Art Learning Things

Arminius H O Fiddywinks

Question

Does anyone have any references or learning tips or something to help me become a better artist? I'm starting out and I want it to become a great hobby for me, but so far, my proportions are severely warped, my figures are stiff, and my figures' gestures are awkward. I'm taking art classes next year, but I don't think that they would be enough.

Just don't tell me to go to the library.

Art classes, Art related books, color theories, graphical studies, take community classes and do some self exploration. You say your anatomy structure is off, look up human anatomy or whatever animal related anatomy. Books are your friend.

Find what you like, what you enjoy drawing most and work from there. I've discovered time and time again I'm really bad at drawing anything not somewhat human.

As for proportions, the way I learned was making use of drawing mannicans and drawing based off people posing. Just ask a friend to make a pose, and draw the proportions. Generally start with a mannican form (Learning to draw the mannicans is important!), then slowly add your layers on top.

If you have a Nintendo (3)DS, then grab Art Academy. It'll help you get off on the right foot. :D

Well one piece of advice that i have found that has helped me immensely is, if you wanna get really good at something you have to 1) Focus on technique 2) set out your goals in front of you 3) Get constant and immediate feedback on your work. I hope this will help you.

I have tons of references that I can send you. Are you available on Skype?

Actually, I'm just gonna put off the whole art thing for a bit.

This was a silly thing to ask, sorry for troubling you all. Thanks for the help, though.
