I can't see ambient ads actually appealing to the game's target audience, and most of the same target audience probably uses AdBlock on Facebook :P

 

A viral marketing campaign might work since that is a thing that is actually appealing and effective with the scifi crowd.

Having an active and interactive Facebook page or Twitter account would be cool, plenty of gaming company run contests through those all the time.
