Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.

It is with great sadness that I must announce that I will not be renewing the gameserver when the current period runs out, which happens on Jul. 4.

I don't want to do this, but valve's changes to quickplay plus our own decrease and, more importantly, my financial situation make it so that I can no longer pay for this.

If someone else wants to setup an unofficial server, I will continue to play, but I can no longer shoulder the cost.

Please do not donate to the gameserver. I do not want you to lose your money.

I will also be moving the website over to AWS in the next month or so to reduce the costs of running the site. I will accept Dreamhost donations as an extra month to make sure the AWS server is setup properly would help a ton.

The server is going down, but we shouldn't let it go down without a bon-voyage.

I'm talking like RTD, custom maps, pretty colors and banners up the yes.

Literally break the server like we did with the chat. There won't be any survivors.

I agree with the above.

I really got to know most of y'all through the game server, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. I am greatly saddened by its loss, but I understand the reasoning.

DZ, thanks for keeping it up as long as you have, its been a blast, and maybe someday we can bring it back.

Dude, thanks for keeping it going as long as you have. Sorry my obnoxious presence has been completely unavailible for the past couple months due to work.

I still look forward to gaming with many of you in small groups. Let me know if you guys want to play something, since I should be good to host all summer.

I want to bring it back someday. Maybe someday I'll be able to move into a house and get a business-class internet connection. Self-hosting FTW.

old_snake_salute_by_foxhoundfan-d69xiyc.

I was there at the beginning.

I was sadly not there for the end.

But all the same, this old TF2 vet's heart goes out to the many weekends played on SF-O's server. Literally some of the happiest times of my short life.

Of the few times i played it's been awesome in contrast when not playing on it. All i can say it's Thank you for maintaining the server for as long as you have DZ.

Maybe one day it'll be possible to have it once more.

This, this was me in my beginnings of TF2

After one-and-a-half seasons wandering the UGC scene

Game Nights here on SF-O were the reason I got into TF2 in the first place.

Getting onto Steam from that has put me into a whole new world of the internet.

//Without SF-O, I probably wouldn't be playing competitive TF2, or be on Steam.

May we be united once more, all you glorious bastards.

Thank you for continuing to run it, even through times where we had no meets at all.

EDIT: DZ, do I at least get to reach 1000 kills before the server goes down?

Crap.. Really? Damn, It feels like yesterday when ideas for a server started to float around. I'll admit, I'd deffinitely miss alot of the heated moments we've had over the years, but there are always options for alternatives. Don't hold your breath on it, but I have been thinking of giving dedicated servers a try on my own build from time to time, just to see how it would work.

And I'm always impaired with terrible connection (if any) speeds, and never really got to fully enjoy a game night more than once or twice...

Oh well. Would like to have messed around a bit in the server...

Whatever. Expect a lagspiked missingno thing showing up in the goodbye-gamenight...

Holy shit I'm actually tearing up. I'm not sure about this.

I love you all you amazing, magnificent gaming bastards.

No one's saying we can't play together after this. I just can't pay for gameserver hosting anymore.

I still want to make those MK8 nights happen as I do not need to buy any servers for that.

And if when Star Fox Wii U comes out and there's a way to set-up game nights, you can bet your ass I'll do it.

EDIT: DZ, do I at least get to reach 1000 kills before the server goes down?

There are 5 scheduled game nights until the server goes down.

If that's the case, then I HAVE to jump on the server at some point before it gets taken
down. All this time and I never got a chance to go on it...

What does your server cost you a month?

~$70. It was a VPS.

I need to downsize, though. There are other things I'm having to give up, too. I need a new car and I can't afford one if I don't make some sacrifices.

If someone really wants to take this over, you can get a non-VPS TF2 server from the same host I used for ~$20/mo. http://www.nfoservers.com

I am making a backup of the server if someone wants it.

I'm running two minecraft servers currently, costs me about $20. If I had more $ I might be able to help, although I don't really know how to play TF2. Could always learn.

In future, I will have admin permissions on a server that would be used for competitive TF2. The server will probably only have 22 slots, but given our general turnout, that should be ok. The only problem is, we would likely scrim on SF-O's traditional meet times, so game nights would have to become weeknights.

Any particular reason why, given the usage of the server over the past several months, you actually needed a VPS?  I understand the benefits and drawbacks of vps vs dedicated vs shared, but in SFO's case it's not worth the added extra expense given our use.  Furthermore, VPS's are not best suited for FPS type games, it's better suited for things like Minecraft.

So chances are I might be late. I'll be at school to prepare for an essay on Monday and Tuesday but I'll try to leave early. I am NOT missing this!

And here I never experienced a SF-O TF2 night. I mainly play on a brony server, due to its large amount of players, wicked plugins, crits, and mostly college kids. No 12-year-olds on that server!

The Legion of ponies server. I am not a brony, yet I still enjoy the server, for some truly crazy shit happens on it.
