Is Arwing Landing still an active forum?

Deleted

Question

I'm really new here, but I've read that until a few years ago Arwing Landing was comparably active to SF-O. I saw the domain had expired recently (October 30th this year, I believe). After looking at it again by chance just now, however, it was back up. Last time I checked, the only posts to the site were by spambots, though.

If there aren't any plans to make those forums active again, I'm not sure why the site would be kept up. Does anyone know if someone could be trying to make the forums there active again? Mostly, I'm just curious as to that site's status.

I'm a mod there, it's basically dead and I'm actually surprised to see it's been renewed since its expiration the other day. The admin's busy with a Real Life and Job so I really don't know why he keeps it around anymore.

Even if we got more people to post there it's become so cluttered with spambots that it would be a bit of a headache. Banning them does nothing, it's like a hydra, you boot one spambot and 580 more show up in its place. I think the entire forum system needs to be upgraded, it's running on pretty ancient systems.

Most of us who were active on aL just migrated over here at some point.

The only things I can think of are either that someone is keeping the site up for archive purposes, or they hope to somehow revive it. I don't know how much time and effort it takes to keep renewing the domain, but it looks like someone still has some interest in it. I've never run a website, though, so all all I can do is guess as to what's happening behind the scenes.

I'll have to ask Stealth about it. He probably renewed it just out of force of habit.

arwing landing is a spectacular experiment in spambot intelligence and interaction. the forum is populated entirely by spambots, yes--but the spambots have built their own little rudimentary society out of the scraps of a once more or less vibrant online community. it is breathtaking to behold.
