Guest Pyre Vulpimorph
I know there are already topics for ideas on a Wii Star Fox game. But I would like ideas on a prequel game that features Fox McCloud's father, James. I would like this game(s) to have story-telling as a key feature. The storyline should be substantial, not sprinkled on between missions. (wouldn't we all). Actually, I would like Origins to unfold a bit like the Xenosaga games did. *is shot* Ok, I'm NOT asking for a Star Fox version of Xenosaga. Or for 30-minute long cut-scenes. I just want the story-telling to be the main focus. *is shot at again, but does a barrel-roll* Ugh, nevermind. ----------------------- I think a "Star Fox: Origins" game should begin with James McCloud and Peppy Hare as loyal members of the Cornerian Army. Say James is a lieutenant and Peppy is a sergeant aboard a CDF destroyer, and are well known for pirate-hunting from the cockpit of their starfighters. Then, just when their about to catch the biggest crime boss in the Lylat System, orders from above bungle everything. Frustrated with military politics and an incompetent leadership, both James and Peppy resign their positions and form a two-man mercenary team (not yet called star fox) The story should revolve around fighting pirates and outlaws, getting new team members, James McCloud getting married to Vixy Reynard, and interactions between the Cornerian Army, Space Dynamics Co., Beltino Toad and a still-sane Andross, not-yet-General Pepper, and between the individual Star Fox team members. Who should be the members of this Star Fox team? James, Peppy, and Pigma, of course, but who else? Since Miyu Lynx and Faye Spaniel are probably never going to be revealed in a "current generation" star fox game, I vote to make them legitament members of the Old Team. I want 50-60% of all mission time to be in a fighter craft, whether CDF design or Beltino's SFX Arwing Prototype-One. I also would like about 30% on foot/land vehicle and about 5-10% underwater. Seriously, I don't know why so many people despise the thought of on-foot mission time. ------------------- Anyways, these are my thoughts, and I would like yours. Four-eyed Vulpine
Seriously, I don't know why so many people despise the thought of on-foot mission time. I don't know why, either. I mean, you can't fly a plane without expecting to land, can you? So, I see that this thread revolves more around the plot than the gameplay of the next possible game. It's about time. I like these ideas a lot, but I'm not sure about Fay and Miyu's roles on the original team. I guess it could work, though; neither of them have official identities yet. Ok, I'm NOT asking for a Star Fox version of Xenosaga. Or for 30-minute long cut-scenes. Aww, but I like cutscenes! *brick'd*
Guest Pyre Vulpimorph
So, I see that this thread revolves more around the plot than the gameplay of the next possible game. It's about time. Yeah, plot ideas are what I'm mainly after, though gameplay issues are welcome, of course. But I want ideas on story.
Mr. Krystal
Seriously, I don't know why so many people despise the thought of on-foot mission time. I think the main reason is that the people who work on Star Fox games do flight fighting gameplay VERY well, but they do on-foot missions, well averagely. If they could make ground missions really good, go for it. I wouldn't mind an origins game, but I doubt Miyu or Faye would be in it.
Four-eyed Vulpine
Now I really like the thought of a younger General Pepper, though. He deserves a fresher look; the latter games in the series kept taking his look away with age, of course. So what rank would Pepper be in that time? Sargeant? Guest Pyre Vulpimorph
Hmmmm.... Sergeant Pepper? ... Isn't that a Beatles song? AHEM, I think he should be closer to a Major or Colonel or something. He has to be *General* Pepper by the time Dr. Andross goes mad. I really like how Pepper was rendered in the SF: Adventures booklet. He looked pretty young-ish there. Four-eyed Vulpine
Sergeant Pepper? Isn't that a Beatles song? That's funny. But I was referring to the original Star Fox comics around when the first Star Fox was released. Something about when General Pepper stated that he was only a Sargeant back when Fox was young or something.
Guest Pyre Vulpimorph
http://arwinglanding.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=1&pos=5 Yeah, Fox perhaps last remembered Pepper as a sergeant. Or maybe Fox was just bad-mouthing Pepper for personal reasons.
Four-eyed Vulpine
So, if Andross is going to start off on the Cornerian side in the beginning of the game, then what faction do you think would be antagonist at first? Are the Venomians still the bad guys, even before the exile of Andross?
Guest Pyre Vulpimorph
I figured Venom was something of a prison-planet, holding extreme bad guys whom the judicial system decided not to execute. No, I don't feel Venom should be much of a focus before Andross goes "ape". Like I said above, James McCloud would probably start out as a pirate-hunter, chasing down crime lords who are trying to create their own state-within-a-state. But I see how, for the player, that can get old fast. I'm not exactly sure who the main "bad guys" should be. Perhaps an alien invasion? We saw that with the Aparoid menace, coming from outside the Lylat system. Maybe your standard galaxy-gobbling expansionist empire, with Lylat standing in its way? Four-eyed Vulpine
So, just the generic evil faction against the Lylat System before the rise of Andross. Sounds good. I think something to do with lizards or monkeys would be most appropriate for that, unless you had something else in mind. Would a slight backward step in technology--given the time of the setting before the main series--be appropriate, or not? Of course, it would probably be hard to pick up on, as the technology of making video games increases in reality.
Guest Chiro-Chan
It's a good idea but... PLEASE use some other name besides 'Vixy Reynard'. Words cannot describe how cheesy that sounds. *eyetwitch*
Four-eyed Vulpine
But aren't James and Vixy married? Wouldn't it be Vixy McCloud?
Aleks55
If they do make a game with the original starfox team. How do you think your teammates will call for help or die. Like when Pigma gets shot down he would say "I should still get paid for this"

