Wolf O'Donnell - too similar to be different, or too different to be similar?

Yay a Wolf topic from me!

*cough*

Anyway, do you really think that Wolf O'Donnell is more than just "Fox's clone" for a rival? His personality, it stands out (especially the oh so yaoi-dreamy-Assault) and quite different from goody Fox.

His looks is quite different too - different color, edgier and rougher look, mohawk extending up to the back of his neck as opposed to Fox's mohawk which lasts only up to the top of his hair, and his build and size.

Now here's my thought - where are people getting the idea that he is identical to Fox?

They look alot alike. But that's because the game desingers are lazy. :P

And they are simmilar in alot of ways: They're both good pilots, they're both canids, and they're both captains of their team.

And it's not a mohawk, it's just a strip of white fluff. :P

Meh, Wolf may look close to Fox and have similarities, but... He's not even CLOSE to being identical to Fox. Besides, Wolf's persona is waaay different. But, who knows? I sure don't.  :ok:

Yeah I agree.

But then people keep saying he's a clone of Fox X3

Wolf seems more of a "Let's get the job done" type of guy, Fox is more of the type of person that tries to think things through.

We need more games and character development to judge this better.

Yes, like the rivalry dammit! Don't let him waste in the stereotype that is Red/Blue/Gary.

Anyway, at least we all know that he isn't totally against Fox.

I think that he may be seen as the clone of fox in the ways that they are both opposite in some ways. But ya, they do have some common values, but I'm still not going to say he's a clone of fox, he's entirely different. And thats how it should be.

Anyway, Wolf looks cooler.  <-----you need a grey one. XP  :P

But Wolf isn't old... like Peppy that is. XD

Besides, we need somebody who is slightly older than Fox, but not an elder, to guide the little kit.

Of course, I think he's only a year or so older...any older and ya, boring. Anyway, Peppy takes that role.

:P Wolf-sama may be like, about... 36?  :wolf: I think, but he's too awesome to give an age, anyway.

Wolf is definitely NOT Fox or a clone. I mean, wake up, people. If you've played any StarFox game at all, you'd see the differences. If you haven't, then why are you even here?

Go tell that to those other Nintendo players.

Heck, even furries know how to tell which is Wolf and which is Fox!

Anyway, Wolf is only one year older. It is official.

Yeah, if they dwell more in Wolf's character (It'll be nice if it was all of SW's) and focus more on the rivarly, fans wouldn't be so quick to compare the two. Like it was mentioned before, there are quite the few similarities between Fox and Wolf but they don't stress the differences. I guess they leave that up to us to decide. Lazy developers.... :D

I agree ^ ^

Though, I want more backstory. I don't want another rivalry fight.

He is like Vegeta and Pikolo from DBZ (I dont know how you write that, am talking about Vegeta, Pikolo, whatever, you understand). Wolf is the bad guy that works on his own with a very peculiar way of doing things, that for some reason is also there to be good because he understands that he need, use or think he is using the good guy to save his own life but wants everyone to be safe.

Off topic: He is supposed to be like all nemesis, faster, stronger... better in everything that the hero can do and the best in many other things, but for some reason the good guy can beat him. The reason for that is to make the hero look better. Has anyone noticed that nemesis are older than the heroes?

Well... if Fox has no hero shield, and by all means he can pwn him.

Sorry Wolfox, but I have to say this:

People don't just like Fox because 'he's the hero'. People like him for his character. Not just because he's the hero. Plus I think that Wolf and Fox are very equally matched, so he sports a challenge to Fox just as much as Fox is a challenge to him.

:hehe:

I don't know about that. I think Wolf holds back when it comes to challenging Fox. If he (well not just Wolf all of SW) were to pilot with his full potential, Star Wolf could easily clobber Star Fox. And if Nintendo were to let that happen, future SF games would have a greater chance of being screwed for the most part. (Due to lack of the protagonist. X_x)

:hehe:

Now, that I think about it, ever since Wolf has become more helpful, I can almost see why people would compare the two. Almost folks, BIG emphasis on almost.

Ok, here's my two cents.  First of all, Wolf is definitely not a clone of Fox.  He's bigger, faster, stronger, tougher, older....you get the picture.  As far as his position on the ethical scale goes, I still consider him a villain, but he's moving closer and closer to the role of an antihero with progressing games, as he does assist Fox in missions from time to time.

Now, when it comes to the rivalry, this conflict doesn't materialize with size, strength, and speed; it appears in flight.  As seen from the days of 64, all instances of conflict between Wolf and Fox occur in an aerial dogfight, from the two instances in 64, to the instance in Assault, to the ones in Command.  All other aspects of the rivalry are just speculation from fans.  Besides, we've yet to see them both in a canonical hand-to-hand fight.

Agree.

And Assault gives me the best thing of anything involving the two.

I'd pay lots of money if I were able to influence Nintendo to include a hand-to-hand brawl between Wolf and Fox in a later game...too bad I don't have much money...
