So, just a little earlier, YouTube channel GameXplain has released a new 25 minute video talking about the extensive analysis they did with all official Star Fox Zero footage from E3, ranging from the debut trailer, to the Nintendo Treehouse Live gameplay footage, to the developers' commentary. Check it out here in the following video embedded below, and discuss the things you may have potentially missed!

The resemblance to SF64 in this video is making me nervous.  To me SF64 is next to scum shite.  Not the SNES though.  That was brilliant especially with the music by Hajime Hirasawa.  Also, the way you have to destroy the most boring core I've ever seen twice, once on the ship invading Corneria and again on the final battleship in sector alpha just screams zZzZzZzZ to me.  SF64 only sold slightly more than the SNES b/c of the rumble pack gimmick.  Take that away and give them the shite game and gimmicky "3d" and voila, you get SF643D sales figure.  SNES SF was more than the SuperFX gimmick, and they have people like Hajime Hirasawa, Katsuya Eguchi, and Tsuyoshi Watanabe to thank for it, none of whom worked on crummy SF64...

The point he brought up with the colony on Titania got me curious to be honest. I was somehow thinking something similiar, though I thought it may be a different colony who either was already there but got destroyed or crashlanded from the planets orbit.

But different paths?! Didn't Miyamoto say, they don't want to do paths anymore? But different missions on each planet instead?

When and where did Miyamoto say anything specifically about not taking different paths anymore? I mean, it wouldn't even be a classical Star Fox trope without alternative mission routing.

It shouldn't sound like a fact, I was more wondering myself. I think he said something like this in one of the treehouse videos? Oh my..bad memory, I actually need to look for it myself again. Perhaps I misheard/misinterpreted it.

To me SF64 is next to scum shite.

The more I read this sentence the funnier it gets.  I don't agree with it, and I don't know if it's the phrasing or what, but it cracks me up.

---

Color me excited for Star Fox Zero.  I'm really digging the gyrocopter and Direct-i, and the gameplay looks like it's going to be great.  I discussed this in another topic previously, but one of the only complaints that I currently have is that the levels and worlds in general look empty.  If there's supposed to be a large scale war going on I'd like to see more evidence of that, in terms of background combat occurring.

I will say that some of what has been shown off thus far is very similar to SF64 for my tastes - it was a great game, but it's been remade once already and I'd like to see a different, albeit competent, direction explored.  Of course, that's my preliminary analysis without actually playing the game to see how pacing and general mission structure works, so I could be wrong in surmising that the similarities between the two will continue, but I digress.  Either way, a new Star Fox game, especially one that looks as fun as Zero, has to be counted as a win. :P

Hey Mr. Site Admin, I thought you know better.  Aren't you supposed to be able to see things other ppl can't like their IP/home country/town?  This SNES zealot from 15 yrs ago, srry I don't him/her.  As for me I never been on sf-o.net until just a couple of weeks ago.  And srry, I'm not AlGore'sLS either.  He hates both the N64 and SNES, thinks they're both the same.  I only hate SF64 for being a gimmicky SNES remake with no soul...

1: That was tounge-in-cheek. Just because I own the site doesn't mean I can't make jokes.

2: Knowing your IP address and the geolocation calculated from it doesn't tell me anything other than where your ISP hub is.

3: There was always a contingent of fans in the old days that felt SF1 was superior to SF64 and constantly talked about it being so. Most of them left then fandom when Star Fox Adventures came out as they saw it as a sign the series was heading further away from the SNES roots. There are very very very few of those people left, hence the living fossil joke.

4. I'm talking about the days before SF-O even existed. I don't know how long you've been in the fandom, but your time at SF-O doesn't say anything about that other than how long you've been here. People from the old fanbase do drop-in from time-to-time. If you're actually new to the fandom, congratulations on being the first new SNES zealot in the fanbase since like 2000.

5. I never accused you of being a sockpuppet, and if you were trust me your account would already have been banned.

I only hate SF64 for being a gimmicky SNES remake with no soul...

I don't know what I just read but I think I just lost a brain cell reading it.

Anyways, I think I missed that part in the first boss battle where you can destroy the boss from the inside back at E3.

THAT

IS

AWESOME!

