Should StarFox Get Darker?

I agree with Swedguy, the tone of Star Fox is good as it is, its just there needs to be more depth in the storytelling, like the backstory, characters, or just generally how the Star Fox world works. I think a full series in the vein of The Battle Begins would be excillent to explore things the games just can't.

fairly sure there should also be a split screen where every time you shoot down an enemy, you see the enemy ship's pilot's family get the news that they've been killed

that's definitely what Star Fox has been missing

No

 what this franchise needs

steamy Falco/Fox and Krystal /Katt love scenes

Slippy getting his ass kicked

pepper getting overthrown in a coup

Andross nuking a planet

 Peppy going completely senile

ROb smashing the groups jukebox and replacing the music with  'We Built this city' from starship

 Have i left anything out?

I like a focus on stories, though I don't think darker necessarily should be the aim. I was quite happy with what Assault did with its plot, really. I think its important that you not only please old fans, but capture new ones as well, so being fun for a younger audience too should still be an aim in the development of games in this series in my opinion. If SF64 was enjoyed by people in their childhoods, surely Nintendo can make lightning strike twice and grab a new young audience while still pleasing older fans. Its important though that, above all else, if you have an emphasis on story, characters are well developed and the game has much worldbuilding. This makes it easier to get immersed in a game and care about the events going on surrounding these characters. If you're going to have a story oriented game, this HAS to be done or else the whole thing falls flat. Its not as if Star Fox is lacking in things to learn; the games have never been too very story focused. There's a whole system of planets and cultures to learn about, and as far as I'm aware, the cast's backstories aren't extremely fleshed out. There's plenty of room for this sort of stuff.

tbh Assault was a good amount of dark it was just also wildly inconsistant and badly written which made it grating

I don't remember a lot of bad writing in SFAs. All I can think of is Fox telling the Ruffians that him and his team were Star Fox, and the fact that when they went to Sauria (UGH), Corneria got nuked. I also like how Krystal only bothered to tell everyone about the Venomians behind that huge gate when they arrived at Fortuna, right before it opens when they're right in front of it. How useful.

I also can't think of any inconsistency.

Starfox Assault's tone repeatedly changed between light hearted and deathly serious, sometimes within the same SCENE, and couldn't seem to make up its mind as to which it wanted to commit with. It wanted to be cheesy adventure heroics and grimsad war drama at the same time and failed at both.

This isn't going into details about individual dialogue, character writing thats inconsistant with the series, and the bazillion plot holes and plot conveniences that are abound.

star fox shouldn't take a darker tone IMO.  THe game by nature is quite light hearted and at moments doesn't take itself too seriously.  Being too dark would cause a shadow the hedgehog or sonic 06 problem again.
