geoprimedonna
Just a question that came up on my head: who remembers the Dreamcast's failure? Can the same happen to Nintendo? Is there a way out or something? Let's just see what will come up... As for where I took it, thank SF-O Cast!
DZComposer
No. Nintendo of 2014 is not Sega of 1998.Sega was already mortally financially wounded before the Dreamcast launched. It was the 32X and the Saturn that killed Sega, not the Dreamcast. Sega was already on its deathbed when the Dreamcast launched.Despite recent losses, Nintendo still has enough cash-on-hand and highly-liquid assets that they can easily support the Wii U for its intended lifecycle.Plus, Wii U sales are starting to trend upwards. Hyrule Warriors has already proven to be a system-seller in Japan in only a couple of days. I'm starting to think that Nintendo may break-even or even turn a small profit on the Wii U when all is said and done. Now, that doesn't mean that Nintendo doesn't need to make some changes. If anything, Wii U has proven that their current strategy is not sustainable. It's just that they have a long way to fall before they hit bottom, meaning there is time to turn the ship onto a more profitable course. When the layoffs and real estate sales happen, then we can talk about "Nintendoom." Until then, there is no "there" there.
