Toole " attire, he decided to play along for as long as he could. In the meantime, he plopped into the nearest couch and propped his feet up, not really caring to make first contact.

She nodded, "As long as I can do what I need, and get paid, I'll do whatever I have to." She said, then hearing his question nodded once more, "I figured I could use some extra cash, and it seemed like a fun challenge."  At "fun challenge" she grinned, her unusually sharp teeth displayed between her jaws.

"Indeed. The Families haven't as of yet called for my particulars, but i am not a strange to their kind of doing things." Ian says, lowering his head to pass through the door. He takes the seat and settles his bulk into it as best as he can. He sets his case down aside him with one hand still resting on the handle.

"But now allow me to ask you, what kind of jobs do you do to require the services of myself and the Gatling gun?"

Ashlin shook Ryans hand and turned to head out the door. She debated throwing the sheet back over herself, but decided against it and instead stuffed it back into her book bag. Flipping her black goggles over her eyes, she stepped back into the freezeing snow and shorty afterwards found the ship. Surprised to find it open when she approached the door, she stepped inside and removed the eye protection, then quietly took a seat. She wasnt interested in making friends, not yet. The vixen reactivated her PDA and pulled up the schematic again to finish the adjustments.

Doc looks over the list. "Gorillas, foxes and wolves, oh my." he says a bit amused. "I'm sure you heard about my rates, but here I am so you must be ready to pay, yes?" Doc nods. "Very well, I can start immediately."

Zephir took the hand and walked off, no verbal response came from him. He walked to the hanger where the Executor was and saw people entering the loading doors. Removing his pipe, he used the other hand to take a cloth and wipe his brow. "People..." he though. He then placed the pipe into his mouth and walked in and just stood in the doorway to see the setting. He turned to still see more people coming. He opened his khaki jacket to breathe a little and just walked in and stood. Waiting.

He was slightly intimidated by the teeth, but couldnt help but grin at her enthusiasm. "That's definitely a good way to look at it," but the grin faded as he got a bit more serious. "But do realize I'm doing this for a lot more than just money. From my point of view, there are too many rules and too many corrupt leaders for me to do things within the system. Thats why I made this merc band. We work for people who cant fight for themselves. We just happened to get paid for it." he said. "You can have your reasons, but at least respect mine."

..::Hackett to Ian::..

"Killing a shitload of people with extreme prejudice. Make sure you hit the right targets and save the innocents. I dont want to spill anymore blood then there has to." he said, putting his feet back on the ground and sitting up. He set his forearms on the table. "The point of this is to do good for Lylat. Not just make money."

..::Hackett to Doc::..

He smiled at the reaction, paying him a decent sum in advance. "Double your previous rates for incentive." he said. "I'll meet you on the Executor. Docking Bay 4." he said, turning to walk to the ports.

   Ansam noticed the suit again as he approached the ship with Star, standing near the boarding ramp. He stood there like he was waiting for something while puffing on a pipe that made him stick out from the rest of them. At the back of Ansam's mind something told him he was waiting for something else, so he tried not engaging in a conversation. He passed him completely going up the ramp into the Executor without saying a word.

Ian leans forward, palming his chin as he reaches to remove his cigar.

"Very admirable" He says, letting out a stream of smoke to waft above the two of them. "As long as your money is good, your morality is my morality. And my gun is your gun."

Ian returns his cigar to his mouth and holds a hand out for Hackett to shake. "If you pay for ammunition, food and boarding, and the traditional entry fee, that is."

She nodded.  What did she care what reasons he had.  She'd worked for many horrible causes, and not many good causes.  What they were doing did not concern her so much as the way they go about it, and the price tag.  Besides, if this could get her in a relatively decent position with the authorities, maybe she can get a few citations cleared up.  "I can see where you're coming from.  A noble cause indeed."
