The FNAF Megathread

You've got some good framework down, but there are a few discrepancies IMO.

Pre-1987:

[Earliest] Fredbear's Family Diner:  The only animatronic in existence at this time would appear to be Freddy.  It is most likely depicted in this minigame from FNAF2.

Freddy Fazbear's Pizza [First Location]: This restaurant contains both a Spring Freddy and a Spring Bonnie suit, and is owned by Fazbear Entertainment, whom presumably purchased the rights and/or intellectual properties possessed by the owner(s) of Fredbear's Family Diner.  This first location is likely depicted in this minigame from FNAF3.  After one of the springlock suits has a massive failure (either Spring Freddy or Spring Bonnie), as described by the phone guy on night 4 on FNAF3, replacements for the decommissioned spring suits are said to have been needed.  It is assumed that these replacement animatronics are Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy.  The contents of the FNAF3 Night 4 phone call are below.  The only thing off about this summary of events is that Phone Guy mentions that the springlock failures occurred at a "sister location".  How many more franchise locations were there?

FNAF3 - Night 4

Uh, hello? Hello, hello! Uh, there's been a slight change of company policy concerning use of the suits. Um, don't. After learning of an unfortunate incident at a sister location, involving multiple and simultaneous spring lock failures, the company has deemed the suits temporarily unfit for employees. Safety is our top priority at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, which is why the classic suits are being retired to an appropriate location, while being looked at by our technician. Until replacements arrive, you'll be expected to wear the temporary costumes provided to you. Keep in mind that they were found on very short notice, so questions about appropriateness/relevance should be deflected. I repeat, the classic suits are not to be touched, activated or worn. That being said, we are free of liability, do as you wish. As always, remember to smile; you are the face of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza.

1987:

FNAF2's Freddy Fazbear's Pizza: (We know that this restaurant is from '87 because the paychecks at the end of Night 5 and Night 6 say so.)  There is still debate as to whether or not the tapes describing the missing golden suit were recorded months earlier and speak about a different incident that occurred earlier in the timeline.  No one can be sure at this point, but I'd like to think that they were recorded very close to when you listen to them.   The tapes speak about moving the night guard to the day shift, for the last birthday party scheduled before the restaurant shuts down, at the end Night 6, and on the Custom Night the guard has a different name than the previous one (Jeremy Fitzgerald vs. Fritz Smith).  The Bite of '87 could have occurred at that party.  The culprit would likely be one of the toy animatronics; the "older models" (Regular Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy) would have been locked away in the Parts and Service backroom during the daytime.  The only way that the normal Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy models could be referred to as "older" models by the phone guy is if they existed before this location did, lending credence to the thought that they were the replacements found for the Spring Freddy and Spring Bonnie suits/animatronics mentioned earlier.  I'm still not entirely sure whether the golden suit mentioned here is Spring Freddy/Golden Freddy or Spring Bonnie/Springtrap.

Some amount of murders seem to have occurred at this location, judging by how distressed and disoriented the Night 5 and 6 phone calls are.  A previous employee may be the culprit. The animatronics begin to suffer malfunctions, potentially as a result from the killings somehow. These phone calls are also where we get the name for Fredbear's Family Diner.  They are linked to below.

The newspaper clipping at the end of Night 5 states that the owners want to open another location on a smaller budget.  The FNAF1 location is indeed smaller than the FNAF2 one, and in more disrepair.

FNAF2 - Night 5

Hello, hello? Hey, good job, night 5! Um, hey, um, keep a close eye on things tonight, ok? Um, from what I understand, the building is on lockdown, uh, no one is allowed in or out, y'know, especially concerning any...previous employees. Um, when we get it all sorted out, we may move you to the day shift, a position just became...available. Uh, we don't have a replacement for your shift yet, but we're working on it. Uh, we're going to try to contact the original restaurant owner. Uh, I think the name of the place was..."Fredbear's Family Diner" or something like that. It's been closed for years though, I doubt we'll be able to track anybody down. Well, just get through one more night! Uh, hang in there! Goodnight!

FNAF2 - Night 6

Hello? Hello...uh...what on earth are you doing there, uh didn’t you get the memo, uh, the place is closed down, uh, at least for a while. Someone used one of the suits. We had a spare in the back, a yellow one, someone used it...now none of them are acting right. Listen j-just finish your shift it’s safer than trying to leave in the middle of the night. Uh we have one more event scheduled for tomorrow, a birthday. You’ll be on day shift, wear your uniform, stay close to the animatronics, make sure they don’t hurt anyone okay, uh for now just make it through the night, uh when the place eventually opens again I’ll probably take the night shift myself. Okay, good night and good luck.