That boss fight in the Space Armada level in SF was a neat concept and I only remember doing that in SF2 where you kill NEARLY EVERY SINGLE BOSS THAT WAY!

Next up, Titania.
I love it that Peppy's the one who got knocked there. Just shows how useless he is. Though in my opinion, the characters might change depending on your progress.

Sector Alpha is another level I'm hyped for. For one, you seem to work with the Cornerian army again which, might I add, is something I like. I like it when games in which you work alone like Star Fox and Zelda let you support the main army. Adds a nice touch. And also, entering an enemy ship to destroy it from the inside, still awesome. Though that part of the level looks more like it was taken from SF2.

If I'd had to make storyline guesses, I'd say that mission objectives affect the storyline like it subtly did in 64, except it affects the next level. You could POSSIBLY get a different planet. It might also affect the final battle and ending. I don't mind multiple endings based on your actions. If they do that, though, I think they'd have to make the other ones work around the main one. For example, the main ending is the one where Andross is defeated, everyone is alright, everything is back to normal while a different ending shows the Cornerian army decimated, some areas destroyed but still looking like they could rebuild and be back on their feet by next game (they might need to link both games together, though) and the non-canonical downer ending and possibly a WTF ending.

The one thing I hope they do is make it clear that James is either alive or dead. In 64, it was said that he died (literally by Pigma) but then he guides Fox out of the exploding base somehow? I just want it make clear this time. Possibly have a ghost help snap him out of a BSOD somehow and make it clear that he's gone. I mean, I know he's dead but that part got me confused for a while now and Assault and Command didn't help.

It's a funny day when the two resident fossils of SFO (me and DZ) are arguing with an even older fossil. Good god we have stared into the void so long it is staring back at us.

I never actually saw an SNES fanboy in person before - not to this degree. Dermot preferred the SNES game but he didn't hate SF64, and everything else I saw were like.... ancient mentions of an internet long past. Hue.

Lately there seems to be an influx of hate for 64 and Zero, but it mostly comes from Assault fanboys.

This is the first time I saw an SNES fan hating on SF64.

Were they somehow cloned? Are we looking at a Jurassic Park scenario there?

that weird influx is why i suspect it's just one guy sockpuppeting, or one guy finding the two or three other dudes who also hate SF64 the way ISIS hates everything from the 8th century on and dragged them here to Wage Holy War On The Decadent Western SFO

OH WELL LOLOLOL anyway if zero is a sign that star fox will go back to trying to be good at one thing rather than trying to do everything and sucking tortoise cloaca at all of them then i say good

If you're talking about age.  Not necessarily.   I only got my hands on SNES SF years after it was released.

First off....WHOA...WHOA...WHOA....Peppy is not a useless character at all. If SF was a story-driven game, you know for a fact they would make a big deal about how Peppy tries to be a father figure to Fox. That's a pretty big deal considering James is dead.

That brings me to the next point. I believe the consensus is that James in SF64 was either a ghost, or an image of him in Fox's mind which was supposed to represent that Fox finally believed in his own abilities and had shown a glimpse of his true potential...or something like that.

I agree that multiple endings would be good for the game purely from a replayability standpoint. I think the main thing to be careful about here though is to make the "true ending" blatantly obvious instead of the mess of a a couple WTF, multiple bad and multiple good endings. The main example from Command that confused people was the debate over whether the ending where Krystal leaves the team and joins SW or the ending where everything goes back to normal and nothing changed was the true ending.

@Hope(N Forever)

I found it!

Star Fox has also featured different paths through the galaxy. The upcoming title takes a more linear approach, using its variety of transformations as a hook to revisit completed areas.
"In terms of what you saw in Star Fox 64, with the actual map with the different planets and lots of different branches, this time it will be simpler, but more variety in terms of different missions on the same planet," Miyamoto says. "We want it to be that you can complete the course of the game in the same amount of time you would spend watching a movie, so it's a cinematic experience. While there are still some branching paths, the main thing we are focusing on is having second and third missions available for each planet."

Now that I read it again, does this mean there won't be a straight route system like in 64, but more like "only certain planets have different paths possibilities, while others don't"?!

That's cool. For some reason I'd thought it would just be a single linear story but multiple missions per planet is a fun approach.

They forgot to mention the fact that many of the ships on the space armada-esque mission were the same ships from 64. #nitpick
