Giladen
With how low the sales went, the dubious direction of the series, and Miyamoto having a habit of disregarding characters outside of his circle it's not surprising for this game to be a reboot. Just look at Mortal Kombat, another downwards franchise that was rebooted to success.

ArwingFan
I had a gut feeling this was going to be a reboot, thankfully it was.
Mecha-Katt
True. No sequel could have saved the mess this series was already in. A complete new start was the only logical choice one could make.
Dublinthefox
Hearing this kinda left me puzzled. Has Nintendo ever rebooted any of its other franchises? I'm only asking because I probably forgot some that might have been. Edited June 24, 2015 by Dublinfox
Dr. Orange
If it wasn't a reboot, it would be a train wreck.I am not surprised.

SF Redd
I was watching an interview in which a Nintendo rep said that it isn't a reboot, it is a re-imagining of 64, which makes me think that maybe Adventures and Assault are still canon, and Zero just replaces 64 in the timeline. Drasiana
I was watching an interview in which a Nintendo rep said that it isn't a rebootLink?I know they said it wasn't a remake or a sequel in the reveal trailer but so far the way they've talked about it has basically been "we don't want to call it a reboot but sshh it's a reboot". Giladen
He's not Miyamoto or any of Zero's developers. His claims can be disregarded as not knowing what he's talking about. Tip: "Reimagining" is another way of saying reboot. Edited June 25, 2015 by Giladen
psy_commando
Its about time they rebooted. I mean, at the point we were at, it was either that, or abandon the franchise, given they basically aged everyone so much after Command..But to be really honest, I still wonder if they would have needed to reboot now if they hadn't decided to reboot SF 1-2 SNES in the first place.. I mean, we're essentially getting what SF2 was going to be for its time.. about 20 years later.. What was the idea to reboot a decently successful new franchise after its first game, and before its second game was even out ? It's rebooted Starfox beforehence the similarities between 64 and Starfox SNES Not sure about other franchises Donkey Kong got rebooted too. For no apparent reasons, given there isn't really any real continuity, just like a mario game..
Drasiana
The guy didn't even sound sure of himself when he said it wasn't a reboot so uhIn either case "it's not a reboot, it's a re-imagining" sounds like producerspeak for "this is a reboot but we don't want to invoke the negative connotations that word inspires so"
