Your favorite hub worlds in games

Clearwater

So as the name of the thread suggests, what are your favorite hub worlds in any game?

Here's a top-3 list of my hubs:

No.3: Mos Eisley Cantina (Lego Star Wars 2 On PS2): Might not be the best hub, but it's freaking massive with a lot to do and see.
And there's also something funny about killing someone outside and causing a hub-wide riot, with everyone whipping out their
blasters and turning on each other.

No.2: The Summer Forest (Spyro 2 on PS1): I just love the warm feeling you get from finding every nook and cranny in this place.
Also, the brilliant ambiant music.

No.1: Rosalina's Comet Observatory (Super Mario Galaxy on Wii): I have only had the privilege to visit this place once. And I
instantly fell in love with everything about it. None more so than the beautiful music though.

Hub worlds?

Those little spaces to choose missions and shit?

Do games still do this?

Shit off the top of my mind, Crash Bandicoot: Time Warp had a pretty cool hub area.

Hengsha Island from Deus Ex: Human Revolution. It's dark and cyber n' shit. Lots of places to explore and definitely added to the game.

The Citadel from Mass Effect and ME2. Like Hengsha in space.

Coruscant from SWTOR. Huge.

And pretty much Skyrim in general.

Of course, after a fuckton mods.

+1 to Hengsha and Summer Forest. I was also partial to Lego Racers 2's hub world/overworld.

The Nexus - Demon's Souls

Place became interesting with the NPCs you got in there, you had the religious people on one side who didn't know that their "God" and the ultimate evil in the land was one and the same, and on the other side you had the magical "heretics" that knew that the "God" and the ultimate demon were one and the same. Mixed among them were other NPCs, including my favourite witch of them all, Yuria, who had an interesting take on witchcraft, basically it's not a good thing to learn actually, often times leading to being ostracized and  tries to dissuade you from learning them. And of course the Maiden in Black, who is the blind caretaker of the Nexus who aids you and let's you use the souls you've collected to strengthen yourself so you may face greater challenges, and can not be killed and if you do, she'll get up and apologize to you for not being able to be killed.

The Hunter's Dream - Bloodborne

Similar to The Nexus from Demon's Souls except that it is only inhabited by The Doll, a life-sized porcelain doll that was made to have nothing but love for the Hunters, creepy old-man Gehrman, the first hunter, who tells you everything there is free for your use, "Even the doll, if you like." and the messengers, little, deformed undead monstrosities that work as servants for the Hunters, relaying messages and working as merchants. The Doll is voiced by the same woman who did the Maiden in Black and serves the same role, and through the game you can enter the hidden area of the Hunter's Dream in the waking world, and find the inactive doll and a few things, including her brush that when you take it to the dream, she is overcome with an emotion she doesn't comprehend and asks you if it may be joy, which means the Doll may have once been a human soul. Bonus little Easter egg is that she'll react to gestures.

Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp - Psychonauts

This is just something you have to experience because it's Psychonauts that makes it so great.

What's that village called from Pac-Man world 2? Does it have a name? Either way, that.

Dalaran was one of my favorites back when it was a hub. I liked the music and how everything was all purple and magical 'n shet.

Favorite for me would have to be Gruntilda's Lair from Banjo-Kazooie. Loved that place as a kid cause it was like a world in itself.

Second would have to be Isle Delfino from Super Mario Sunshine.

Oh, jeez, I remember that game when I was younger. I would go play it, but the CD's too damn scratched. D:

My favorite hub world? I'd have to say that Thorntail Hollow is very nostalgic. I love many other games from Rareware so Isle of Hags from Banjo-Tooie is like another nostalgic place to me. It's like one of many places the characters in my story consider another home away from home. The DK Isle in Donkey Kong 64 is another good one. Everybody likes violent video games and I feel like a wuss  compared to them for picking out games made for kids. I don't like gory, violent video games, Ok? I hate looking at bloodshed and I don't even have a fear of blood.

Open world games don't count as having hub worlds.  A hub world is the "level" you're put into when you're choosing what missions you want to play.  So GTA, Saints Row, The Old Republic, and Just Cause 2 don't count.  The Normandy I guess could count as a hub world?  But it wouldn't be my first choice.

Regardless, my favorite hub worlds in no particular order are as follows.  The theater in Battleblock Theater, Delfino Plaza in Super Mario Sunshine, and Toki Toki City in Dragon Ball Xenoverse

Hub-center of activity: a place that is a center of activity or interest.

I thought they were the same thing.
