I suggest some practice with basic shapes, your proportions are pretty hit and miss as is,

I'd also like to see some more original characters, I liked your older pieces from when you were creative with your work...

Although I have to admit you really are dedicated to your drawings, they're a little thin on inspiration but there's a lot of them...

No offence, but I'd like to know how long you spend on each piece?

I think they're good.

I didn't say they were bad, they're very good I've seen much worse, But that's not the point the point is Infinity has the potential to be much better.

I spent hours drawing a triangle, then a circle, then a square, triangle, circle, square, triangle, circle, triangle, circle, square, triangle, circle, square, triangle, circle, square, triangle, circle, square, triangle, circle, square, triangle, circle, square, triangle, circle, square, triangle, circle, square, triangle, circle, square, triangle, circle, square, triangle, circle, square, triangle, circle, square, triangle, circle, square, and so on, and so forth.

After several tens of pages my drawing improved exponentially, it tought me to take my time(patience), and gave me insight into curves, corners, and lines... well I can't say I'm a really good artist now but I'm better then I used to be.

:nervous: ...You did? That's some intense stuff, man.

I'll have to keep that in mind if I ever want to get back into drawing.

Another thing about drawing is you have to keep at it, if take a break, or stop for a while it does a lot of damage...

I haven't drawn anything in the last 7 years. I got fed up because my style was terrible and I wasn't willing to put in the practice necessary to improve.

Yopu have interesting philosophies about art Leo, you made me ponder about it for several hours. I do agree with you on some aspects, but I don't on some others. I do take quite big breaks while I'm working on something. Chances are if you see my sketches I have made a lot of changes on the computer. I take time to reflect upon it and see what I need to or not to do. That method probabvly works with me better than other people, but I'm still learning.

I will think about that shapes excercise though.

I haven't drawn anything in the last 7 years. I got fed up because my style was terrible and I wasn't willing to put in the practice necessary to improve.

Well... take me for example.  I'd drawn here and there all the way up through every grade in school, but it never really amounted to much before I hit high school.  I had drawn for a little while during school last year before summer vacation (not this most recent summer, the one before)... and nothing real extravagant came out of it, though.  I KNEW my style sucked back then... and to tell you the truth, back then I was drawing Sonic the Hedgehog stuff.  So the switch from that to foxes was pretty drastic, because nothing was the same.  It was basically like starting from scratch.  So after a bit of inspiration (from other artists and this forum, as a matter of fact) I decided to devote most of that summer to drawing.

And let me tell you, if you put some effort into it, you can improve DRASTICALLY in a very short period of time.  Sure, after a 2 month summer vacation I still wasn't near perfect, but I was a hell of a lot closer than I had used to be.  Also, having some type of a reference picture helps a LOT.  I tended to use this one quite a bit... > This one... ;>.>

For example:

Before that summer I drew like this... and back then I knew it really wasn't that great. >  Drawn just before the summer before last

2 months later, right before I went back to school, I drew THIS. >  2 months later, right before school started again

So I still wasn't even close to being that great even at that point.  But the thing is, you just gotta devote some time to what you want to do to get better at it.  I've been drawing ever since then, which if you figure it out, it's only been about a year since I started... :?;  and look where I am now.  >  Click here  Click here too

It's all really a matter of how much you WANT to improve.  And don't sit there and think all of your drawings suck after you finish them, with that mindset you'll end up quitting before long.  For me it's better to draw something until I get it to the point where I'm satisfied with it, and it looks good to me.  And so maybe the anatomy was off, or this detail could have been better, and so on and so forth.  Well, that's just something you tweak to make better in the NEXT drawing.  Improvement isn't instant, and I don't think it should be.  If you take it gradually, you'll get better.  Sure, I improved in 2 months by a LOT, but I also kinda pushed myself pretty hard too.  Other than that I basically just break out the drawing book when class gets boring, which I find this year is going to be happening a lot.

I'm sure you can draw, Take... and I'm absolutely certain you can improve a LOT more than you already have, Infinity.  Take my little quote for example...

