TCPeppyTc
Why was James hanging out on venom? and why didn't he join fox and the team once they both got out of there?
Vy'drach
Because he wasn't actually there... It's heavily implied that it was just a vision of James that Fox is seeing, and when they escape and his father is missing and Fox says that everything is fine it's his coming to terms with the death of his father finally.

TCPeppyTc
Pity that... When I was a kid I thought maybe it was because James survived. I wondered why he didn't go with you until I was about 15..
Robert Monroe
Well in the SNES comic he ascended to a higher plane of existance. James McCloud does as James McCloud wants yo

Arminius H O Fiddywinks
Maybe he was Fox's spirit animal.
DZComposer
The whole James McCloud thing is a huge mystery. Some sources heavily imply he's dead, other speak only of him "disappearing."I tend to think he's dead, but the canon is not clear on the matter. My reasoning is whenever he shows up, only Fox seems to see him.
Drasiana
Which sources mention him as "disappearing"? I forget which ones did that. I'm mostly wondering if him "disappearing" was just a bit of censorship in the translations. He's definitely pretty dead. Basically what Vydrach said about how James's appearance is symbolic of Fox overcoming his death and taking his place as the leader of Star Fox. Like Simba.
DZComposer
I remember reading about that in something Japanese, which one slips my mind. Also, the German SF64 comic (which is not canon, I know) also uses the word "disappearance" and when Peppy talks to Slippy about it he says that he "hopes he can see Jimmy again some day."But, like I said, even though it is not clear, I think there is more canonical evidence for him being dead.

Patch93
Yeah Dras and DZ are right in saying that James is dead. Here's a translation of text from the Japanese SF64 manual. "Andorf set a trap for James and Peppy, from which James did not survive. Peppy barely got out alive. He returned to his homeworld of PahPeh Toon to tell James' son, Fox, of his father's tragic end." http://www.ign.com/articles/1997/05/14/starfox-64-manual-translation-pt1 He is still alive in the SNES canon however, albeit in a different dimension. I suppose that's one of the reasons why I prefer that canon.
