Your thoughts: "How did Wolf lose his eye?"

I dunno, I mean, this is sort of an interesting question that was brought up by another friend of mine.I remember there was a pretty popular speculation that he damaged it during battle. But it could be something else. Maybe he had developed a cancerous infection and his eye had to be removed. Or maybe he did something really stupid and poked his eye out completely. Orrrrr maybe he's got a glass eye and doesn't want to admit it.

I don't know, but I just want to hear some other ideas. :D

ORRRRRR, maybe there's nothing wrong with his eye at all, and he thinks that the eyepatch/eyepiece just looks cool.  :D

I don't know how, but I bet it happened after Wolf said, "Hey guys, watch this!" :P

Yes, and he said that before he said "Hold my beer."  :P

GASP, are you suggesting Wolf did something stupid while being drunk?

GASP, we are!  :P

It's a GRAND possibility.

I bet he shot himself with a BB gun,  :P  "You'll shoot your eye out!!"

"You'll shoot your eye out kid."

But I'm guessing either a bar fight, an act of sheer stupidity, and for the sake of my awful Star Wolf 'fic, saving a fancharacter of mine from an explosion. Though I'm leaning towards the first two. Or maybe his eye could be intact still, but look really weird or something. (like maybe be discolored, or have something wrong with it, or have a scar/big gash through it)

Oddly enough, my uncle almost put his eye out by standing up and walking forward. There was a metal bar there that was pointed at his eye, but it was at exactly the correct angle so that he couldn't actually see it. Wolf could have lost it during some kind of maintenance accident.

Edit: He's fine, but he had a nice scare under his eye for a little while.

Considering Star Fox and its makers, I'm going to assume it occurred when he was "ambushed by Cornerian Soldiers as he made his way out of a munitions factory after stealing weapons as part of an evil plan to eventually take over ze verlt!" or some other hard core thing like that.

But the stupidity thing seems to float my boat just as well.

Oooh here's one for stupidity, my dad has this old screw driver that could collapse into the handle, and be held there by a latch. When it was extended, you'd push on the handle to make the end twist and do the "hard" work of screwing in a...well screw. But when you released the latch it would come out quite fast, so I'm imagining something like "Hey! What's this thing?!" *stares and twists latch*

Well, there's the very basic idea of Fox shooting his eye out, thus starting the whole adversary thing.

Another popular theory I've seen (well, it was a few years ago anyways) was that Wolf lost his eye in some accident that also ended a friendship between him and Fox - and most takes on this story end up with Wolf loosing a lot more than his eye.

The two general takes for this one are that Fox and Wolf start out as friends at the Accademy (or whatever the Cornerians happen to call their pilot-training school), and during a freak training accident, Wolf is either injured by Fox by mistake, or, in a freak system failure, Fox inadvertenly crashes a training fighter into an cadet barracks or something that should have been empty, in order to avoid a more catastrophic crash (like into some fuel tanks or something), but it turns out Wolf (and in most variants, a fellow cadet who's Wolf's girl-friend  ) were inside for some reason. As most stories like this go, the girl dies, Wolf and Fox are both badly hurt but survive, Wolf looses and eye, can't get over his loss and blames it all on Fox, and of course, it all goes downhill. Need I go on?

I'm sure Nintendo will never take this approach, as it won't fit in a video game, but it's a great one for fanfic writers - not only does it give the writer more material to cover (three cheers for flashbacks!), but it also helps develop Fox's and Wolf's personalities a lot more than the hardcore approach does - rather then getting a flat, steriotypical villian out of Wolf, it develops a much more rounded character out of him who's simply on the wrong side of things. Much more interesting in my opinion.

That exact same thing happened in a fan fiction called Fox's Race (Good read by the way). Is that your story, or did you just copy that idea? (I'm not accusing you of anything.)

  • 4 weeks later...

Actually, I'm starting to think that Fox wasn't involved in it.  If he was, Wolf would probably be acting a LOT more aggressive toward him in the series, rather than playing the "supportive" role he's been taking lately.

I actually doubt Fox and Wolf knew eachother prior to Star Fox 64. And maybe he crashed his Wolfen when he was in training or something, or maybe even a car wreck.

I never thought Fox had anything to do with it. Like FEV said, I wouldn't get too supportive with someone if they destroyed one of my eyes. I really think that it could be a medical condition. But that's just me and my college major talking. :x

Maybe he did a bad job on a mission way back, and Andross got angry and hit Wolf in that eye with a blast of psychic energy or something.
