Elizabeth winced slightly as Sven bandaged her wounds one by one. However, she was taken aback when Sven started speaking in a Semnone accent. She turned her head slightly towards him. "That's a beautiful accent," she commented. Elizabeth then answered Sven's question concerning the bandage across her stomach.

"And ah, there's only a couple of bruises on my stomach. Not much damage there other than that." Elizabeth sighed, then posted a question to Sven. "Hey, do you wanna know what a Gallic accent sounds like?"

"Thanks," Sven said as he began to carefully wrap gauze around her back and stomach. "So what does a Gallic accent sound like?" He finished wrapping the bandage after a moment and tied it off on her left side. "That should help keep the bandages on your back held down, but I kept it loose enough so you can still move without too much difficulty."

"Thank you," said Elizabeth in a Gallic accent (Welsh-like). She moved around a bit, and content with her bandages, continued to speak with a Gallic accent. "This is what a Gallic accent sounds like. Although our language is still spoken in Gaul, and most of the signs are in both Gallic and Cornerian, most of us speak Cornerian, but retain the accent. We're proud of our heritage, and we won't let it go for anything." Elizabeth turned herself around, and now faced Sven, not minding the dirt that accumulate on her pants.

"It feels a bit strange talking with this accent," said Elizabeth, reverting to Cornerian. "My tongue feels like it's working a bit harder." She chuckled. "How's my face? Is it banged up bad?" Elizabeth held her head still, with the fire illuminating it, so that Sven could take a good look.

"You should all ways be proud of your heritage, and that is an equally beautiful accent." Sven started as he looked at her face, slowly and gently turning her head with his hands. "You're a little dinged up." he began, speaking carefully as to not risk upsetting her "It looks like they managed to black your left eye," he reached back and grabbed a quick clean wipe "your cheeks are a little cut up" he continued as he opened the small packet and removed the towel "and there is some blood on and around your mouth." Hesitantly he reached up and began to carefully clean the sides of her snout, the dried blood came up as he gently wiped the small towel across it a few times. After a moment he stopped and tossed the used wipe into the fire. "Other than that you look ok."

"Thanks, Sven," replied Elizabeth, upon hearing Sven's decent news concerning how she looked. "You don't look half-bad either, just a few dings." Her smooth, brown eyes reflected the fire's light, and the steam from her breaths started to become more apparent as the landscape became colder and colder with each passing minute. It could get very chilly out on the open Steppes. Elizabeth rubbed her arms, reacting to the plunging temperatures. "We should keep the fire going. It's getting really cold."

"Your welcome." Sven said as he pulled the gloves off and tossed them back into the plastic bag they came from. "Hey I have an idea" he started saying as he saw Elizabeth's breath, "We still have plenty of fuel for the fire, and there are a lot of embers." He stood up and walked to the other side of the fire where he started digging a pit 5 inches deep, 5 feet wide and 6 feet long. After a few moments he was done with the digging, the pile of dirt beside the hole. "I learned this back home." He explained as he used the lid to the metal pot to carefully scoop up embers and drop them into the pit. Once he had embers about an inch deep he recovered the hole with the dirt. Sitting down Sven patted the spot next to him. "The embers radiate heat throughout the night." he explained "So it should help keep us from freezing too much."

"That's a really good idea," said Elizabeth, observing Sven's hole. She sat down on the pile of dirt, and was surprised at how very warm it was. "Oh wow..." However, Elizabeth had developed a new problem: she was hungry.

"Man, I'm getting hungry," she said. "Hey Sven, that food we have, what exactly is it?"

Looking back over at the food he began to list them off. "It looks like we have some stew of some sort, some dried fruit, that candy,' Sven paused as the fire popped, "A few pieces of bread, I think a can of fruit, and a can without a label." He held up both of the cans. "You choose which one we open first." Sven said as he grabbed the small pot.

"Hmm..." pondered Elizabeth, going over the options in her mind. "Well, let's have some bread and stew. And let's see what's in that mystery can..." Elizabeth took the unlabeled can from Sven's hand and, using the tab on the top of the can, opened it. Peeling off the top of the can, Elizabeth spotted something wondrous. Her eyes widened as she began laughing. She put her hand in the can and took out a diamond! It gleamed as the light from the fire bounced off its shiny surface. Elizabeth's laughing was almost incessant.

"Why the f--k would you leave diamonds in a f--king unlabeled can in the back of a f--king hatchback?!" she questioned, still laughing.

Sven couldent help but join in the laughing when Elizabeth had pulled the diamond out of the can. After a moment he managed to stop laughing. "Ok"  he said after he caught his breath. Let's get that stew made." He opened the can and poured the contents into the pot. After placing it on the fire he turned his head twords Elizabeth. "So what do you want to talk about while we wait?"

Elizabeth thought about what they could talk about as they stared at the fire crackling in the sea of darkness that is the Steppes. Then, when she found a possible topic, she asked Sven a question.

"How was life in this mining colony of yours?"

Sven sat silently for a moment before he continued. "It wasent easy." He began " I was about 5 when both of my parents got killed by a gas explosion. So I wandered from house to house in the colony. Until an old man let me stay with him until I was old enough to work." He paused and rubbed his eyes. "He became my father in a way. I remember he said I could always do better for myself than to mine the earth all day."

