Miyamoto producing Pikmin shorts, to premier at Tokyo Film Festival

A while ago, I remember reading about Nintendo dabbling in the movie buisiness. Seems like that project is bearing fruit in the form of Pikmin shorts.

The shorts are:

“The Night Juicer,” in which Captain Olimar makes his favorite juice

“Treasures in a Bottle,” in which Pikmin meet a strange treasure

“Occupational Hazards,” an adventure at a construction site.

Pikmin is an odd choice for this, but whatever.

I will still hope for some kind of Star Fox film or series. I mean, several series have gotten them:

Mario got a terrible movie and a cartoon series

Zelda got time in the Mario cartoons

Kirby got a pretty good anime

F-Zero also got an anime

Donkey Kong got a 3D animated series.

I mean, come on, F-Zero got one but Star Fox didn't...

THISISSOCUTEI'MGONNACRY THANK YOU BASED MIYAMOTO

also for an experimental series of shorts Pikmin is a more ideal subject than Star Fox, since Star Fox has a stricter narrative and more complex backstory/worldbuilding, this looks like it's just gonna be a series of Pikmin doing cute things with minimal dialogue. However, I wonder what they mean by "experimental"; this might just be the first thing out the door for the Nintendo film projects (or second? I forget who was responsible for the Animal Crossing OVA)

They'd been talking about this forever, and I was really confused

I was led to believe that the shorts that were being made were going to go along with the release of Pikmin 3

then Pikmin 3 came out with a couple of hidden little animatics, which made me believe thats what the reports were on

and now this...

Color me blue impressed

DZ, Sammy and Ness didn't get a series either. Metroid and MOTHER/EarthBound also have great stories and characters... Oh well, I guess by now, they are playing cards with Fox in the Retirement and Abandoned Games Room... :P

Metroid actually had a movie in production for several years that wound up in production hell:

The reason it was never released is because Nintendo wasn't comfortable with Samus's backstory being fleshed out that way.

...So they made Other M instead negativeman-55f.png

As for Earthbound, I think it's a combination of it being an old series that for all intents and purposes concluded in a natural way, and being in a weird second-party ownership territory (I think).

Also,

Oh well, I guess by now, they are playing cards with Fox in the Retirement and Abandoned Games Room...

Who's the shady government org running around deleting people's memories of E3?

I'm now envisioning a Star Fox movie with classic Star Wars trilogy-style model ships combined with muppets in the cockpits.

Nah. I see the whole crew on a TV show which is what you get when you mix Pokémon with Star Wars with South Park with SpongeBob... Yeah... :hehe:
