Gamecube w/ Screen: Official or Fake?

geoprimedonna

Question

I found this on a local Craiglist and I don't know if it's official, it does say it is rare, however...

So, bottom line: official?

It wasn't manufactured by Nintendo, so therefore it's not a first-party official peripheral.  It was a third-party peripheral since Intec made it.

Seems legit. Google brings me lots of evidence of it's existence. How much was the price?

I haven't been able to track down the MSRP anywhere; I don't recall it from when I saw them in stores/online back in the day either.  I want to say around $80, but it could've been more.

Most of the Gamecube screens were manufactured by a company named Intec if memory serves.  They were an aftermarket accessory available for the Gamecube, and were pretty cool IMO.

Hey, I remember that thing! They were trying to make the Gamecube portable, right?

$80 bucks sounds a bit crazy. I'm probably biased since I got my Gamecube at $15. But still, like save up for an old flat screen. Get like ... what a whole 2.75 feet difference for only like $30?

There are people who were born the year the Gamecube came out who, in some areas, are now able to be legally employed in order to afford their own Gamecubes off of Craigslist.

You want to know what makes you feel old? Seeing your little stepsister getting married and having a baby. THAT makes you feel old.

Kinda reminds me of this adapter-type thing we had that'd plug a Gamecube into the cigarette lighter in my mom's car so we could play Melée on the car-TV things on the backs of the front seats. It worked great for those long-ass vacations to New York or North Carolina, provided it was dark or the road was perfectly flat and straight. I'm guessing that this served the same basic purpose, although I can't imagine it would be too comfortable to use.

I remember doing this. But it was a shit 90's TV that was super glued to the back trunk door. And it was an Xbox 420.

I can't tell, but it looks like it's just mounted to it.

That's basically it. It hooks into the Audio/Visual inputs and clips on like a phone case.

That thing was called the Mobile Monitor, I saw it advertised in shop magazines and stuff a lot back when the GCN was in vogue. It was really expensive but cool for its time, at least conceptually. IDK how bad of a battery hog it would've been though,

Didn't it have its own A/C adapter?  Can you imagine how many double A batteries the thing would've taken to keep it on for more than an hour?

It was not an official Nintendo product. It was a 3rd-party accessory that allow you to play GCN in the car.

Is it worth a premium? I don't know. I wouldn't pay much for one myself as it is really a niche device. I would say it has little collector value if any.

Nothing special about GCN itself. I wouldn't pay more than like $20 over used market price for the GCN with the mobile monitor.

Only GCN stuff I would wager has high collector value are wavebird controllers and the Panasonic Q, which was the GCN/DVD Player combo unit sold in Japan.