"A romp?" Kimber asks. "What do you mean by that?"

Leaning back, he unholsters his 13 millimeter and pulls the slide back, keeping it there."Do you know what model this is?" Kimber asks him.

"Hm, that reminds me of someone..." Elizabeth stated. "Anyway, my childhood wasn't as bad as yours. In fact, I think it was the opposite of yours." Elizabeth laid down on her side, her head close to the fire, and she looked at Sven. She began to tell her tale.

"I'm a military brat. I was born and raised in a family that served Corneria for who knows how long. And we weren't poor folk, no sir. We were at the top of the hill: literally. You see, in Gaul, most communities, including fine Alesia, are set up on hills, because it's a hilly country. So, the rich and upper middle class people, which includes yours truly, live on the top of the hill. The middle class people lived on the middle part, as expected. Then, the poor people lived on the base of the hill. The really poor people lived in the valleys. Oh, my family lived in this big house where we had a butler named Virgil who was super tall. Everything smelled nice, and in the living room we had this big picture of the family: my parents, my brother, and me."

"You know," began Sandor, "going around town, meeting ladies..." Sandor nudged Kimber with his elbow, bouncing his eyebrows up and down. When Kimber pulled out his sidearm and placed it on the bar, Sandor rolled his eyes. "There's a time to shoot and a time to relax. Since nobody is shooting, that kinda narrows down our options."

"A Butler?" Sven began surprised. "Why did you enlist?" He looked down at her "So I can assume one of your parents was an officer." He paused and rubbed the back of his neck "I only made it to Lance corporal."

"Well," started Elizabeth, a bit embarrassed about flaunting her family, "my grandfather is a brigadier general in the Cornerian Army. I guess that's where most of our wealth and prestige came from. He was a pretty big war hero back in the Third Galactic War, and he rode that wave for a really long time." Elizabeth stirred slightly in her position before asking Sven a question.

"Hey... Do you have any siblings?"

"Meeting ladies isn't a skill I have, I mean look at me. I'm a psycho child soldier with no... Required parts. Next leisure option. Oh and it's a Venomian St3 sporting edition. Civilian model."

Kimber leans back and thinks. "What to do for a good time on a poor planet?"

"What about meeting men?" asked Sandor, then proceeding to laugh. "Oh, I am 50% serious," he said, out of breath, wiping a tear coming from his eye.

Kimber rolls back laughing, almost falling off of his chair. As he comes back up he says "No." with enthusiasm. "You lead the way on fun because I obviously don't know how to."

Sven was even more astonished by her reply. "A Brigadier General?" He paused and let it sink in for a moment. Laughing he said "He gets paid 12 times  more than I do in a day!" Sven took a moment to think before he awansered her question. "No, I don't have any siblings that I know of."

"Alright," said Sandor, looking around the room. In no time, he spotted a billiards table on the far side of the tavern. "Wanna play pool?" he asked, pointing at the table.

"You don't?" replied Elizabeth, surprised. "Well, be thankful. They drive you insane. I have a younger brother: his name is Steven. Oh, he wasn't very fond of me when we were younger. He still didn't like me even when we were fighting in the same army together. He always thought I was one-upping him in everything, that I was Miss High and Mighty, and he was left picking up the scraps. He envied me." Elizabeth looked at the fire momentarily, then turned back to see Sven. "At my husband's funeral, he came all dressed up in a formal major's uniform, with a medal on his breast, a cap on his head, and a Gallic war chief's sword on his belt. But he didn't rub it in my face or anything like that. I thought he would, but no. He just came up to me. I saluted him, because he was a superior officer. He saluted back, stuck around for the eulogy I gave, and gave his condolences. Then he left. Something in him changed, and I don't know what."

"I'm sorry to hear that." Sven said when he heard Elizabeth mention her husbands funeral. Wishing to change the subject he asked her a different question before one of them ended up depressed. "I've got a question for you if you don't mind me asking." He began as he leaned forward and stirred the stew. "Which do you prefer. Sweet or Spicy food?"

"Sure." Kimber says, getting up.

"Both, actually," replied Elizabeth. She sniffed the stew that was brewing in the can, and relished the scent. "Oh, that smells good. Can't wait to eat it. You know, I actually kind prefer both of those in a single dish: sweet and spicy food."

"Alright, alright, alright!" Sandor said gleefully as he jumped up from the stool. He threw down some credits to pay for his tab. The bartender nodded, and he grabbed the bills and put them in the register. Sandor walked across the half-empty tavern to the billiards table, where the balls were already racked up, and were waiting to be broken.

"I'm ok with spicy foods, but I loooove sweet food " Sven said smiling, "here be careful its hot." He said as pulled the pot from the fire using the tip of  his knife. "You eat first, I'll eat whatever is left." He set the pot closer to her and gave her the spoon. Sven then set about making a makeshift spoon from the lid to the can for him to eat with. "So what is it like? Being in the Black Guard and all." He asked Elizabeth as he carefully bent and shaped the tin lid into a spoon.
