Giladen
Sure, its visuals are dated. But all in all, I say that the game is structured better than any of the games after it, which shows in its difficulty compared to every SF game after it. For example, Miyamoto and Co. didn't do a good job designing 64's enemies to account for the Arwing being able to do somersaults and charge shots. Patch93
It's definitely my favorite in the series, but I wouldn't call it better than SF64, at least from an objective point of view. The only reasons why I didn't like SF64 quite as much (though I still love it and it's one of my favorite N64 games) were because the difficulty felt a bit unbalanced (Too easy on Normal, and cheap at times on Expert), and I found the SNES game's soundtrack, atmosphere, gimmicks, level design and the faster paced arcade-like feel to be more appealing. Plus I didn't have to deal with those boring All-Range mode missions. While I love the SNES game, I cannot deny the fact that the 3D models have not aged well. They may have been intriguing for their time, but do not hold up well by today's standards. Not only that, but the slowdown and controls can be jarring for many people and need some time to get used to, especially if they played SF64 before hand. However I will say that the 2D sprite art in both SNES games look great and have aged better than the muddy textures, mugshots and other 2D graphics in SF64. I can understand why most people prefer the N64 game. The 3D models, controls and physics were much more refined, the game offered more replayability with its branching routes and scoring system and is overall much easier to get into than the SNES game.
LazerMaster5
Maybe what we need is an HD remastering of the SNES Star Fox game. Hell, we need an HD collection of the Star Fox games, like Metal Gear Solid, Kingdom Hearts, or Silent Hill!
CrypticQuery
By the way, shouldn't this go into the Classic Star Fox section? You could make the argument that this thread is centered around which Star Fox game is each users' favorite, in addition to its focus on the SNES game. I think it works relatively well where it is now.

valkiriforce
The first is also my favorite; I just like the overall tone of surreal space travel that this one evokes. The soundtrack is also one of my all-time favorites when it comes to video games in general. I do love Star Fox 64 and enjoy the other games as well but the first one just has this "feel good" feeling behind it that really does it for me for some reason.
