I think HP because, I haven't had a problem with them so far. I know, that's a pathetic excuse....

Come to think of it, aren't compaq and HP joint companies? If so, I think I need to fix the poll.

I would say Dell, they make cheap, good and time lasting comps.

Sony comps are great, but they are hell expensive, the laptops are really neat, small and powerful, also sony usually includes many extra programs, more than any other company.

From my own experience, HP sucks <.<, my sister has had like 3 different HP laptops, the main problem I see on them is, the screen tends to fail, I guess, these ones are not trully designed for traveling and such.

Another good company is Toshiba, they make HELL powerful comps, I remember 2 years ago when I saw a laptop from toshiba...sheesh that thing had like 300 gb of HD, 1.5gb of ram,  hell powerful pentium 4, and freaking 256mb as GPU and it was freaking SMALL . But their main problem I guess, is the quantity of stuff they made, making their products a little bit more expensive. I dunno how well they are doing right now

and....apple, well for my own experience with mac comps, I'm not so used with the design and all, but they really neat.

Oh, sh*t.....I forgot about Apple.....>.>;

Hold on folks.

EDIT: Okay fixed. Ironically, my experiences are the inverse of yours Steve, HP is no problem but Toshiba was a pain in the Bee-You-Tee-tee. I had an instance where the computer overheated and shut down numerous amount of times.

I'd much rather buy the parts and assemble the computer myself. Premade jobs have way too much extra, unnecessary crap on them. I'm still cleaning that stuff off of mine, and it's been seven years since I first got what's still on the HD. o.o

Meh... OEMs suck. I build.

Building a PC takes about an hour tops. Depends on the case. I can usually do it in 20-40 minutes.

Installing the OS usually takes longer.

You still get warranties. Each part is warranted instead of the whole box. Not that it matters, as usually it is only one part that goes anyways. Besides, the OEMs use the same companies for parts that you do.
