Your thoughts on the Blue Marine?

The Blue Marine is an interesting case.  It wasn't particularly intuitive, and I really didn't care for its level all that much, but it did add a nice bit of variety to Star Fox's vehicle lineup.  Its inclusion could lead to more fleshed out underwater levels, though the jury is still out on whether that's a good thing or not in my book.

I don't dislike it, however I'm not a big fan. I use it on almost every playthrough, but that's only so I can go to Zoness.

It has torpedoes. INFINITE TORPEDOES. What's not to like?

How many potential places could the Blue Marine be used? So far we have:

Aquas (obviously)
Zoness

Corneria

Fortuna

Sauria (If its not cut out from the canon)

Maybe Venom, if they can protect it from acid seas.

We don't know much about Cerinia or Kew, so maybe them.

I like the Blue Marine. It offered a small but enjoyable change to the gameplay and it has infinite torpedoes. I actually really liked how the level was real dark in places unless it was lit with the torpedoes. Hopefully we'll get something like that in Zero but if we don't, eh. I mean, at least it's in Steel Diver. Though I'll admit I never played Steel Diver so I dunno how grand or not that was.

I got it's sequel, SD: Sub Wars, and I like the Blue Marine. It's far more speedier and fires faster than the other classes, and I continue to feel like I've mastered it, because I seldom saw others using it, and those I did see using it... didn't last too long.

You know speaking of Steel Diver: Sub Wars, I think I'll go play that game, now. :)

The blue marine stage  was really hard to get a gold medal but at least you didnt have to worry about your teammates getting chased around.

I think during command the blue marine became obsolete since the arwings could go under water. I wouldn't mind seeing it in zero as some form of DLC or as an amiibo unlockable. It would be a nice touch & certainly nostalgic.

What if they gave us the option to fly the Blue Marine instead of the Arwing? Space is an ocean....

Well, to be honest, if they're to give us that option, they'd might as well let us take control of a Cornerian Warship, too. I feel like control-wise, it would seem the same, but just with different weapons.

Be awesome, no matter which, though.

According to Miyamoto the Blue Marine is in a warehouse somewhere.

I honestly doubt we'll see it again. It really doesn't do anything that the Arwing can't, and with the transforming vehicles of SF2 now canon, I imagine either the landmaster or the Arwing would get an underwater ability.

What about the gyrowing? It does go through Zoness, so I wonder if it could also transform to let you see what's under Zoness's waters.

That'd be really cool actually. But how does a VTOL go marine?

I only found myself going to Aquas for the Medal. I like the Blue Marine, I think they really should have used it in assault. Imagine if they made multiplayer levels have underwater battles, then maybe. I doubt they will do my favorite vs mode (Assault version with all range mode and jumping into vehicles). I think it'll be like SF64 where you chose your vehicle/pilot from a menu.

Hmm... But could you imagine the difficulty in trying to take out a player using the Marine from an Arwing on Aquas or Zoness? It would be as difficult as real-life submarine hunting.

I guess if they have it where you can only use blue marines against each other, then it could work. Zoness makes you only use arwings so it could be a scenario like that.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just remembered that even tho the blue marine will be missing in the next installment, it did appear as a playable sub in Steel Horizon for the 3ds as DLC. So I guess that makes Star Fox Zero even with us lol
