Ori
Old topic fell into abandonment and disrepair a second time. And even my loose necroposting ethics have limits. You all know the drill: Any personal theories and things that otherwise would not fit anywhere, not even in the Speculation and Ideas thread may go here for others to see and discuss out in the open. Or if you just feel like you have a load of ideas but have no place to use them in. Some of mine ahead: - Lylat economy and politics are run through a semi-independent 'state' for each planet in a system-wide coalition, though the laws and rights are almost the same throughout them without an established leadership for the system. Corneria is just historically, economically and industrially powerful, thus highly influential (think just as Osean Federation or USEA are in Ace Combat world). - Corneria and Aquas are Lylat's two main hub worlds. (Seaborne construction = easier?) - Lylat's intelligent species mainly (yet not totally) originated from Corneria. Its generally terran climate created environmental conditions that harbored a wide range of species. - Despite tight regulations, merc teams (officially labelled as PMCs) are commonly found across the system. - Fox's red scarf is a family heirloom, originally passed down from a hero-ish figure of the McCloud family. - - Piloting is sort of a tradition in the family as well. - James' vision is augmented. - Solar is a "brown dwarf"-category celestial body. - Andross, before descending to madness and world-domination tactics, was an otherwise genius scientist, although with questionable research and experimentation ethics. - Fara has a preference to 'classic' projectile-based weapons (bullets). - Wolf prefers cold leadership over measures taken on the fly and putting his crew at risk, despite his reputation of ruthless merc. - Wolf never asked for his augments. - - "What a shame..." - Fay is an avid browser of Lylat's equivalent of internet, essentially being a weird blend between a geek and a merc. More to come, maybe. Post yours.
Drasiana
- Andross, before descending to madness and world-domination tactics, was an otherwise genius scientist, although with questionable research and experimentation ethics. I say that there's a canon, son :V Fay as a nerd is great though. She definitely has a Space-Youtube channel where she makes vlogs and probably tries to vlog in the middle of a space fight while Miyu yells at her
Dr. Orange
- Solar is a "brown dwarf"-category celestial body. Brown Dwarf or Red dwarf. It's not a planet. It shares more characteristics with a Star than a planet.
Arminius H O Fiddywinks
Brown Dwarf or Red dwarf. It's not a planet. It shares more characteristics with a Star than a planet. IMO it's a giant lava thing.
Dr. Orange
IMO it's a giant lava thing. No. Stop. You. It's called plasma, there is no "lava" on stars.
Scourge
I actually hadn't thought about it, but a brown dwarf would make more sense than either the planet or star arguments For those of you that don't know, a brown dwarf is a gas giant that has attained most of the mass and gravity and in in the process of starting fusion internally; it just isn't fully there yet EG: Its the bridge between a planet and a star This would also explain many of the surface features we see in the games, such as the large unexplained arcs we see in the background in 64 3D, likely being the planet's magnetic field going haywire as it makes the transition from planet-to-star Not to mention the temperature: 9000 degrees, as stated by Slippy was the limit for the Arwing's temperature. That entire level focuses on your shields depleting so logically, parts of Solar are passing that mark. 9000 degrees (lets assume it's Fahrenheit) would be excessively hot for a planet's surface, but would barely be warm enough to be your average star. Thats excluding your average Red Dwarf, which ranges from 2000-4000 Kelvin, which equates from about 3000-6000 Fahrenheit. This is negated however, by one of the games (pardon my ignorance, I've forgotten which) clearly stating that Solar is a planet Sorry Exec, Brown Dwarf fits best. This has been Scourge's Science Hour Stay nerdy everyone~
Dr. Orange
Sorry Exec, Brown Dwarf fits best. Hey, I was advocating for a star. And as long as it fits the theory I'm pleased. Did we say it's not a planet. Because it's not a planet. Not a planet.
Scourge
It's still technically a planet just working it's way up to being a star
Arminius H O Fiddywinks
You know what? It's a fucking mushroom. There.
Dr. Orange
It's still technically a planet just working it's way up to being a star Brown Dwarf are stars not planets. They may not be main sequence stars but given that they still have the ability to conduct fusion in any form (in this case Lithium and deuterium) it moves it from really heated gas giant to low mass star. Not planet.

Dr. Orange
Hey hey hey hey hey. This is the first logical debate I've had in a while you get the good ones you aren't going to jamble my Johnathans this time! $! $! $! $! Yeah, well it's the last logical debate you'll have in a while. *nods head* Mmm, yes, yes mm-hmm.
Ori
>tfw thread derailed Alright, as much as it's interesting to discuss the obscure nature of Solar, it's better fit on the >Accurate Lylat System Chart thread, so let's not derail this one too much. Some more random personal-or-not headcanon from yours truly: - Corneria has developed means of 'fast' warp travel (i.e.: higher spatial contraction with more energy, 1ly in the span of 10 hours as opposed to days or weeks), though no shielding against the radiation bleeding off the higher energies of such warp bubble. Those drives are used in unmanned survey probes that record locations for gateway openings such as the Orbital Gateway in Corneria. - The CDF has developed alternatives to conventional piloting systems, the most advanced being an electro-neuron synapse interface which requires surgically-grafted implants in the pilot, though this method is generally seen under a negative and taboo-like light. - Space Dynamics Inc. was originally the reason of a short family feud between the two founder brothers taken up to eleven with private contractors. The two were murdered under obscure circumstances and neither sides' contractor teams admit the attempt. After this, the former administrator, Yaru DuPont, has stepped forward into the role of CEO and bought the ownership rights to the corporation shortly after the Lylat Wars. - Due to rapid industrial growth, Corneria's climate changes eventually reached hazardous states. A joint project between scientists across the system involving oceanic iron seeding was constructed to stabilize the climatic conditions of the planet. - In his free time, Leon is a bird hunting enthusiast. - ...which in order to make this fact headcanon way less creepy there is the obligatory mention that Lylat biology has a strange variety among a few sentient species, and considerably different, non-sentient ones. - One of the events that led to Andross' banishment was an accusation of illegal reverse-engineering from Cornerian authorities, although he would actively insist that it was converging research. - When not trying to come off as badass, Miyu can be a huge tsundere.
