So, were those things Aparoids?

There are a few weird Aparoid-looking things in some of the game footage. Initially I thought they were just generic spidery looking Venomian robots, but in the second phase of the Corneria level Caiman specifically refers to them as "bugs", and only lets them loose when he and his cronies have already gotten the hell out of dodge, implying that they're dangerous even to them. There's also a lot of fauna that appears to be biomechanical, which was sort of the Aparoids' schtick.

This time around they seem not to be invaders from outside Lylat, but a nasty species of creature that the Venomians have captured so they can sic them on their enemies, which is kind of cool.

If they are Aparoids I wonder if this means SFZ is going to find creative ways to re-incorporate elements from the previous games, so they aren't completely lost in the reboot, but rather tactfully re-integrated.

In all honesty, I think that's pretty cool/clever for Nintendo to drop a sprinkle of the Aparoids like that.

I've noticed those as well, they do look aparoid like, but it could be an old idea carried over from the SNES days since some of the enemies did look bug-like. But, hey. For all we know, they could be the aparoids.

Are you talking about that thing behind fox that were on the starfox 64 3D cover?

Naw, the four-legged spider-like enemies in the new game's Corneria stage. Go to about 7:00 in this video:

I think that'd be pretty awesome. I've been getting the feeling that SFZ will be a sort of Star Fox Anthology, with bits and parts of every game included, be it mechanics (the Walker and single pilot Star Wolf fights from Star Fox 2) or characters/enemies (the Aparoids).

You all know you want to fight a robot version of the Red Eye King with the Landmaster or Walker

I don't really get an aparoid vibe from those. Mainly from how bland they look. I think the designers of the aparoids made it a big deal design wise to make aparoids have a certain theme. Those walkers didn't have that feel and looks like something Andross would make.

But what Olcan said makes sense, that it coulda been an idea from the SNES days as it does look oddly polygonish considering its on an HD console.

The Aparoids didn't really look like much of anything other than polygons shoved together to form something vaguely buglike, which puts them right in line with the SNES creatures of yore :V

No matter the origin, weird polygonal bug things seem to be a series staple.
