JOURNALIST MINIHACK: Star Fox Remaster, Anyone?

Remember Star Fox Assault? The 2005 GCN game whose goal was to return Star Fox to their former glory, but ultimately could not accomplish?

Imagine if that game got remastered using today's technology.

Take this wonderful video showcasing Fox McCloud in Unreal Engine 4, for example:

Just looking at the thumbnail, we could already see one of Star Fox Assault's significant issues being thrown out the window, which are the graphics, obviously. All we would have to do then is take this setting, and then do the following:

  1. Replace the Smash models with Assault models instead.
  2. Create the necessary HUD information, such as the classic Assault reticle.
  3. Map the controls to fit the new engine, while still staying true to the controls of the original (Dual Stick, that is. Not the Basic Controls.)
  4. Create maps based on anything and perhaps everything from Star Fox Assault, with Namco Bandai's permission, of course.
  5. Make sure it's well animated by today's standards,
  6. and the sound quality is top notch.

Do all this, and suddenly, Star Fox Assault could be looked at as finally accomplishing the goal that it set over a decade ago, as of this writing.

What do you guys think of this idea? Anything you'd like to see if Star Fox Assault were to get remastered?

The animations in the posted demo are hilariously janky looking, but I get the idea.  I'd love to see a fan project or something of the sort with some production value behind in, seeing as Nintendo can't seem to decide what they'd like to do with the series.

If Nintendo could make another game in general, minus some random peripheral gimmick, that would be nice.

That's why I think a remaster would do very nicely. At the very least, it doesn't require a gimmick to be successful. It just needs to fix the issues of the original.

I see what you mean. Honestly Zero was a step in the right direction, loved the arwing segments so hopefully that will be the bar for the series, the ground missions in Zero and SF2 worked so the remaster could draw from that. I would also rebalance the weapons since to make the weapons that aren't the machine gun and the missile launcher worth using. Assault's story could use some fixing as well.

Nah, I prefer the new star fox game(With this graphic maybe?)with improvement version of the ground gameplay of Assault, But I don't mind Assault is getting a re-released into Wii u and/Or the Nintendo switch.

Oh no, it hasn't been announced yet. And most likely, development would move to the Switch, by this point, if it were. Only the Switch is rumoured to support Unreal Engine 4.

I not saying they announced and working on it yet, I just saying It been great If Nintendo release Star Fox Assault for the Switch(Which if probably never happen but let hoped)

But it would be better if Nintendo announced a new star fox game with a new story.

I see what you trying to do there, but especially at times like these, the best answer is no. The series is already "beaten up" enough for Nintendo to insist in playing around with it. They should use what they know they work, not simple guesses. From my perception, Assault had a mixed reception, and although remastering is a good idea, making a fresh new game with all characters, or a subseries for Kit/Yaru, Starwolf, and (best bet on my list) Krystal (no Slippy) could also be something to consider, as long as they don't go too crazy on it, don't put projects in wrong hands, or waste too much money one it, could be the best choice for the moment. When the time comes that there are more fans, both new and returning, they could consider a remaster (Hey! The series will be 25 in 2018. Just sayin'!). For now, safest bet is time and good strategies on Nintendo's part.

... Sora Ltd? They developed Kid Icarus: Uprising, an infamous and highly praised 3DS Rail/3rd Person Shooter released a year after Star Fox 64 3D.

^Yes, but don't forget 1-UP/Brownie Brown (MOTHER 3 and Captain Toad), we need a developer that is experienced in seeing both the big picture of a series, as well as the smaller details. And, of course, our beloved Q-Games!

that why I believe Assault Unlikey never has remaster on NX because of that(And it selling a bit lower then SFA), and I agree that a new game with all the characters in the game is a better idea (Also Consider that they never make a remaster because last 2 games is SF1 remakes/Reboot) Hopefully it takes place after Zero/SF64, Even though I like Assault, I did not like that Pigma and Andrew got kicked out of star wolf which make the 3 man crew(Wolf,Leon, and Panther) outnumbed, Yes, Pigma got too greedy and Andrew is too busy tries to follow Andross's footstep but I rather have them on star wolf, But keep Panther too(and also I hoped that Algy is also in star wolf in the next game but possibility not), Oh yeah, also hoped that the next games has some new planets to discover.

Zero is the "one we wanna forget". In fact, it's impact was much worse than Command's, it's like ripping away what we love and cherish most about Starfox, and replacing is with useless garbage. The more we can hide it, the merrier. Take Command's example: it wasn't that bad, and Nintendo was able to kind of "rip it" out of the time line.

There is an image for that floating around the Web... It is called "Fox is ZEUS, Krystal is the GODDESS, Starwolf are TITANS, and even Yaru, the abandoned one, is a DEMIGOD" (No, it's not actually called that... Y'all get my point.). So.... NO.

Wow there, I did not even mention Command, Command is bad but not that bad, And I know they even called Command "Non Canon" But Personally I like Zero more then Command, Even through Zero is a "Reimagining"of star fox 64( better then Command's Fanfic storyline) and the Motion control Blacklash,But How About like the next game can just be Post 64 reboot with venom still a planet(Just Drop Adventure's, Assault's and Zero's story Lines)But I am OK if the next game takes place after star fox Assault, Now if Wolf find a Fourth member and Krystal is more then a cardboard love interest.

But yet again despite Command called Non Canon, They remake/Rehash Sf1/64 twice after that,Did they just out of idea for the new story or they tried to cash in on nostalgia? So maybe that why I think a Sequel to Zero or 64 is good Idea, Just let the writers refresh their mind.
