Should StarFox feature a historical simulation game?

honestly i'm not sure what would really be so interesting about Corneria's history in particular anyway. the world of Star Fox is paper-thin as it is, but there's scraps of stuff that's way more interesting in it, like whatever is up with Titania.

but then if you have to go to some lazy device like time travel to shoehorn a Star Fox connection back in, well, that's kinda lame, y'know? like how Star Fox Adventures started out as its own game and then had Star Fox crammed in at the last minute.

I was thinking that if it involved time travel it would go along the lines of the 1980 film, "The final countdown"

Or this obscure Japanese sci fi film known as "Sengoku Jieitai" AKA "G I Samurai"

Go the Hideo Kojima route, write a cold war-esqe espionage story around James Mccloud and the creation of the original Star Fox team. Donno who the main enemy would be or the details, but critter eating should be in there.

I mean a historical game set waaaaay before anyone on Corneria went into space

At that point why make it Starfox? Why not make a new IP out of the game?

Have we considered that maybe the alien civilization doesn't follow a human timeline?

it's called "Parallel development". And I'm sure that there are examples where there exist alien civilizations that had a timeline that followed humanity's timeline or something along the lines of that

Oooh, yeah, I'm going to have to disagree with both on that point.

Star Fox has a great story, and it does go quite deep. You just have to be willing to look past the surface.

i agree with this guy

I haven't watched that, and it wasn't what I asked either, but I still haven't gotten an answer. Why? Why would it have to be Star Fox? Seriously it doesn't connect at all to any of the characters in any way (Unless you bring in some time traveling crap, but that is a bad idea on it's own.). Even if you're basing this on a movie idea with "historical simulation" in mind... Why would Star Fox need it? Here, for example, imagine if Disney wrote a similar scenario with Star Wars in mind, how would that make any sense? Nobody enjoys Star Wars for pre-space age history so why would it need that (I don't think beyond the history of the Sith it's even focused on.)?

Give sand enough time and it will swallow things as big as ancient cities. Think about it, man the whole planet is covered in sand, so it'd take a reeeeeally long time to explore every nook and cranny of the desert world (Remember, this planet is pretty big.), and they'd have to call off any excavation when storms happen, which probably happen a lot.

A historical Star Fox strategy game would maybe work as, like, a spinoff cellphone game or something, but it would have to bring something more to the worldbuilding table than just really bland furry recolours of real-world societies. At that point just, like, mod a Civilization game to have fox dudes in it or something because "World War II, but they're animals" doesn't really add anything new or interesting to either the gameplay or lore aspects of the series.

Good point but how should the story be told? should it entirely be set in that period or told from the perspective of the modern day?

How about starting in the modern day but then flashing back to the past?

And probably adding a side-story that involves cerinian offshoots who got stuck on the planet in the past and partially influenced it's development.

If you're a lore oriented kinda guy, then, no doubt, you'll respect the series lore, including the definite European cultural influences. Corneria had knights, not samurai.

Though it would be epic if it did

Look, the European past appears outside of Corneria, meaning it would have been pretty prominent. Clearly, it's a very large part of Cornerian history.

Look, man, if you want a feudal Japanese historical sim, and believe me, I do, too, Lylat isn't the place for it. You'd have to disregard canon for it to make sense. Not to mention, that if this Japanese culture was as widespread as you were proposing, Fox would probably have experience with using a katana, rather than quarterstaves and rapiers.

though Fox would look badass if he wielded a Katana. don't you agree?
