Spoiler

Han dying was no surprise to me. I was expecting it. Harrison Ford begged George Lucas to kill Han off in ROTJ. I'm pretty sure Han's death was a prerequisite for Ford agreeing to do the part.

It's a good thing that I didn't care as much about the story as I thought I did, or else I'd be crushed right about now being that I probably won't be able to see the film for a few weeks.

It's a known issue. Activity streams (which Unread Content is) strip-out all HTML. Some kind of fix is coming in 4.1.7, but I do not know what that fix looks like.

SPOILERS! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

I will add more points later, provided I see the movie again.

Spoiler

I had a few problems with the film:

-Rey seemed a bit too much like a Mary Sue to me. She is a master of all technical things, and doesn't need to be trained in any capacity to use the force? I don't think so. And really? She can pilot the Millenium Falcon? Granted, she wasn't great at it, but she knew enough about it, somehow.

-Kylo Ren really didn't need the voice changer, and seemed to only be similar to a whiny teenager with anger issues trying to be like his grandfather.

Spoiler

>Goes to the plot of Episode IV

>CTRL+A, then CTRL+C

>Goes to Microsoft Word, CTRL+V.

>Makes changes to certain things, but keeps the format intact.

I am not going to say that this was the worst thing, as I love Episode IV, and J.J. Abrams employed it well. Plus, people tend to like the same shit over and over, and then complain when something is different. I'm looking at you, Starfox fans...

-Why Finn is able to use a lightsaber as if he had at least trained to use it a little bit, I don't know. I don't like the idea of some random guy just picking up a light saber and using as if he had at least some training with it.

--On to the positives...-----------------------------

There were some positives that counter-acted the above:

-Nice new 'splosion effects. When I imagine Star Wars, I imagine lots of 'splosions in and around space. Also, just good CGI in general when it came to adding physics.

-Likable characters

-I like the concept of old Empire vehicles and weapons being scavenged for parts to exchange for food.

-J.J. Abrams did a good job with making the First Order parallel the Nazis. I am a WWII history buff, so this was like candy for me. Seeing General Hux standing in front of all the Stormtroopers like it was a Nuremberg rally at Zeppelinfeld, along with Nazi-esque massacres of Jedis like on Jakku really made the Star Wars franchise look dark as it was intended.

-Starkiller was cool and efficient.

-I like the interaction between the androids and the other characters. BB-8 is an adorable little android who also holds the missing piece of the map to Luke Skywalker, the rest of the map being held by R2D2. I still love how R2 went to low power after Luke disappeared, and it honestly did surprise me to find out that R2 had the rest of the map. I liked it.

Ya, I found Rey to be a bit of a Mary Sue. She's a pilot, a mechanic, professional scavenger, can use the force well with NO TRAINING WHAT-SO-EVER, and she can also speak a different language. Plus, I just didn't find her to be that likable... ...Finn on the other hand, is a LOT more likable imo.

I quite liked the film. I won't say that its super-duper awesome, it had its moments. But it was enjoyable, it was funny and most of all it really felt like Starwars. Almost made me for a brief period forget seven long painful years of prequel crap.

No cartoon rabbits, no mid-chlorians, no little kids, no "Han Solo is a space pirate who does illegal stuff but won't shoot a bounty hunter in the face because hes a nice guy and would wait to be shot in the face first" type George Lucas Special Edition BS.

Why the actual hell is the entire internet treating Kylo as their precious Sith child?

Just... there's no reason. Sure, he has great hair, BUT HE SHOULD BE THE MOST UNLIKABLE PIECE OF SHIT EVER.

meh, pretty sure we were all supposed to hate Draco Malfoy too, and see how well that turned out

anyway Kylo Ren a glorious deconstruction of the Dark Side, wherein he tried so hard and got so far but in the end it doesn't even matter he wants to be this super untouchable awesome badass but he's wearing dark side pants that are like two or three sizes too big and everyone shows him only that bare minimum amount of respect necessary not to get lightsaber'd, because really, when you stop and think about it, you're just kind of ridiculous, with your big goofy helmet and your silly billowing robes and your lightsaber that is as unfocused, dangerous, unstable, and impractical as you are.

I went and saw the movie with a friend the other week, and I said to him after, "notice how all the members of The First Order had nice hair EXCEPT Kylo Ren?"

Everyone had nice shiny uniforms and combed, cut hair, except for Kylo Ren who had longer, shaggy hair. Almost like Snape, if we want to reference Harry Potter.

While I enjoyed TFA I didn't really find it mind blowing or amazing. A lot of people are all "STAR WARS IS ALIVE AGAIN" and I'm just kinda on the side all "I liked it about as much as the PT", which mind you, I enjoyed the PT quite a good bit. Maybe its just from being a consistant SW fan for much of my life so this doesn't really rattle my world much, but eh. I will say I disliked the shoe-horning of Starkiller base and the overall copycatting of ANH. TFA was playing it too safe. However, Rey and Finn are hella likeable new leads.

Oh yeah this thread.

Oh yeah J.J. got canned because he sucks.

Oh yeah 8 and 9 are going to be rewritten.

So in the first 2 trilogies, we had Anakin and Luke losing a hand.
In this one, we lost Han.
Does that mean someone's losing their D?

So sorry.

While I can appreciate what they tried to do, I'm going to come out and say I didn't like this movie. Too much of what we've seen before, only remade because they thought they could do it better, mostly unlikable characters and a lot of stuff that seemed to be trying a bit too hard to blow our minds. I appreciated some of the comedy though. I giggled a couple of times.
