So Nintendo's first mobile app, Miitomo, released in the US and parts of Europe today. If you aren't already aware, it's, at it's core, a very simplistic social 'game' featuring your Mii.

The gameplay is essentially as follows:

  • You create and dress up a Mii using points that can be acquired for free through the app, or presumably in in-app purchases in the future.
  • You answer a few simple questions e.g. What's your favorite food, what was the last movie you went to etc.
  • Your Mii interacts with your friends' Miis and you get to read their answers, receiving new questions in the process.
  • There's also some simple chance games that can be played to acquire new clothes and items.

There's also a photo mode. You can import your own backgrounds.

You can imagine how that's gone over.

Now, the app has received a lot of praise for being the first time Nintendo has expanded onto mobile (something they should have done long ago), but beyond that, the game is actually really good. A substantial amount of Facebook friends have picked up the app and added me, and we've been basically glued to our phones all day.

Anyways, if you haven't yet signed up, the app is currently a pretty good time and I'd highly recommend it. I suppose this can also somewhat serve as a master thread if anyone's got any shenanigans they want to share.

Orange, at the moment, QR codes only let you create new miis, not make actual friends. For anyone that wants me as a friend, for whatever reason, my twitter is aspacefurry, follow me. Getting friends with Miitomo is seriously inconvenient for those that don't use Facebook and Twitter.

More proof that Nintendo doesn't like online interactivity

And by seriously inconvenient, he means you need to be in the same room as the other person. It checks that shit over GPS, too.

Guess I'm not gonna have any Miitomo friends because I don't use Facebook and I haven't logged into Twitter in years and I don't plan to start now.

No offense, but my Facebook is for staying in touch with the odd asshole I went to highschool with so I can occasionally pop in and laugh at their failed lives while I continue to be successful: thats not exactly where I want my online friends, which are the people I actually like.

So no, not sharing my facebook, nor am I making a twitter for this shit. Guess I don't get Mii friends then.

I have been addicted to Miitomo lately. A thing I noticed was when you type in 'Fox McCloud' for an answer, the Mii makes a mischievous face. It could just be because I typed in 'Fox', and foxes are often portrayed as cunning, but I also typed in 'Star Fox' a couple of times and the Mii acted as normal. I dunno...

Nintendo-- attempting to reimagine social media, yet falling a bit short in the "social" bit. My twitter is @serialsquared, I actually use twitter pretty often!

I wonder if there's a way to friend people using the Nintendo accounts. I don't remember my Nintendo account at all, though, so I'm probably way off chart here.
