How to take away music from a sound.

geoprimedonna

Question

Does anybody know how to remove music from a sound, specifically talking about (yet again) about Starfox 2's character chatter? If so, teach me how, or, if it's hard, do it for me. :)

It's possible, you just need to disable the SPC700's other channels through an emulator. IIRC, the character chatter plays on the fourth channel, so disable everything except for that and you should be able to separate it from the music and other sound effects.

Also, if you need it, the beta rom does have a sound test. If you're using the patched version you can access it through pressing start on the title screen, selecting mission, then going back by pressing X, then press up and press start. That will take you to a debug room where you can play all the music and sound effects in the game. You can use "PORT3" to browse through all the game's SFX.

Ok, tried that, but I never found the chatter. But that was already a big help. :) So, I only enable channel 4? Will try that! Its for project SFXL.

Yes, make sure only Channel 4 is enabled. Are you using snes9x or zsnes?

If you can record stereo mix on your computer with a program such as Audacity, you should be able to get the sound that way.

If you don't have stereo mix, you can try updating your sound card's drivers. If you have a Realtek audio chip which are commonly integrated into motherboards on pre-built computers sold at retail, you can try going to Realtek's website and downloading and installing the updated drivers there.

If you're still having trouble, I can send you voice clips of the characters speaking using Dropbox through a private message.
