Starfox: Event Horizon

The Undying Nephalim

FS2Open engine wasn't a good fit for a Starfox game

Did we forgot about nearly all the All Range Mode levels in Starfox 64? Freespace 2 plays essentially like Katina and Sector Z with better features and a Z axis.

Zeram Cruisers are ready for battle:

That level of bloom just simply seems too much. You can barely see what's going on in some of the pictures, and even Freespace never had that much.

I have not messed with bloom at all, I didn't even know it was possible. As far as I know it's using the default bloom settings of Freespace 2.

The debating stops here. That is enough, and it's darn rude of you guys to derail this topic. Further debating will result in a warning.

If i remember, Shadow of Lylat was planning to make some cruiser playable, it will also be the case in Event Horizon?

Yes, larger multi crew ships with turrets will be playable. I don't think big cruisers or battleships will be though because of how slow they are.

Nice.

It may be interesting in multiplayer large scale battle if and only if there are only a few players in battleship and all the other players in bomber and fighter.

Freeworld Tide of War (a Star Wars fan game sandbox MMO for Freelancer) let the player able to craft and fly a capital ship, but they are so expensive to produce that only the elite faction members are allowed to have a capital ship (because the resources to produce them are taken from the bank faction) and therefore, it gives a major role to bomber pilot and therefore also the interceptor pilots.

I know Event Horizon is not a MMO, it's just a exemple.

In case you are curious about Freeworld...

Yes, all the ships in the video are player ship

The mod is in open beta and can be downloaded from the official forums of Freeworld: ToW http://www.freeworldstidesofwar.com/

As a mod, you need the original game Freelancer, and remember that is a MMO so online play only (no offline).

Realy nice, but I have a question about the speed control of our ship.

Is it possible to control the power to the engine for example totally cut off the propulsion or reduce our speed to improve the turn rate?

Yes it's possible to reduce power to the engines. Some craft can even glide (keep moving in the same direction but turn to face a target.) Fay's ship is the slowest craft in the game though, it's pretty much a tank in space.

I guess it will depend on the mass of the ship and the inertial pull of its engine.

It's a heavy gunship according to your website, heavy firepower is always associated with a low speed, maneuverability and mostly with a heavy shield / hull plating, so it's normal.

Only the strike fighter class (also called heavy fighter or escort fighter in most of the Sci-Fi canon, the E-wing fighter is the most common exemple) may have a firepower able to harass most of the capital ship, while being able to fight the other fighter, except for the interceptor class that completely outperforms the heavy fighter in dog-fighting.

You work incredibly fast for a solo project, even if you already have some of the asset, it's still impressive.

This new gameplay video is realy good, i would like to see the interceptor gameplay for next time if possible please, for a comparison with the previous two ships (Fay and Fox).

The only small complaint I see for now, is that the Arwing X-03 seems to be realy too slow and a bit too agile (and that why i would like to see how fly your interceptor).

A forum, eh? I'll be sure to sign up. Might be interesting to see what some of the viewers outside the forum have to say about the game.

Miyu gameplay coming right up:

This is so f**king dynamic, i really love it.

The afterburn of the Arwing Interceptor look good and the maneuverability really looks perfect for a interceptor class.

But same for the Arwing X-03, the max speed (without the afterburn) should perhaps be boosted a bit but it's hard to tell with just a video to get an opinion, it will be easier when the beta will be there.

This has certainly come a long way since I last visited this thread, and no doubt required an extensive amount of effort and hard work. Congratulations on making this progress!

Wow, I haven't touched FSOpen stuff since the Shadows of Lylat days. Let's see if I can remember how all of this works.

I'm pretty sure my ancient version of it won't work, so I'm upgrading. I don't remember this nice installer for SFOpen. Nice to see that.
