FalconLover11
Shit's cool, right? I'm not the most versed in it, but I've played in a campaign or two. Mostly Pathfinder but I was raised to play it with 3.5 rulings for the most part. We also played with some of the prestige classes from 3.5 modified to Pathfinder's more, Strength-toned feel. Was pretty legit! Who else here does the Dragons and Dungeons? Would love to talk it up some. Bring on them tales of how you convince a friend to drink something he shouldn't, or simply how your Natural 1 turned out to be the best thing to ever happen. I am also aware it is 'Dungeons and Dragons', not Dragons and Dungeons. Pls no h8.
Arminius H O Fiddywinks
Erm....Stuff like this is meant to be in... The Arcade? Or The Lounge? I'm not sure where it should be, exactly, but I'll tell you one thing: I'm pretty sure this isn't supposed to be here. But, I'll just let a moderator clear up the confusion. FalconLover11
I see. Sorry, I guess technically that's right, isn't it? If this place is only for Discussion of Role Plays happening on this site. And I guess by other looks the Lounge works? Like ya said, sure. LET THE MODS DO THE WORK AMIRITE? Dr. Orange
To clarify, Talk about games goes in the Arcade. Rp's that people rp in go here.Naw but it's all good. Accidents happen n' shit. ---------------------------------------I tried DnD 3.5 with friends once. it was fun to name our characters vegetables and insisting "Paladin" was pronounced "Paula Deen." But game wise it wasn't to crazy and we went to PnP role plays.
Xortberg
Tabletop gaming is the shit. 3.5/PF is the only one I've had a chance to play, and as much as I love D&D I wanna do others. My current group does 3.5 with a variant system called Eclipse: The Codex Persona. It follows all of the 3.5 rules, but instead of picking classes we have a massive list of abilities and a certain number of points to custom-build our character. I do kinda miss the classes, but it's hella cool being able to make what you want.I've been reading the 5E book lately just because I'm curious, and it looks pretty cool too. Best change is definitely the fact that Paladins don't have to be Lawful Good. I love the idea of a LG paladin, but it's also a huge limit that I think is kinda dumb. It means that there can't be paladins for neutral or evil gods (though PF has the Antipaladin, but that still leaves neutral gods out) which I hate. Plus, it means that DMs can't try to stick pallies into no-win moral situations anymore to try and make them lose their powers.
Komenja
Man oh man do I love myself some tabletop gaming. I started out mostly on Shadowrun, Call of Cthulhu and some oddball stuff like Broncosaurus Rex (the setting is the US civil war, in space, with dinosaurs) but I've most recently been playing D&D 5th Edition with a bunch of friends. Can confirm; Paladins are very fun in 5E without the restrictions. Although my boring self is still mostly playing the standard carebear holy man, only difference being Neutral Good as opposed to Lawful Good. And being a half-orc.insisting "Paladin" was pronounced "Paula Deen." I... I have to pronounce it this way now.
hoo
Seems appropriate:I'm not much into the board game RP stuff or anything. I played one of the video games once for like, five minutes, and then never really played it again.
Xortberg
D&D video games really are nothing like the real deal. If you ever get a chance to play a short session or two with some friends, you should totally give it a shot. Of course, it depends on how good the DM is, but you can literally attempt to do anything in a tabletop game.If it's not your thing it's not your thing, and that's aight, but I feel like everyone should play some kind of tabletop game at least a couple times in their lives. Never played it, but hear it's a super big Point-Buy system styled game. Pali's are something I never get to play cause someone is already being a dick with a stick up their ass far too constantly for me to be one too. Not that I'd be that way. I just wanna be a dumbass Paladin who ends up falling for the bard's shenanigans to go lay with a lady of the night because "They need to be purified by the paladin! It's a holy rite, you know!" ...TLDR: I just want another reason to do stupid stuff. Man oh man do I love myself some tabletop gaming. I started out mostly on Shadowrun, Call of CthulhuThose two are pretty awesome from the experience I've gotten from them. I currently have a Shadowrun rule book laying around and it's pretty killer. Same with CoC. I remember earning 'Player of the week' award at some D&D con cause I was the most useful. That said, being the most useful while being a teen was mostly cause I was the only one who picked a psychic character by accident. Who knew? And being too lazy to quote more, yeah. The D&D video games are complete shit IMO. The whole love, for me at least, is the social experience first, and the customability one gets by simply being able to say, "So my ability to do lightning damage is just that. And these clockwork enemies don't have weaknesses to it. But they're standing in water and were turned on with electricity. Can I short circuit them or some shit?" That of course being an off the top of my head example. It's also totally killer cause you don't even need a board half the time really. Sure it makes it more fun for those super into combat tactics, but being able to have the whole scene play out in your head is pretty fuckin' bomb. Clearwater
I find it hard to get into some Dungeons & Dragons stuff, but currently, I'm playing Baldur's Gate with the core Ad&D rules. Such good fun. Also, remember the 'Choose your own Adventure' books released by Ian Livingstone in 2001 or thereabouts? I still play them to this day: Temple Of Terror, House Of Hell, Freeway Fighter, those sort of things.
LoneWolf
5th Edition is the shit.biz. Me and a group of buddies from my dorm get together weekly to play. As long as people are cooperative and you have a decent DM you can have a lot of fun. IRL D&D trumps Roll20 or anything else. Also it really helps to have dynamic characters that are interesting and varied, otherwise it'll get boring really fast.If you're considering starting playing, then I'd highly suggest starting with 5E. You can get a good start by just picking up the Player's Handbook and the Starter Box (roughly $50 combined depending on where you look). The premade characters inside the box are pretty overpowered but they're fun to play and you can certainly get a lot of mileage out of them. We played with mostly pregenerated characters for roughly 6 months before rolling our own.Biggest protip though, don't have just one chaotic evil guy in a group of good characters. It tends to complicate things.
