Mr. Krystal
Tonight, I'm going to start it a little later. Star Fox Talk for Friday, July 27th will be at... 6 PM Pacific, 7 PM Mountain Time, 8 PM Central, and 9 PM Eastern It will go until Midnight, Central time (at least that's when I'm going to bed). TOPIC: Starfox-Online Redesign Concerns and Suggestions

foxbird22
I'd have to agree with DZ. Meebo is slightly irritating, and I'm not enthusiastic about the random videos that keep playing. However, I do like the IM feature of Meebo, though it's hard to keep up with a fast-paced conversation. I think we could get more functionality out of an IRC, though it's hard to tell without actually doing it. Would it be possible to try an IRC for the Star Fox Talk on Friday? I don't know how long it would take to set one up. No, definitely NOT an anthrochat....baaaad idea....

No, definitely NOT an anthrochat....baaaad idea.... Anyone who wants to volunteer to start an IRC chat, please go ahead, and tell us the details. You CAN prevent the videos from playing you know, just drag the side of the video window right until it disappears.
foxbird22
Didn't know that about the videos. I'll remember that. Alright...so, some good news, and bad news, about the IRC. Bad news: Some IRC clients only work for Windows or only work for Macs, which means that we have to choose one compatible with both. We will have to learn basic commands, which isn't difficult, but some people may not like that. Good news: I found a client that works for Windows and Macs. The IRC I found works in a fashion similiar to Perl (or so I read), so Dwight should easily become familiar with it. Here's the link for the download: http://jirc.hick.org/ Why don't we make the IRC idea the conversation-starter for this Friday's Star Fox Talk? That way we can see if anyone's up for it. DZComposer
There is actually an IRC module for SMF that will run on any machine with a Java VM. That will be there for those that do not want to DL stand-alone clients.

If we do one, it will need to be some kind of Ajax/PHP/Javascript system, no Flash or Java.
foxbird22
Looks like we should probably just forget about the idea. I forecast it being more of a hassle rather than a benefit. Hey Dwight, out of curiosity, what's wrong with a Java VM?

Hey Dwight, out of curiosity, what's wrong with a Java VM? Slow, slows other programs down, and eventually makes the browser crash or become unresponsive because of Java applets' notoriously bad programming. DZComposer
There MAY be a PHP based one for SMF, but I am not sure.

DZComposer
NOTE: New place for SFO chats: #starfox-online at Quakenet. To use it, launch your favorite IRC client and connect to Quakenet. Then join #starfox-online ( /join #starfox-online). I will add a link to a java client on the forums as soon as I get my home internet connection working again. As soon as I can, I will get the channel registered with quakenet so that it will be a permanent channel.
foxbird22
Sorry to hear about your Internet, DZ. Â Â Hope it's up and running again, soon. Maybe this Friday the IRC will go better. Â If we've used it before, and it won't be so hard to use this time, perhaps more people will be able to use it!
PuffNStuff
So..... I have to launch my FAVORITE IRC client.... Like I ever had a favorite, like I ever used it! So where do I get this client?
DZComposer
If you do not want to or do not know how to download, set up, and use an IRC client, I have added one to the forums. Click the "Chat" button on the menu. NOTE: The like 5 of you who are not using the default theme or the SFO theme will not have the button. You can always reach the chat here: http://forums.starfox-online.net/index.php?action=chat For those of you who do use IRC clients: Server: irc.quakenet.org channel: #starfox-online Now, I need three people to at least lurk in the channel in order to register it. No fewer. Any help with that would be appriciated. NOTE: until I get teh channel registered, some of you may get Ops if you join if Dwight or I are not there. If that happens, please give it to us if/when we join. Failure to do so could result in staff action on the forums.
