Is Zero Dead?

Im kinda surprised that there's few topics on Zero being made. I mean Zero's been out for a while & its the same old people with few topics on Zero, let alone interesting ones.  It looks like a clear sign that the game barley had any sufficient content to talk about.

Anyways, according to a video game analyst, Zero was not profitable at all & hasn't sold 500,000 worldwide. https://mynintendonews.com/2016/06/02/zhugeex-says-that-star-fox-zero-was-not-profitable-at-all/

I doubt it'll be the last Star Fox game but I do hope Nintendo learns their lesson; Dont force the player to change views with motion controls & having empty/dull all-range levels with a horrible rewarding system doesn't work in 2016 especially if it's going at $60.

If by dead you mean the hype train worn off, then yes.

However I still kinda enjoy the game.  Sure its a far step from perfect but still its a fairly competent new game after a long drought, and I appreciate it for that.

I mean, did we really truly expect this game to be a blockbuster? We should not expect any StarFox game... Ever... At all... To please crowds much beyond the established fanbase. When it comes to StarFox, there are two kinds of people, the few who like it... And everyone else.

yeah, it was an alright game but I meant dead as in the game lost a lot of interest. Usually when a new game comes out from a major studio it's talked about a lot or supported by major you tube channels. Knowing Star Fox has a small fan base, im still surprised Zero didn't explode over here with a lot of topics.

Well, there are some, such as myself, who have not yet played the game. I'm sure there are a few others in the same boat as me here.

Also, I don't ever expect much help from YouTube when it comes to StarFox as many people on the site seem to hate it (Cough, SMOSH, cough, cough...) And we all know how aggressive YouTube fanbases can be. If they're favorite YT personality doesn't like it, you can't expect them to give it a shot.

Foremost, Single Theme Interactive Fandom Forums (STIFFs) are on the economic squeeze.  Unless it is a fleabitten heavyweight fandom that is also has the momentum of some dank attractions (i.e. multiplayer game server, et al), one cannot expect to pull more than an handful of dedicated lurkers for their STIFF. If one desires more content than their STIFF can afford, then they might hop on over to any sub forum/thread/community/chat. In our case, one should find a reasonable amount of posts pertaining to SFZ at such places.

Nope. Zero is great. Nintendo UK are currently holding a competition for it.

Shmibli, your right about not expecting Zero to be a blockbuster hit but I also wasn't expecting Zero to do poorly like Command in its first few weeks. Even tho Adventures & Assault weren't massive hits at least they manged to reach players choice on Gamecube which wasn't a good selling system. So Zero should have done a bit better than adventures since it followed 64's roots in a way.

I'm pretty sure I can chalk that one up to poor marketing. At least where I am there have literally been zero (no pun intended) advertisements for it. Seriously, out of the bajillion game stores I have around me, only one even had a poster for it.

Like I said before, though, I really do think that people either don't know enough about StarFox or write it off because of their YouTubers turning it into a meme.

What action, then, should be taken to get the word out? I have literally no idea besides the casual reference. However, since none of my friends play Nintendo systems because their "uncool" so I doubt me telling them about how much I like it will do anything.

I by no means endorse the "get the word out!" Push. It makes fanbases seem aggressive and I seriously don't want to see my favorite series lose what little pride and support it still has.

I got to Andross on the easy ending and called it quits. I easily lost interest in the game. I love Star Fox and was extremely hyped for this game. I kinda just have it for decoration as I've completed my Star Fox collection.

To be totally fair, a lot of the hype and game conversation was being held on SFO's skype channel. It was super busy for a while!

  • 2 weeks later...

I've ordered the game a second time. Pre-ordered the first print edition from an ebay seller who sent the item overseas with the most waifer thing envelope ever. Suffice to say, both the outer box and inner boxes got damaged. Hopefully the next copy of the special edition will be sent in something stronger.

Once the game comes, I hope to add some of my thoughts on several threads. I hope to play the heck out of the game, assuming I can get over what are supposedly rather daft controls. Well, I'm open for interesting controls as long as they contribute to a unique experience and don't detract from the core gameplay.

Zero really suffered from not having extra content or DLC stuff to improve some things like control option and other issues with the game.  The fact that Nintendo never followed up on something like that probably indicated that the developers didn't have any interest in extending the game's life
