Any Doom players here?

I'm sure a number of you are familiar with or at least heard of Doom...so I was curious if anyone here has played or still plays Doom? I played it first back in 1997 through the shareware episode (Knee-Deep In The Dead) and I've had fun with it ever since. There was a long gap throughout the 2000's when I didn't play Doom but I got back into it around late 2009 and that was when I learned that there is a community for the game that is not only still active but continually putting out new content even up to this day.

Concerning the original games though I think Doom II is still my favorite - although in the following years I'd played Final Doom for the first time and learned how amazingly designed it was, so I'd likely add that as a strong contender for my favorite alongside Doom II.

There's also that new Doom game that came out this year - but honestly I know very little about it and I haven't bothered with it due to lack of interest...but by all means feel free to discuss that here as well if you like. :p

Also tbh, aside from Doom itself I also made this thread because I wasn't sure if creating a thread for this under Star Fox fan art was necessary or even the right place for it, but I wanted to share a player skin I made for the original Doom games of Wolf O'Donnell if anyone was interested here.

I was inspired to make this since Wolf didn't make it back into Smash Bros., which was disappointing but not entirely surprising. I was planning on getting his color palette correct with Doom but after some time has passed I decided to move on and consider this a finished work.

I have Doom 64, and sadly, that's as far as my history with Doom has ever got, so far. There are so many mods for the original though, that I just wish I could try out, like this one!

Know what we need, next? Doom set on a Titanian research lab, with undead scientists, and wicked Titanian mutants galore, with a lone Cornerian Soldier as the protaganist. Your job can be simpified with just two words:

Further context with my idea. :) Also, punctuation.

Original Doom is super good; especially with the recent Brutal Doom mod out. My favorite of the series probably has to be Doom II, though to be entirely honest that's followed closely by Doom 3 with a co-op mod. Me and a few buddies had a complete blast playing through that game a few years ago. I need to pick up the reboot, but from what I've seen the single player looks really good, despite the Call-of-Halo multiplayer. Snapmap is also pretty interesting though I haven't followed it closely enough to see what people have done with it.

Your skin looks pretty hype though! I might have to load it and give it a run :)

The new DOOM is insanely good. Play it on the hardest difficulty available at the start and enjoy an incredibly difficult, but also very fair ride. And what I mean by that is enemies do insane amounts of damage and if you stop you're dead BUT every attack enemies can do is avoidable so you can be untouched as long as you are paying attention and quick enough.

The story is also pretty good, imo. You are the original DOOM Marine, and long ago the demons scarred your soul so you're forever banned from Heaven, so you began to take your revenge on Hell by slaughtering demons and became a demon to the demons, something they truly feared for your vengeance could not be sated and your cruelty knew no bounds. In a desperation move they lured you into a grand temple them collapsed the entire thing on you in the hopes that it would incapacitate you long enough from them to seal you away in a special sarcophagus, which it did and they did, with the hopes and prayers that you would never again be released upon them. Fast forward a long time and humanity is tapping into Hell to deal with the energy crisis and the man in charge found the legends, and you, and took you in case shit ever hit the fan, which it of course does, so he has you woken up. You proceed to then immediately return to slaying the demons and that's all I can say without spoiling stuff but I enjoyed how they presented you as the Demon to demons and just the character of General Hayden, one of the characters in it. Found him to be quite well done.

I also like playing over on ZDaemon occasionally; I'd say Alien Vendetta is one of my favorite survival/co-op WADs that I like to play. I feel I can appreciate most new maps better over ZDaemon when I'm running around with a few other people having fun.

Also, I have to say Doom is one of the easier games to mod for; it's been a lot of fun these past years making new maps and playing around with textures and such to make things more interesting. It's a hobby I like returning to occasionally.