1993-ish:

FNAF1's Freddy Fazbear's Pizza: (We know this is '93-ish because the hours worked and wages received in the paychecks at the end of Night 5 and Night 6 roughly match up to the minimum wage for '94.  The minimum wage for '87 was also matched in FNAF2.)  This restaurant gets shut down due to health code violations and a lack of business stemming from the murders, as stated on the newspapers that appear on the wall occasionally during gameplay.  I'm not sure whether or not the murders mentioned in the newspaper clippings are the ones from the FNAF2 location or new ones from the FNAF1 location, but the former seems more likely.  This is likely the restaurant that we see depicted in the last minigame of FNAF3, where the purple guy is crushed by the Spring Bonnie suit, thus becoming Springtrap.  The regular animatronics have to be haunted/inhabited by the spirits at this point because, in the aforementioned minigame, as the purple man takes the animatronics apart, the spirits confront him at the end.

2023: If thirty years have passed since the events of FNAF1, then this would be the year that FNAF3 takes place.  Your summary of this one looks good.  It should be mentioned that it is implied that Springtrap may have survived the fire.  The newspaper clipping that describes the fire, when brightened, shows Springtrap in the background at the right.

Yeah, perhaps the fact that he survived the fire and that he's still alive (albeit only just) might be explain in FnaF 4...

^ This was the one that I was waiting for, and I am not disappointed!

Brightening the image will reveal OUT OF ORDER written inside of Foxy's muzzle, with the hook possibly acting as a question mark.  NIGHTMARE is written within his upper teeth as well.  When the photo is darkened, the numbers 8 and 7 are visible in the eyes.

Also, I expect the internet to take full advantage of that tongue.

New teaser. Looks like it has something to do with Shadow Freddy.

There's a reflection of teeth of some sort in the image when brightened.  Could it be Mangle?

There's also some speculation about text hidden in the image when it is brightened.

That said, THIS GON BE GOOD.

One time, I was helping out a 2nd grader with Autism in a CB Classroom. Because of my Star Fox obsession, I showed him a picture of Fox McCloud and said "Do ya know who this guy is?" and he said "Foxy the Pirate!!!" and I was like "Whaaaaat!? You know what FNAF is!?!?" and he said "Ya." and I was like "WTF" (Of course, I said it in my head considering he was just a 2nd grader). I asked him what his favorite animatronic was, and he said it was Chica. ._.

I never thought that I'd be able to use this GIF anywhere.

So went ahead and got the franchise pack for $10, because while I hate jump scares, and the internet and my own douchebaggery with "horror" games has rendered me unable to take this game seriously, I do enjoy me a good story and I've heard this game has one.

I was pleased to see that the franchise did hit a great pricepoint during this year's sale.  Do note that much of the overarching story is inherently cryptic, especially in the first game.  The second and third are a little more forthright in their telling of certain events, though some of the second game's story is only accessible once you die.  Once you play through the games you could read through my attempt at summarizing the events of the games at the top of this page if you'd like to.

I hate jumpscares as well, but there's something about the anticipation and heart-rate building suspense that comes with the frantic management of resources that is truly frightening.  It's not so much the two second jump scare itself, but rather than anticipation of it that gets you.

So I noticed in your Steam sig.

Also, One, I have no bloody idea where the hell you find the .GIFS that you find, but let me tell you this: I choked on my apple guffawing at that one you posted.

EDIT: So we got a teaser of Fredbear. If you look under the row of teeth on his belly, it looks like you can see a pair of eyes. If you brighten up the image, above them it reads "protect me." It also reads: "Or was it me?"

What if Fredbear caused the bite of '87? that would explain why we never heard of him in the other games. Plus, his the shape of his jaw seems capable of biting a chunk off someone's head.

Who would've thought that what appears to be a plushie could be so devious?  (Speaking of which, I'll throw up a picture of my Foxy plushie from Sanshee in the near future.)

He certainly didn't spare any expense.  The character models look especially good, and the animations appear to be significantly smoother than before.

So, I'm a little slow and just found out that the game is going to be released on August 8th, 2015 (less than a week before my birthday) for the one year anniversary for the FNaF series. The Halloween release date is supposedly going to be a big update to the game instead.

Well, this is great news. We don't have long to go before we can begin to start p*****g our pants again. I better nab myself a Steam Voucher when I can to buy this and start recording some vids.

FNAF4 now has its own Steam Store page.  It seems to have bypassed Greenlight this time, and with good reason.  The screenshots on the page are much higher quality than the trailer was,  that plush Springtrap-looking thing is terrifying, and the game comes in at over a gigabyte where the others were a little over one-hundred megabytes each.

FNAF4 is now available for purchase on Steam.  Evidently Scott finished the game early and didn't see any need to artificially delay its release any longer; he issued a statement through Steam.

Ok, so as many of you already know, I'm bad with release dates. The game is finished.

Enjoy!

GOOD LUCK.

Triple-post because this is important, dammit.

The animations are so much smoother than before, the character models look fantastic, and the ability of a character to have more  than one scare is great!

Also, why is that Foxy plushie missing its head?  That has to mean something.

So it has come to my attention that Crazy Boris Productions has done some Five Nights at Freddy's videos. Gotta watch 'em all through to the end. My personal favourite is 2, just like the games so far. Also, the Scrabble thing is now my canon.