Or Slippy Toad. But aren't James and Vixy married? Wouldn't it be Vixy McCloud? Vixy Reynard McCloud. Reynard is her maided name (I suppose) Call for help? Or Peppy Hare. Or Slippy Toad. You know, it's almost nigh impossible to find a name in the Star Fox universe that's NOT related to the characteristics of the character. James is one of the few. General Pepper's another one, I think.

I think something to do with lizards or monkeys would be most appropriate for that, unless you had something else in mind. If the plot would revolve mostly around space pirates and some other galactic empire (not Venom), then the species ratio should probably be close to that of Lylat Canids> Felids> Avians> Reptiles> Amphibians> Homonids> Other Of course, the ratio need not match Lylat with any exactness. Perhaps the Cats, and not the Dogs, are the dominant specie of the invaders? Would a slight backward step in technology--given the time of the setting before the main series--be appropriate, or not? Of course, it would probably be hard to pick up on, as the technology of making video games increases in reality. The SFX Arwing Prototype-One should have the same basic functionality as the "modern" Arwings: barrel-roll, somersault, U-turn, etc. It should probably LOOK like the SNES Arwing, or very close anyway. However, whatever spacefighter James McCloud & co. fly before Dr. Beltino Toad invents the Arwing should have only limited functionality, I guess. Plus if we went with the comics name, then JAmes' name would be 'Fox McCloud' Sr.', and since they changed James' name, then they should change Fox's mom's too. I'm really just scanning the comics for material, anyway. Besides, I've already taken the liberty of messing up character names: James McCloud's full name is really James Fox McCloud, Senior Fox McCloud's full name is really James Fox McCloud, Junior See? I combined the comic with SF64! Poor Fox, he'd rather be identified with his middle name than "Junior"!
Guest Chiro-Chan
Er, okay? ... xD But yea, you know. Everyone always uses the name 'Vixy Reynard' (Which is an even bigger pun on animals than any of the other characters (vixen= female fox, reinard=male fox)), and I'd like to see people at least be a little more creative with the idea of Fox's mother. EX: In a 'fic I'm writing, I used the name 'Lily (McCloud) Rivera' instead of 'Vixy (McCloud) Reynard', and she dies in a totally diffrent manner than a car bomb. Meh, don't mind me, I'm just a nitpicker at heart.
Guest Pyre Vulpimorph
I think that there shouln't be any romantic interest between Andross and Fox's mother, anyway. (not that SHE was ever interested in HIM; yuck). I think that element should be omitted from an Origins game entirely.

Everyone always uses the name 'Vixy Reynard' (Which is an even bigger pun on animals than any of the other characters (vixen= female fox, reinard=male fox) What the heck, I did not know that. Well, I knew vixen, but not reinard. Her name suddenly is a little disturbing to me now. They should REALLY change that one.
