Rusakov
No responses? I guess putting the presentation before the image made everyone fall asleep.
CrypticQuery
Out of curiosity, what about this rendition is more scientifically plausible?

The illustration is based off of an idea in Peter Watt's Firefall novels. He goes into detail about how the tales from folklore would be inspired by a hominid (human-ish) species that preyed on humans.

Because that version basically blends the lines of werewolf and Nosferatu, meaning they are more or less one and the same. So accurate vampires is sketchy at best. Here's a fictional presentation on the idea: http://www.rifters.com/blindsight/vampires.htm

Now that I've had some time to think, here's a fuller explanation from me. The premise that Watts works from is that vampires were an extinct homnid (human relative) that preyed on our species. The fantasy vampires have certain traits that were exaggerated from what they actually had. The "no reflections" legend came from the vampire's quietness and use of crypsis. They would go into hibernation for a long time between feedings so they wouldn't kill off their food source. They eat human flesh to procure a chemical that their bodies can't produce. The idea of crucifixes killing them came from a miswiring in their brains that caused fatal seizures when looking at right angles. So... yeah. These are illustrations of a vampire character in his novel called Jukka Sarasti.
