Mechanical changes SF can learn from other series.

I'm sure we can all agree that SF needs to brought up to date. But with what?

 

I suggest looking to the Rogue Squadron series. RS2 added a tactics menu that let players form up their squadrons or set targets for their squadrons such as laser turrets.

If there are on-foot segments, a standardized dual analog stick control layout would probably be beneficial.  Assault's segments became much more playable when the aforementioned control scheme was selected.

How about seamless transitions between on-foot and flight sections? Maybe we can have kind of a SW BF2 approach in terms of big battles with spaceships and space stations to destroy from the inside.
