DZComposer
I want to dip a toe into a chat for SFO. Likely a scheduled one that is closed at other times to keep spam and chaos to a minimum. I want to keep the chat independent of the forums and site for security reasons. Of course IRC is an option, but I do not know how get an IRC channel. There are a few php options and java options as well. What do you guys think?
TakeWalker
Speaking entirely personally, scheduling isn't a good idea. We do have members all over the world, and even those of us in the same time zone don't keep the same schedules. 24-hr chats tend to be dead most of the time, but they also tend to spawn random conversations. I'm all for IRC, I've seen it before with message board chatrooms. I'm not on much myself anymore, but anytime I was on my normal IRC channels, I'd be in the SFO one too. I'm not sure how you get an IRC channel normally. I do know that, if no one else has registered a channel name and you join a channel with said name, you will become the owner of the channel. And, on Anthrochat at least, I think, you need to provide the ops with an e-mail address or something to finalize it. I dunno, you'd have to connect up to the server you want and find out. DZComposer
I don't know which server to use. I was thinking maybe we could put one on EFnet. Every IRC client has EFnet by default. I would only use scheduling if it were not an IRC solution. I just don't want spambots to attack a php-based channel. I'm sure EFnet cracks down on spam, and plus I think users could be banned from channels.

Mr. Krystal
Because of schoolwork, I won't be able to moderate any kind of chat for any significant amount of time, but otherwise, if you need any help, let me know.
DZComposer
I was thinking of giving all admins and full mods ops.
