The FNAF Megathread

Clearwater

It came out on mobile today. I got jumpscared by Springtrap once, and Balloon Boy twice so far. It's pretty fun, in my opinion.

I'll throw my impressions of FNAF3 up here eventually.  Maybe after I recover from playing it, ha.

On another note, I found this while browsing some of the t-shirts available.  Those of you that have played a certain SNES game will recognize it.

I'm not gonna buy it just yet, seeing how it's 7 Euros on Steam, and I don't want to blow my money on just that. In the meantime, I'll shift my vid-making attention to FnaF 2.

Meh, horror games are not my type. However, Markiplier released a compilation video of his reactions between all 3 games. I really enjoyed it, and if I wasn't on mobile, I would share it.

That one was a great compilation, but he missed my favorite reaction of his from FNAF1;

Since this is now the FNAF thread as per my designation, here's a nice bit of news.  Regardless of what you think of the FNAF games, Scott Cawthon is a pretty awesome guy.

Even if you don't care for Five Nights at Freddy's, everyone can get behind creator Scott Cawthon donating nearly $250,000 to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital over the weekend.

As a not fan of FNaF, that video made me laugh.

Ugh, when Scott added that 4th star to the game, I became sad because I don't think it's on mobile.

MOM, GET THE LAPTOP! I NEED TO BEAT THE PC VERSION OF FNAF 3 SO I CAN BRAG!

With the release of FNAF3, quite a bit more was revealed about the overall lore and events that shape the game's plot.  The newest GameTheory video interprets the information that's out there relatively well; it offers one of the best explanations I've heard for the existence of Shadow Freddy and Bonnie, for example.  There are still a few open plotholes here and there, but it's quite comprehensive and worth a watch.

One of the plotholes that I noticed with the theory outlined below is that there has to be a restaurant in between the restaurant with Spring Bonnie and Freddy and the restaurant from FNAF2.  Regular Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy are already damaged in FNAF2, and it is stated that they were used previously.  Therefore, the restaurant depicted with only Spring Freddy and Spring Bonnie had to have come one step further backward in the timeline.

This is a pleasant surprise -  I look forward to seeing how plotlines are wrapped up if this is truly the last installment, and what spin on the gameplay Scott Cawthon presents next.  I wouldn't mind seeing the games ported to a 3D engine sometime further down the line on that note.

The quick pace of releases is not problem IMO; if you consider the FNAF games to be episodic in nature it doesn't really present any issue.  To think that a single developer has compiled all of them is still impressive to me though.

I've gone ahead and merged the two threads into a FNAF Megathread for organization's sake.

----

In regards to the actual teaser image (which I'll repost below since Scottgames is currently offline), I find this thing to be pretty fucking creepy.  It's got screws for claws and multiple heads implanted within its body; I can only wonder what other tricks it has up it's sleeve, or if there are more animatronics besides him/her/it.  Someone on the FNAF subreddit brightened the image (see the hidden section below the teaser image) and it says NIGHTMARE in all caps.  Could this be a gameplay mechanic or further information about the plot?  Or maybe it's representative of how Dr. Orange views continuations of the series?

I'm inclined to disagree with his point, if only because if you consider the games to be episodic the rapid release schedule does not really present an issue.  The games do not have a lengthy development process, don't require months of bug testing or focus group input, generally have no reason to have a more drawn out release schedule save for artificial delay, and are priced as if they were separate episodes to a single larger experience.

All of the games that have been released play well, have great artwork/sprites/models, and generally show quality work that's quite impressive at the hands of a single individual.  The fourth is slated for a Halloween 2015 release according to the teaser image; that's six months from now.  I believe that I read that the first game had around a six month development cycle, whereas two and three had around a four month turnaround.  Two was supposed to come out the following year from the first game, but there weren't any bugs and it was completed so Scott presumably decided to release it immediately.

Muh, I've only got a couple of views on those FnaF videos I did for OneUnder and the lads. I may as well post them here for you
all to enjoy:

Scott just put a new teaser image up on his site.  Is this image telling us that there are going to be nightmare-esque versions of the original four animatronics?  The one above appears to be Freddy, and this new image bears a resemblance to Bonnie.

Sanshee has more official merchandise in stock, and now they've got a Foxy plush available for preorder!  It's based off of the ones from FNAF2 that you can get on your desk if you play through the Custom Night presets.

And yes, I ordered one. It will go nicely along with the official pin set and tokens that I have.

That leaves Foxy as the only of the original four that hasn't had a teaser yet.  The subreddit has speculated that these teasers are on a nine to twelve day release schedule, as the others seemingly have followed it.

Hmm... I'm having some trouble trying to get my head around the timeline and events that happen in the FnaF series. For now,
this is the best timeline I can come up with that I can understand. (OneUnder, if any of the following is wrong, feel free to
edit this past and make it right):

1986: Fredbear's Family Diner is opened with Freddy, Chica, Bonnie and Foxy as the main animatronics and attractions. However, the
place is a big financial flop, and is shut down.

1987: Fredbear's Family Diner is reopened and renamed 'Freddy Fazbear's Pizza', the location being that of the one in the 2nd game.
It starts off on the right foot, but when someone steals a Golden Freddy outfit and murders children with it in what MAY be the
event known as 'The Bite of '87', the place is forced to close down again.

1988: Freddy Fazbear's Pizza reopens, this time using only the original Freddy, Chica, Bonnie and Foxy robots. When the security
guard who was finishing up his week shift disappears, the place is shut down. Again. What I THINK to be the person who killed the
5 children is haunted by their ghosts, and hides in a Springtrap costume, getting trapped inside it.

2018 (Well, FnaF 3 takes place 30 years after the events of the past FnaF's, so it makes sense that it takes place in 2018):
A group of scavangers begin to create a horror attraction based on the Freddy Fazbear's Pizza chain of restaurants, naming it
'Fazbear Fright'. They find Springtrap and bring him back to the location of the attraction. However, at the end of the week,
the place catches fire and burns down.
