As you can tell from this tweet, if you already own or are planning to own the Premium Version of Steel Diver: Sub Wars prior to June 19, 2014, you will get the new downloadable submarine - Star Fox's own Blue Marine - for free!

As of writing, Update 2.0 is currently available for Japanese and PAL Nintendo 3DS consoles. Nintendo of America has yet to issue anything regarding Update 2.0, and North America Nintendo 3DS owners may have to wait a little longer for the update, or this free DLC submarine offer if it is going to be available.

By the way, keep in mind that, despite this inclusion, >Steel Diver is not part of the Star Fox universe.

No joke. The idea of a new Star Fox game is exciting. The idea that it could have the Blue Marine in it is THRILLING.

I'm gonna post the screenshot in here just because

That's it. I'm going to go buy this game. I was already kind of interested from the demo, but now there's no doubt. I have to buy it.

No joke the screenshot of the Blue Marine looks SWEET! I mean really compared to this thing:

(ignoring graphical capabilities of course)

I played with it last night.

It is really fast, but it has lower health so it can't take many hits. Crew of 4. Only a 4 torpedo load, but the reload is crazy fast. You can't fire at the rate you can in SF64 but I never felt screwed by needing a reload like I did in other subs. I can dodge enemy torpedoes much easier in this thing.

Also, it is paintable if you unlock paint schemes.

It doesn't look too out-of-place. They modified it slightly to match the game's art style.

Now all the game needs are crew members based on the Star Fox team to man it.

Seriously, though. Putting Peppy in as the premium salesman pretty much obligated them to put the Blue Marine in the game. It really doesn't surprise me that they added it.

Nintendo of America FINALLY makes an official announcement of the Update 2.0 and the free Blue Marine DLC on their own official Twitter page:

Of course, many people already figured it out prior to this that both update and DLC offer were long available apparently. Nintendo of America did not even have the courtesy to post a proper screenshot of the in-game Blue Marine either.

By the way, in case you haven't heard already, on August 6, 2014, Nintendo released Update 3.0 of Steel Diver: Sub Wars globally. If you originally failed to get the Premium Version during the old promotional period, and you're still playing the Free Version, with the release of Update 3.0 now Free Version users can access the online submarine shop, previously only available to Premium Version users, and could purchase the Blue Marine DLC submarine for merely $0.99 / â‚¬0.99 / £0.89!

That's all fine and dandy, but the question is... can it do a barrel roll?