"Everyone can draw, the people that can't are the people that haven't tried long enough to find out they CAN."

Everyone has potential, it just has to be unlocked.  And the only way to find the key to that lock is to practice.

I think that's enough for now.  :P

Damn, what a motivator. :?

Sadly, the reality is that I don't have the time to devote. When it comes to art, I'm spreading myself thin as-is, and I'd rather stick to my writing and music, for which I've already got far more practice under my belt. But if I ever decide to pick up the pencil again...

Thanks for hijacking my thread XG:P, nah it's cool. Truth be told I have been hopefully improving a lot over the course of a year. I never really picked up the pencil until a year ago. I was starting to step out of playing checkers competitively and my college Internet connection sucked, so I could not play checkers online. Another thing that happened is I resigned my position as an admin at this one gaming site because I didn't like my boss and to cover up my own incompetence, but that's a story for later.

I had a habit of looking art sites and going through the art forums of Serebii, this led to my latest endeavor.

Let me say this much, I keep on running into disasters along my artist path. First of all on Serebii's art forum I ran into someone's art thread and I was partially inspired by them, but later it turned out that they traced and now I feel pretty cheated.

It doesn't help that I'm a checkers player either... Unlike other board games, you make one silly mistake and you will lose at the level that I play at. I constantly beat myself up on my mistakes, which I need to get over... somehow.

I got into comics quickly and I got into the Serebii comics' forum. I then quickly acquired several friends and got pretty eccentric about comic because it was pretty darn fun. However, I tend to rush into endeavors too quickly and I purchased a website for web comics. I met up with some of my old contacts and they hooked me up with a "friend" of theirs to help us with the website. We were happy and I had even setup advertisements (I reflect back on it and think I could've probably made a profit by now...), however, even though the person helping us with the site said they would do it for free, somehow they turned around and tore down the entire site... He demanded that we pay for his services, but we refused since he said he'd do it for free... so... that was the end of that... In the beginning of the year I started thinking of this amazing plot line, so amazing I wanted to wait until my art skills matured to do it. I have been waiting for nine or so months and it's driving me nuts that I haven't matured enough yet. I also wanted to have some other comic out by now particularly a Krystal one, but alas I lack the motivation. I am constantly surrounded by artists that are way better than me... It infuriates me some more that I am not on their level, although I know it takes time... and I hate waiting month after month of just waiting to get better. It drains and encourages my desire to draw because of how good they are. Another thing that throws a wrench into my plans is the drama that is on Serebii Forums' comic sub-forum... I have helped with the availability of many resources that aspiring comic makers could use to create better comics. I do say that being there for a year and seeing comics of lesser quality produced constantly makes me very bitter when I have helped create so many resources.... So many people go there... it is a forum just asking for some amazing comic maker to take their breath away. There is a bit more, but I've rattled on lone enough.

I haven't been drawing much as I should... Every time I draw now Krystal's head becomes too squarish, muzzles throw me way off, and I keep running into amazing artists that have been drawing since they were a fetus. However, I'm still trying to get along, but my motivation runs pretty dry. And yes, my sketches do usually come out that rough when I first scan them in. I can spend up to ten hours just fixing the line art and I tell ya, I'm not looking forward to fixing this one. At least the coloring won't take too long...

Stuff I need to do with this pic:

Add more and accurate wrinkles

Make Rosemary's hair go to the left a little as well for an extra touch

Massive cleanup

Fix the eyes

Fix the breasts

Make the pillow more floofy

Fix the dress

Fix the hair

Vectoring it several times...

Yada yada...

Not looking forward to it, but it'll be done this week, hopefully.

Whoa...

You've gotten LOADS better since the last thing I saw of yours... just... wow.  BIG improvement.  :}

You do awesome with the cartoonish look, and the shading technique you use really complements that, because you don't gradually shade, you just do the areas of different color thing (if it has a name, i'm not sure).

Keep going!

The term is cel-shading, XG.  =D

I said you shouldn't scrap this since it's one of your best works, man.  It's good to know I'm not the only one who thinks that.
