That Ain't Falco
At some point, it's pretty safe to assume Pigma wasn't the literal meaning of traitorous swine. I mean, James trusted him well enough. Not a ton of substance to this post, but I think this is something that could be expanded upon. Personally, I blame the Aparoids. hoo
Wasn't Pigma a traitor because he abandoned the original Star Fox team and let them to Andross (where James was killed) for money?
Clearwater
Pigma then joined Star Wolf, which we all know by now that they're only petty pilots for hire to the highest bidder. Considering that they helped Star Fox in SF Assault, I personally think that we should consider Pigma as not pure evil, but just bad.
ArwingFan
Didn't he betrayed the team because of Andross's money, not because of the aparoids. It's also implied he took sadistic pleasure in Jame's death with quotes such as "Daddy screamed real good before he died!" In Assault, he left SW for reasons. He ran off with that DNA thing assuming it had monetary value, only to get assimilated later. In Command he was a cardboard box.
DZComposer
Pigma actually has some pretty deep development when you take information from the Japanese sources: Pigma betrayed Star Fox to work for Andross for money. Pigma designed the Wolfen Pigma and Andross worked together to recruit Wolf and Leon, possibly prior to Pigma handing his Star Fox teammates over. Pigma served as Andross liaison on Star Wolf, and despite Wolf being the official leader, Pigma was pulling his strings for Andross. It can be inferred that the reason Pigma was kicked-off of Star Wolf was because Wolf discovered that Pigma was manipulating him. Pigma attempted to manipulate the Aparoids. He chose... Poorly.

I mean, I don't blame him. If I knew I was working with someone who would gladly gank me for some easy cash, I'd probably do something about that. This makes me wonder why Leon was kept around, though. He's a sociopathic ex-assassin. Completely trustworthy. Also, somehow, the closest thing Wolf has to a friend. 5 minutes ago, DZComposer said: Pigma actually has some pretty deep development when you take information from the Japanese sources: Pigma betrayed Star Fox to work for Andross for money. Pigma does have some pretty deep, and surprisingly hidden development. I believe a Smash trophy (all regions) lists him as being a mechanic with few moral restrictions. I actually haven't dug too deep into most of the Japanese sources, due to not speaking the language, and not being able to find them and/or translations. However, it is one of the two languages I'm in the process of learning. Pigma is one of the only deadzones I have in my understanding of series lore.
